I met Dick Best back in the 90’s. He was the second dauntless dive bomber pilot on the Akagi. What an incredible moment to be in his presence. He spoke like it had happen the day before. His mind was so sharp. At that time he was in his mid 80’s.....
blaine monaco I take it you immediately went to see the movie when it came out?
Wow, what an honor! So few of my heroes from WW2 are still alive. I met the navigator from the B-25 that landed in Russia after the Doolittle raid at an air show 20 years ago. I also got to take a ride on the B-17 Nine O' Nine that day, unforgettable experience. I was saddened by its crashing in Connecticut.
Such an amazing moment
I’m related to someone who survived WWII in the Philippines, they don’t say much about it but I can assume it was bloody
well he took away our empire!!!
@@jarrodyuki7081 Kido Butai was the best...
Akagi, originally designed as Amagi class battlecruiser. But due to Washington naval treaty She was halted and converted into a standart aircraft carrier. The most notable characteristic from her original design is the hull. Same goes to Kaga whence She was also originally designed to be the Tosa class battleship
@Ricky Carletto
For an encore, why don't you explain why the sky is blue and water wet?
@@Venezolano410 Not everyone knows this fact.
@@Venezolano410 Smart ass
Originally the Amagi was slated to be converted to a carrier, and the Akagi was likely to be scrapped. However the Amagi's hull was wrecked due to an earthquake, so they ended up converting the Akagi instead.
@@alanhughes6753 nah you're mixing up akagi and kaga
I like the "downspout" smoke stack. Clever.
Programmers call that a "kludge" - terrible design, actually. If I recall correctly, some of the Japanese carriers had TWO stacks - one for oil burners and one for coal. Egad.
@@Jollyprez didn't the quarters next to the stack suffer from extremely high temperatures?
@@NeekoGood Certainly on the ships I was on. USS Mt Whitney was particularly bad.
I read in many accounts that it was a bad design feature, as it added to turbulence when landing planes.
Beautiful Ship! I have always liked the design of the IJN Carriers. Very unique.
Frank G. agree
You’ve gotta be joking, right??
Actually akagi to design as battlecruisers but The treaty of Washington placed restrictions on the construction. So that akagi conversion into Aircraft Carrier.
me as well
Flat...
This is one of my favorite warships, ever. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I loved the Amagi battlecruisers. Maybe it’s because the ship itself looks good and has a cool history. IDK, just a ship I’ve always loved more than many others
This is very good. It really gives a feel for the size of the mighty ship! Have you considered doing any other classes, such as the Hiryuu, the Taihou, the US Yorktown sisters, or maybe battleships like Nagato and Kongou?
Yah yorktown sister
Uss enterprise yeah
Stefan Dramiński, you are simply the best. I've got a copy of Kagero's 3D book on the Japanese aicraft carrier Kaga, and is just amazing. I just ordered the one on the Akagi.
Beautiful! Would love to see this for all WWII ships!
Love how you even detailed the airplanes. Good stuff.
You can clearly see her battlecruiser legacy from her hull.
Particularly when it is at the bottom of the sea
Yep the Amagi class carries on.
I think this and the Kaga were the only ones with the Island on the port side. All USA, and Uk carriers had the island on the starboard side. As a Naval aviator, and civilian pilot I have always favored the left hand approach.
@Incept_470you are correct, of course, I must have forgot. Then again the the USS Langley, and HMS Argus had none. Hard to figure how the could run the show without an Island.
@Incept_470 Always enjoy being corrected, Thanks for the info. the Argus actually was used for combat cruse during WWII, but did most of its service as a training ship. But then again, my confidence is a bit shaken now.
Amazing!
Congrats , very well done indeed , 2 thumbs up for Stefan ;D
Where's the audio? Where's the descriptions? A nice 3D rendering but overall, so much is lost without audio and information.
Amazing, Beautiful.Really good work sir. Thanks for sharing.
I always liked how Japanese ships incorporated sandbags into their aesthetic...
Entertainingly enough those aren't sandbags, they're actually the crews cotton bed rolls hung out for an airing.
This wasn't the best idea as it added to the flammable nature of Japanese warships.
Superb work! Just amazing!
Beautiful work, amazing ship design.
Really enjoyed your exellent work - very well done.
WOW! Nice work. Very impressive. Keep it up
Fascinating. Beautiful. Amazing!
Still in 3-4 heck trying to get her

Farming hell, 2000 attempt and still 0 Akagi (& Kaga)
beautiful! well done
Great job!
Beautiful work.
That's awesome. Well done.
Your work is outstanding , it is amazing fact how to find out such detailed blue prints, than preparing texture, and of course modeling such robust model with full details, rendering images, producing video. It is great unique , amazing masterpiece.
Beautiful render, had to run the video twice at half speed to catch all the detail.
Incredible!
It is too much good and real
Awesome detail.
awesome built!! keep on building buddy!!
great job Stefan..Nagumo would be proud to see this....
great job!
Beautiful.
Beautiful
“an beautiful looking decorated ships, sailed by brave crew, to protect for an powerful nation, it would be Akagi and Kaga”
- Grand Admiral from KanColle
Beautiful modeling
カッコよすぎる!
This was the best aircraft carrier of its time!
It had structural flaws. They couldn't warm up the aircraft in the hangers which were closed. They had to bring the aircraft topside. Once they got topside the Japanese were very efficient.
