just my thoughts: clc had everything to succeed, except a good company. they had the talent, the hard work, and released a fair amount of bops. unfortunately, they didn't have the proper funding or promotions, so how were they supposed to afford even the basic necessities? they had to ask other idols for money to get plane tickets and funds for their mvs. they could have succeeded, if only they had a better company.
They are definitely one of the best group ever in Kpop, a whole package.

It is as artistic as Loona predebut songs + dance and vocals were crazy and on point, she mixed different singing techniques and styles + the growl is slowly becoming the SM trademark thanks to Winter.

It's just my opinion but I think you shouldn't judge Seulgi's solo based on Wendy's and Joy's. She isn't releasing a ballad album or a remake one.

for #87 i think that yunjin of lesserafim in the world is my oyster documentary speaking out about the racism she faced as a kid as well as AleXa on eric nam's podcast really is allowing idols to talk about their own issues.
For #50, I think it's important to separate how Soyeon is respected in the Korean industry vs. how international K-pop fans see her. International non-Nevies *hate* her, but from what I've seen from other writers, producers, directors, and the general public, Soyeon is actually one of the most well-respected artists in the industry right now, you'd just never know it from the way international K-pop fans (and especially K-pop Twitter) react to her doing literally anything. Look at how the entirety of international stan Twitter tried to discredit all of her work based on her writing 1 "bad" rap that was, by her own words, fairly basic English to make it easier for the Korean audience to follow.
It just blows my mind how she can have one of the cleanest track records of writing, composing, and producing good music, having the respect of both her juniors and her seniors in the industry, getting praise left and right from the likes of songwriters like Ahn Ye-eun, and international stans will *still* try to rip her to shreds for any little thing that she does.
Definitely agree on the Soojin thing though. As a Neverland, of course I miss her like crazy and think her situation was very poorly handled, but some of the Soojin solo stans are ridiculous. She went on hiatus a year and a half ago, was removed over a year ago, and her contract was terminated 7 months ago; it's time to move on.
Love your answer! I thought it was really intriguing to see the opinions of Soyeon's domestic fanbase. She really deserves a ton of respect considering how much she's contributed to the industry.

@@Cloudkirb Exactly, honestly I think a lot of international K-pop fans' reaction to the rap in Tomboy was 1) based on them not understanding that the rap was made for the Korean audience, not the Western one, so of course there's going to be nuance in it that a Western audience wouldn't understand culturally (e.g. "sometimes we swear without cigarettes"), and 2) only going based on the official broadcast version and not the uncensored CD version (so many people were pitching a fit about "I like to 'ehh' on drinking whiskey" without realizing what she's saying in the full version is "I like sex"). It wasn't a bad rap, but so many people were trying to paint her as a "bad rapper" as though she wasn't called the "Scary Unnie" on Unpretty Rapstar when she was younger than the rest of the contestants on that show, and like she hasn't written so many good raps throughout (G)I-DLE's entire discography and her solo work.
Soobin has the best blue hair of any idol ive ever seen. Like im not even exxagerating i genuinely think this.

The competition is going to be tough but the promotions have been pretty good so far and I have faith in the girls. Although in the latest video dropped on the Mamamoo channel they didn’t provide eng sub immediately so I was a bit disappointed, really hopes that they would change this…

I think that Seulgis solo album will be great because Seulgi is Seulgi, not to be confused with any other member of Red Velvet...
SM has always done a great job of creating solos that suit the individual vibe of each member.
Wendy loves smooth jazz and piano ballads above all else. She freely admits that Light Me Up is her favorite song out of RV's entire discography.
So her solo album perfectly reflected that.
Joy loves Trot music and retro radio songs, so her releasing an album of older cover songs she grew up listening to make perfect sense for her.
If you're not into either of those things, you obviously aren't going to enjoy them as much as people who do.
I'm sure Seulgi's solo will be no different. And from everything I've seen so far, it will suit her perfectly.

They don't mind if the majority doesn't want it; they are creating music for themselves and the people who like that style. I personally find it cool that each member has their own underlying sense of uniqueness. Makes for a better debut for each member.

6. Xiumin’s debut made so much sense to me lol, considering his personality and the solo stages he’s had in the past, but I can definitely see how it must have been kind of shocking? for casual listeners with it deviating so much from the other members solo stuff. I feel like SM has actually done an incredible job at developing each member’s solo musical identity.

SM doesn't really take good effort for wendy and joy solo to be honest like water seems like Taeyeon rejected song and joy solo is mediocre it would be good if they give wendy R&B and for joy something classy or elegant. For selugi the concept and genre seems to be perfect so let's hope for the best.
The last OT4 Mamamoo projects didn’t do really well cause they were mostly songs for the fans. Mumumuch was for their anniversary album, and WAW was a ballad released in the middle of the summer. I’d argue that all of their solos did extremely well actually, given the fact that they were solos, the members do have solid individual fandoms. However Mamamoo+ did fail to make waves and it somehow did worse than the members solos even though two of the members were there….
I really hope that this comeback will attract the attention of many people and that they will snag a win despite the competition being so intense. Right now Mamamoo is a very fandom driven group so I hope that they can regain the attention of the international public!

