    Thanks for this! My old 80 gb fat PS3 has been having issues ejecting discs, and I used your video to help open it up and clean off the rubber wheels. There were a few differences between the models:
    * Removing the top half of the case, there was only one plastic latch (on the back right side). This has an opening above it to reach down and release it - no spudger required. The top then hinges at the front and comes right off.
    * The disc drive is missing that little circuit board above it and has a full shield around it. It also has plastic clips holding the top portion on instead of the three back screws.
    These are minor, but I thought they were worth mentioning for anyone else who has an 80 gb model. Thanks again!

    Great stuff Mark. Step by step concise information! Took me a while to figure out the right way round a PS3 drive on my own. It's out there now, thanks to you! Keep up the good work mate :-)

  • @MarkFixesStuff
    @MarkFixesStuff  Před 10 lety +3

    If you look on the video at 16:38 you will notice that the "top hat) round piece is in fact jammed in this example. It's jammed under the left arm, (as you look at the drive from the front.
    The mechanism must be reset as in the video by taking the top of the drive off and then you will be able to put the top hat in the middle as show at 27:20 - as the arms will have separated.
    Don't forget to reset the long slide gear inside the drive ALL the way off of the teeth after you have removed the top cover, or the drive will not reset!!! The full process for resetting the mech starts at 20:10
    Hope this helps!

      @ALitleBitSpecial Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks! You should expected to see my response video soon, it's entitled "Guy turns his PS3 into a pile of useless parts"
      So the fix for this problem is always just cleaning? Could some degree of cleaning occur without disassembly of the system if there's no stuck disc (Kinda thinking along the lines of maybe just sticking something inside the drive?)

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  Před 7 lety

      ALitleBitSpecial Not really, as the rubber drive wheels are the problem. They get dirty and shiny and lose their grip. You can't get to them without taking the drive apart. If you go slowly you'll OK with reassembly. Take care to position the gears exactly as shown in the video though... that's the key.

    Mark, you are the MAN! I could not get the eject back to the home position, what I was not doing was pushing the right hand side all the way back so that the gear was off the runner. that is by far the best tip in this video, and I thank you so very much. I should have come to CZcams sooner!

  • @mikekraus5972
    @mikekraus5972 Před 9 lety

    excellent video mark... now, you got the disk out... how do you prevent it from that happening again? do the drive motors go bad that assist the disk? or would just the lithium grease help stop that problem? my PS3 (80gig) just started to have a "slow eject" problem, and for the first time since i bought it new, i had the disk jam.. i shut off my system and did the "multiple button pushing trick" and that did work.. but what is to say that it wont happen again? how do i make sure this will never happen again? and thank you very much mate, have a pint on me! mike

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  Před 9 lety

      The grease will help stop it from reoccurring mike kraus. Slowness or failing to eject can be caused by the surface of the four black "pulling" wheels (at the front of the drive) becoming shiny and/or dirty. You should clean them with some window cleaner like Mr Muscle (or Windex in the USA) and this will allow them to grip the discs again.

    Mark, I need your help, once you take the top of you see the inside of the disk drive and you have the two gray clips on the left and the right, I turned my upside down and one dropped off do they just pop back on?
    Mine just takes the disk but doesn't eject, I haven't tried this video yet, but the on the motherboard the little plastic clamp the holds the ribbon cable in place snapped any ideas how I can fix it or what I can to to hold it in place? Thanks

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  Před 9 lety +1

      - Yes they pop back on and make sure you do the "drive position reset" proceedure as shown. also make sure you clean the four wheels so they can grip the disc to eject.
      The socket might be a bit of a problem if you snapped the hinge. I's try a bit of blutack to hold it in place, but the cable might not be gripped without that leverage :(

    Hello mate, probably a long shot but have you ever experienced getting the disc out, putting it back together, inserting the disc and it still won’t come out after? I’ve done everything I’ve seen to do online and it’s driving me nuts, done it twice now and both times just won’t eject disc again and also isn’t reading the discs, possibly need a whole new disc drive you reckon?

    • @MarkFixesStuff
      @MarkFixesStuff  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah.. at that point I’d find a junker and switch the drive. Loads of dead consoles out there where the GPU solder has failed now. Just make sure you swap the old disk drive circuit board onto the replacement.

    My ps3's disc drive works. It is a cech-L. Problem is, when I put the silver bezel with ps logo on the frame, the disc won't eject, but when I take it off, it works fine. What the hell is wrong? I tried fiddling with the metal tabs underneath the bluray drive so that the alignment of the disc drive and plastic might line up better so the disc doesn't get stuck. Fixable?

At that time it was working perfectly fine but yesterday i got it out to play and it was not ejecting the disc. The game plays fine but during ejecting it sometimes ejects and sometimes the disc gets inserted back automatically. after a couple of tries, it finally did eject. The only problem i am facing is that sometimes it ejects after 4 or 5 trys, sometimes no response and sometimes it gets inserted back. What could be the problem and how do i fix it?