Japanese engineers were sublime! @@deepcosmiclove
Well done, VERY well done!!
nicely done
Thank you very much for posting this. I just read a book I highly recommend to all you fellow nerds...."Shattered Sword" it is a detailed well-written book on the JAPANESE side of the Battle of Midway!! I loved it!!!
Yes that's a great book written by Americans from the Japanese point of view. Thee chapter on carrier designs was very interesting in that it showed the different philospophy towards damage control. This is what caused the 3 carriers to sink later in the dya.
Brilliant!
One interesting thing about Japanese carriers like the Akagi is they were not designed as aircraft carriers from the keel up, but rather cruisers which were converted with the flat top design to accommodate flight operations at sea. The Akagi itself was laid down as an Amagi-class cruiser.
Very well done!
Amazing bro. Very well done.
Nice work :) How long it takes to make this one model?
Please can you make Hiryu or Shinano?
Very nice.
Thank you.
Wonderful!
Montage au top !!...Bravo !!
Positively beautiful! I'm just a beginner 3D modeller and I aspire to be able to create works of art like this
Beautiful model. Well done. The one thing that really stands out looking at the detailed 3d model, is how little Anti-Aircraft defenses she had, and how poorly positioned they were. No wonder high angle of attack dive bombers were able to so savage the Japanese Carriers, while the low Torpedo planes got picked off. It looks like there is a broad AA blind spot that is directly over the ship. So many of her heavier higher altitude guns were obscured from upward firing angles by being below and partially under the flight deck.
Great job
Nice Capture✈
Great 3D rendition. It seems like some of the software developers out there could import something like this into Unity, and with a small amount of coding, create a VR version. Then we could walk the decks of this model. I wish I had the right skills. I know folks are importing human Blender models into certain Unity VR apps.
nice job!
Wow, this is very absolutely amazing Powerful and strong Aircraft Carrier, when thing about Aircraft Carrier and the wonderful Exxes class from the Navy with strong Navy Planes.
Great video
All hail the Bauxite Queen Carrier
Wonderful.
Perfection
They built beautiful ships.
With equally beautiful names.
You can see how Japanese cars are world beaters.
always loved japanese carriers very unique in their on way just how frank said it i agree frank very unique
I'd love to see one done, the way it looks on the ocean floor now.
Well Done!!!
Awesome!Subbed!👍👍👍
Beautiful ship.
Would be totally awesome if someone could do a 3D rendering of the inside of a ship
superb
Genial trabajo!!
Wooden deck,..no catapult,...one elevator. Very nice video! Shinano would be nice!
The Akagi was recently discovered by the research vessel RV Petrel along with the Kaga.
excellent
Impressive.
I am a big fan of Akagi, Kaga my favorite, Soryu, Hiryu, Shokaku and Zuikaku. Odd looking, but interesting to know the U.S. Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy are the only 2 Navys in military history to have fought 5 Naval Air Battles without the opposing fleets ever having sighted each other.
Nice! 🎯
I hope you plan to do this with the other three carriers lost at Midway, then the Yamato and Musashi.
Wow! Que hermoso! Felicidades!
BYW... great job
I like this stuff, as I 3D model ships and planes from WW2.
to whoever made this vid ,,pat yourself on the back for me ...nice work,,thank you..
A fine looking ship.
Great...👌👍👍👍
magnifique !!...
beautiful rendering. she was an historically important ship, though the Steel of which she was made knew no malice of any man, putting aside the horrible capability she (and other weapons of war) are built for, she has lovely lines to her hull, and a stout resolute structure made for her task. a great ship of a seafaring people, she met her end with honor, lying on the seabed in proximity to the Yorktown. she with her sisters dead along with those of our Yorktown im sure create some great discussions on the Elysian Fields. a drink in their collective honor now and i will post...
wow cool
Its like shôkaku soo good!
3/4 century ago. We Japanese had many carriers・・・amazeing fact !
and even now. It fascinates many people
taka top I have always known that
but its fascinating indeed
taka top indeed... I hope you could build an Aircraft Carrier once more 😞 I mean not a Helicopter Carrier like the 4 you have right now.
With the F-35 or something like it, you do have aircraft carriers. It's not lost on the world.
The Japanese Navy had some of the best looking and capable warships in history. Akagi, Yamato, Kaga, the Nagato class battleships. Yamato is tied with the USS Enterprise (CV-6) for my favorite ship in history.
it's only amazing if you don't know ANYTHING about world war 2. And from what I understand MOST Japanese know nothing about World War 2. Especially what the Japanese Army and government did to their country and to their neigbhors.
Geez, is that range finder big enough!
好厉害!!!!(Nice work!) :D
3D looks so realistic.
very cool...these carriers could dish it out no doubt, but they had a glass jaw
Ship model makers are obsessive compulsives on steroids. Incredible detail.
*slaps* *akagi's* *hull*
this baby can fit a lot of fighters , bombers and more fighters
What a gorgeous model you have. As a model railroader, my only question is, where is your crew? Other than that, a quality model and video.
Stephan should have a view portraying a Dauntless bombsight viewing the ship in an attack position. That would be marvelous.
Looks great, what modelling n rendering software is this done on.
Interesting design.
Well Done.
wow this one looks col
Cool👍
