The pilot needs two attempts to accomplish one of the most difficult landings in the World. Filmed from the Hafrafell mountain overlooking Ísafjörður in the Westfjords of Iceland 18 Aug 2012
Doing a ‘tour’ with Google Earth, the landscape is ‘other worldly!’ It is simply spectacular, stunning and beautiful. And, I love the Fokker 50. They probably should have made a version that was modified to maximize STOL capability, but apparently, the air crews take it in stride!
Very nice! Do you know where was this Fokker flying from? We flew to Ísafjörður from Reykjavík and the pilot used approach from the valley to your right (and landed safely on the first try :) haven`t seen this approach here on youtube so far.
And how difficult is this exactly? Every day a plane crashes maybe? Or is it every week or month? Every year perhaps? No Never? Than probably it is not that difficult for a skilled pilot. Speed and glidepath that is all there is to it.
I'm pretty sure this came from Reykjavík as well, because some people I met there were actually on that plane (small town ;)). I think the way they try to land depend very much on the wind conditions
