The model I purchased is the KEM-410ACA KES-410A

Just followed this instructions and got my ps3 working again!!! For those watching, you don't need to pull out your hard drive or the power supply. It's really easy without those being done. Also a T8 didn't work for me for the security screw in the beginning. You need more like a T9 or T10 to get that one out.
It's a security T10 I think.

Thanks for the video, clears it up for me. Now I have to bring the security bits from work and order the drive. So basically they are all the same cheap chinese drive model? Seems like Sony would have used something a little more robust.
My one looks different inside, there's more cables when you take the top off. My version is CECHM03
Swapt and fixed that is cool. PSthree and dirt my movie won't play and the games library is at moment library.
Hi everyone. Revisiting my youth with ps1. Ps2 and 3 bought 2 fat consoles cheap. No pad wires just consoles. 1 working one may not b in ad. 80 gb and 120 gb. So I already had wires pads etc. Anyway 80 g not working, comes on runs quietly pic working but put disk in and won't go in without pushing then got stuck inside. Done the fan thing power off hold eject then came out. So I just kept repeating the process. Took lid off. Bortered in thick dust. Gave Hoover put back and same thing. But eventually a 5p coin came out. Put a knife in could not feel any thing else. So gave up and toyed with the idea of buying a new blue ray drive. So watched lots of tutorials 2 c if I could manage. Yes I thought, opened ps again to find code on daughter board and opening up the blue ray drive found a piece of paper and a hair comb. Put it all back together and it works like a dream. I wish I recorded it to help anyone with same problem but if u are still reading I bet u do to. So bare it in mind if you have children 😁
The only replacement I can find available is a slim.... can I use a slim ps3 disc reader to replace my old Fat ps3 disc reader?
Quick check I have a Ps3 phat Chechl01 model the blu ray drive is a 24 pin if I buy a 24 pin blu ray ribbon cable that is meant for a slim will it work?
I brought a PlayStation 3 that won't except disc won't do nothing wen I try and put it in, I believe there is sopose to be a green disc reader chip just above where the disc goes in if so mine was missing, do they sell those things.
So I disassembled my ps3 disc drive and I have extra spring that I have no idea where it goes I managed to put every other spring in the correct spot except for 1
I live in the UK and are 60gb PS3 is backwards compatible but it's partial where the 60gb PS3 is fully backwards compatible all games are swappable but the Blu-ray films are supposedly not can I swap the disc drive to solve this
When i put in my replacement disc drive it makes a noise that sounds like an error and idk what i did wrong

IV had one for years I wanna fix my son's a teen now and he loves older games me too I'd love to fix it and get it going again. Yeah they exchange ID keys
You must switch the boards anyway , because id keys are individual for all consoles separately .
I own 4 ps3 fat and my main ps3 stop reading disc's and I change the exactly same optical drive from one to another and I know his working but only works in the ps3 that he came don't work in the one I want to fix why?

My PS3 wont power on when I connect the ribbon cable for the Blueray drive. When I disconnect the cable it powers on without issue. Does anyone have any advice?
what if after doing the swap the ps3 still won't take the disc?
I had to replace the drive and swapped out the board because they are not matched to the mother board. Well I put it together and it still didn't take the disk. Installed the other board that came with it and now it works like it should. Issue is that it still won't read it. I am having a hard time finding out how flash the board to work with the mother board.
I got cechc04, its the launch model from EU I wish i knew which disc drives are compatible with this... i think some kid stuck it full of discs.

I replaced the lens and the disc is still not spinning.
you need to replace the optical drive not the lens
I hate useless steps like taking off the power supply and taking out the hard drive
but it will shock you if you don't take out the power supply and even if your sure about it not shocking you its good to take extra steps to guarantee safety

If you're just exchanging the Blu Ray drive, you don't need to take out the power supply. You also don't have to pull out the hard drive.
