That is Brad Delp's real voice (no auto tune, no artificial electronics to stretch his notes). He really can sing that high ( I believe Beato put it at E over high C). Such a loss when he died.

I always thought there was some kind of production effect that allowed the tone/pitch that Delp is reaching. Until seeing the video, I really never appreciated the kind of talent in his voice, because I always thought it was studio effects. I still don't understand how he can transfer through his range so smoothly and powerfully. He's certainly a unique talent.

Guitarist, songwriter, and leader of Boston, Tom Scholz is known as being the M.I.T. graduate who recorded most of their debut album in his basement, using audio equipment he had designed himself. Later, he invented and produced the Scholz Rockman - a portable guitar sound processor with distortion, chorus, and delay settings that you could use with headphones or record , to get a guitar sound like his.

I was 16 years old when this album dropped. Everybody I knew had it blasting out of their cars in the school parking lot. Another album hit around the same time, "Frampton Comes Alive," which is another story in itself. We had a smoking area at school behind the field house... and cigarettes weren't the only thing we were smoking. Boston had a song called "Smoking," and it was. "Rock and Roll Band,,, "We were just another band out of Boston, on the road & trying to make ends meet. playin' all the bars, sleepin' in our cars, and we practiced right on out in the street. No, we didn't make much money; we barely made enough to survive. But when we got up on stage and got ready to play, people came alive." Absolutely! I live in Macon, GA, and during the 70s, every band made the Georgia circuit: Atlanta, Macon & Savannah. Growing old is no picnic, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't trade anything for having grown up with the greatest live music ever. Macon is the birthplace of the Architect of Rock-n-Roll, Little Richard... always copied, without credit, but never surpassed. Y'all might want to react to some of his music. You guys are the BEST reactors, and I truly appreciate you both.

That was a drab era, recession and suburbia. But the music was fantastic. It roved your mind from the hopelessness of the times. That era had tons of party bands and rockers. AC/DC, Foghat, Pat Travers, George Thorogood, Scorpions, Blue Oyster Cult, etc etc... Sabbath and Zeppelin didn't get as much airplay as they deserved, nor did groups like Trapeze and even The Who took back seat to Beatles and Stones. But looking back: That deep recession created the music and a new crop of musicians. They didn't have the internet disease to occupy their hands. Play the instruments, because no internet disorders to steal the hands from practice. Plus mostly rabbit ears TV era, fiddling with an antenna with foil to get 7 or 8 channels, half with some fuzz. Music was fantastic because it was EVERYTHING in so many ways. It maybe was almost over the top. But compared to today? They got phones in classrooms with social media dysfunction and every 3rd kid has a first shooter addiction and guns at home. We never had such nonsense.

Not much I can say that others haven't or will say about this amazing debut album, and the genius of Tom scholz and talent of Bradley Delp RIP.
I will just add that the song hitch a ride is probably my favorite from this record. You guys should definitely check that out It is transcendent

Being that you two are producers, you should check out the history of how this album was created. A fun story that both of you would enjoy.

Tom built his sound equipment from scratch. Not sure anyone will match that since it was also the studio equipment he made his retirement money recording this album on. Internet around now means no musician themselves will do anything like that ever again. Internet access saps that time away. That's why not as many great musicians per Capita today. Not practicing music when holding a phone. Average person uses phone 3+ hours daily. You can be a good musician practicing music 3 hours daily.