Exactly! And ten is such a good dancer one of the best in the whole Industrie for me even. But sadly I have the feeling after loocking him away and that weird hiatus situation with way v. That it still really affects the members especially ten bc in super m every one went crazy about teamin and Kai bc they are good dancers but ten often got overlooked. It's maybe an unpopular opinion but I like tens dancing way more than Kai and teamins. 🤷🏼♀️

n° 79 about Oneus is hitting me hard. I'm afraid you're right, they probably have maybe one or two comebacks before Ravn's enlistment. The group will probably managed without him but with Seoho enlistment in 2024, it's gonna be hard. Keonhee is a great vocalist but it's mostly Seoho who is carrying the whole song (title track). I can see that Hwanwoong has been improving greatly in the last 2 or 3 comebacks, their company is probably training him to be more active as a vocalist. Let's just hope they won't have a hiatus and that Tomoons will still be here the next few years until they all completed their army duty 🤞🙏 A BG needs to be really popular and have a strong fanbase in order to survive after enlistment.

With the jype opinion about what they're focusing on (71), nmixx really shocked me. Like their rapping is good, dancing is amazing, but they're best category is vocals with 4 vocalists being main vocal worthy. It shows a sort of change in the jype projectory and it makes me excited.

#30 SOMEBODY SEES IT, like i think that's also a reason why there's so little solo stan wars within carats (as if there's any war at all), bc all the members do get some sort of genuine recognition and have evenly distributed solo projects as well as lines. post 2018, the line distributions and different sub-unit bsides (like flower, light a flame, etc.) really show just how much potential each member has. and im here for it!

I agree with your opinion on NFTs. A someone who has been closely following the gaming indistry and the developments/discourse on NFTs there... Having these things land in kpop is worrying.
NFTs are certainly nasty, but the whole market for them has utterly collapsed since their peak last winter, so I’m not too worried that they’re going to take over *any* industry at this point.
They might still exist in kpop for a while, but I feel like they’re going to turn into nothing more than normal, boring collectibles - the “get-rich-quick” bubble around them has popped imo.
At least I hope I’m right and they don’t come back with a vengeance.

42. I'd argue that their past comebacks weren't impactful considering that all the ot4 music that they released last year was just for 'fans'! Their last proper comeback with promotions was Aya which actually did pretty well and they even performed in on MAMA.
Now, talking about the solos which also did good considering the bare minimum promotion that they get. The clear example here is WheeIn and how her company actually pushed forward with the promotions, which even got her a win (when full fledged solo artist are unable to get one).

I am extremely excited for Mamamoo's comeback. From the teasers it sounds like the title track AND the album is going to be full of bangers, no "b-side sounding" b-sides here. I absolutely think this is their time to shine.
I also honestly feel like their solo releases are doing well for the minimum promotion their company gives them. And although I would love for them to be recognized, I'm mostly just excited about the sheer quality of their solo music lately. Like have you heard moonbyul's shutdown or hwasa's bless U? Some of the best music to come out of kpop recently.

I would like to say that I absolutley hate those "Its Live" channels cause theyre not even singing live, it annoys me so much becuse I just wanna hear them sing (even if it's shaky) but it's prerecorded or there's backing vocals which really dissapoints me- I just wanna hear them sing- like they do it to everyone but like even to stayc, wendy and somi as well (I don't even folloe them but geez), THEY CAN LITERALLY SING SO WELL WHY NOT LET THEM (it makes me honestly this upset cause they literally promote it as its live when its not T-T)

The Hybe family show was so much fun, I agree. I would also love to see more shows like that. TBZ x ATEEZ could probably get pretty chaotic but it would still be fun. The first thing that popped up in my head was a show similar to 'Show me the mwm' but with more than one group, either more RBW groups or other groups. I've been wishing for a Oneus x Onewe season of this since the first season ended but I wonder if it's ever going to happen.
Ailee and Sojung are both great vocalists, but I personally don't think they sound that similar. Or at least it's not something I think about. But now I'm thinking about how my dad said something like "if you made someone listen to this without context, you could probably trick them into thinking this is the original" when referring to Ailee's cover of 'I will always love you". That's kind of off topic but oh well.
People getting mad at idols for smoking has always sounded a bit weird to me, even as someone who can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. Like...many idols probably deal with a lot of stress so it's not that surprising. Do I think it would be better if they didn't smoke? Yes. But I'm not even going to pretend like I can tell idols what to do and what not to do. It's none of my business.
Hating on "older" idols solely because of their age is something I will never understand. Like sure, younger fans might find younger idols more relatable but still. Unless they say or do something inappropriate I really don't see the problem. I honestly wouldn't complain if a group with members who are 60 years or older debuted, it could actually be fun. What's the problem?
It's not like talent disappears with age. Maybe you don't find "older" idols attractive, but in my opinion that's not a reason to hate on them. With that being said, I also think there should be an age limit for debuting as a Kpop idol. I feel like it's never going to happen but oh well.

I just wanna say on that one about wishing idols can be more open about their mental health. The one idol I know who is quite open about it is BangChan of Stray kids and while its great, all it’s done is have people tell him to k word himself and use it against him in stupid fanwars on twt. So i’m not surprised if Idols wouldn’t want to be open about it even if they could be

About opinion 23: I agree so much with that! TWICE, for example, have A LOT of videos of them sneezing and I love it lol. They're my ult group, and it's very normal for me to see them sneezing or doing normal stuff like that, so I always thought it was common for idols to sneeze on camera, but I guess it's not (???)

The Rocket Punch opinion hit me hard. All I can say is that it took them this long to find their sound. They still have hard core fans, myself included. The real problem is that Woolim is being that kind of company. They disappointed me with their lack of care for Lovelyz, and they are becoming Cube 2.0 with respect to their boy groups.

Ten has everything that would make him such a popular idol like he has the talent, the charisma and he is an artist at heart, but he was (and still is) promoted so poorly that his talent can not be recognized. Maybe things can change once Super M picks up again, but that’s hard because he would more lines and with the Lucas situation who knows how long it will take for them to have a comeback. If anything, they should actually debut him as a solo artist instead of just letting his songs live on station. Idk, I have hope for him but it’s hard seeing him go unrecognized when he lives and breathes art.

And I am extremely surprised that you think that Shut Down is Blackpink's best song! I prefer Pretty Savage, Boombayah, Playing with Fire, Kill This Love, Lovesick Girls, See You Later, Pink Venom, As If It's Your Last, Hope Not, See U Later, Forever Young, D4, How You Like That, Love to Hate Me, and Stay over Shut Down! Shut Down is a good song, but I am surprised that people love it SOOO much. I think the instrumental is a bit too repetitive. There's not enough variation within the song for me. It's good, but a little underwhelming and repetitive for my taste. The classical sample is very nice, but I wish they wouldn't have used it throughout the whole song. Using it in the intro, both verses, and the chorus was a bit too much in my opinion. The verses should've had a different sound and then went back to the classical sample in the chorus. That would've made the song better for me. I think this song has the opposite problem that Pink Venom does. Pink Venom has way too many different sound changes, but Shut Down doesn't have enough variation in the sound. Again, this is just my subjective opinion. Shut Down is still a good song!
I do agree that the ageism is horrible. I can't believe there are people who say that being 20 is too old to debut. Not everyone is meant to achieve everything in their 20s. And not everyone has the privilege to be able to do what they want to do in their 20s, sometimes people have to prioritize other things (like making money) and then maybe, once they are in their 30s and have more stability in life, they can focus on doing what they want to do. One of my favorite CZcamsrs is in her 50s and she and her husband are living a happier and more successful life than a lot of 20 year olds! So what's to say that a 25 or 36 year old can't be a successful singer? I want to see more Kpop artists that debut at 25 or older! I want them to prove that it's not too late to do whatever you want to do!
And I agree with what you said about how are some Kpop fans going to deal with things in the real world if they can't handle constructive criticism about their favorite groups. The real world and the world of work is unfortunately very harsh and they need to figure out how to not take things personally and not let what other people say bother them. If they don't figure that out, then it will be hard for them to handle everything they will have to face in life.
I don't like Y2K genre of music and I hope that it doesn't become a trend either! And I agree that Hobgoblin would've made CLC a success if they debuted this year, I love that song so much!! As for the whole people who make mashups aren't music producers thing, that might be true, but some of the fan remixes are better than the original and I think that if you can make a song sound better than the original, then you ARE a music producer, even if you haven't made an original song yet.

I totally agree with the Sunmi's Showterview comment. I recently watched her interview with Ateez and although it was alright, the guys had more chemistry, fun and looked more relaxed with Jessi than her. Sunmi is amazing and charming, yes, but I genuinely think that there's something in Jessi that helps people feel free, safe and comfortable around her, and that's why her show was so cool. I don't really watch either Showterview, but Jessi's had more impact and iconic moments and I miss her a lot.
I always worry that opinion vids on kpop yt, the opinions will bash certain idols or groups (namely Stray Kids and other "hated" groups), so this video was genuinely a breath of fresh air
#95 the way I smiled when I saw SHINee haha i feel like i've never seen that channel ever mention them so I was surprised to see the background lol. but yeah, older idols having opened some doors doesn't mean the whole system on which kpop is based has changed. Pop music (so, kpop too) is fresh, marketable, and often catered to younger audiences, so companies and labels will always prefer having younger and fresher faces to sell said music, and that no matter how many older acts manage to achieve longevity or set new standards for themselves.
That said, seeing this video has been pretty funny for me because, as a 2nd gen kpop enthusiast, a lot of those things mentioned are stuff I stopped caring about so long ago. I also don't know or care about so many of the groups featured here, so this makes my experience watching this even more amusing, somehow.
