The NitroGang is does some hardcore speed gear shifting in this video. We are testing the HPI savage's Xl K5.9 transmission's 3-speed shift points after multiple adjustments have been made. My last speed runs were topping out at 44 MPHm what will I get today.
My Traxxas JATO 3.3 has not been seen on this channel in quite some time, due to the common Jato brake issues (brakes suck). I inspected and adjusted the brakes numerous times, and they always barely engaged due to the Brake arm itself flexing and hitting the diff case. To inspect the system I disassembled it all, and put it back together, somehow they seem better now. No clue!! IT's a phantom brake issue, ahha. Lets run them now. BTW I'm using old nitro fuel but a new 30% nitro in on the way right now.

I don't get it. I don't think anyone get it, other than just swiping out for upgraded brakes. That's easy, what matters is the fix to the original setup. That jato sounds good accelerating right!

The reason that the 5.9 seems rich low and lean high is that the motor is huge and takes a lot of fuel. There is no fuel pump, its relying on pressure from the exhaust to help push the fuel to the motor. But when its really moving, it cant push enough so it leans out. Makes sense to run a little rich unless you want to keep replacing seized motors.

History, from 12 to 20 years. Plenty of electric brushed tamiya kits. Grasshopper, blackfoot, lunchbox, clod.
Went to school.... Went to work...
28 years old w real job, real apt. Real pay. Some down time w $$$ burning a hole in my pocket( not really) Bought a tmaxx 2.5. Loved it. Invested $$$.
Stretched chassis, I've forgotten who made the chassis. insalled a hyper 21
Fwd only. Much happier w its performance. Gallons of fuel ? 5? 8? Not sure. Ill say, a lot.
    Bought associated mgt 4.6, dec.2006.
Broke it in. Ran great. Looking back, it did eat up some plugs. I went through a whole card of mc9 (real mccoy).
Wasnt just the mgt. I had also picked up another tmaxx 2.5 from a yard sale.
It got a new pipe, tank. Runs good. I parked that on a shelf years ago running and stock, cept for the new traxxas pipe.
Got married( DOAH !!) had children.
Bought house. On covid lock down. Cleaned up trucks. Freed up engines.
Hyper 21 was stuck.ordered fuel, never in my life did i ever think i would see the 'vp racing' logo on a can of nitro.
Maxx runs awesome. As if 10 minutes since last start but really 10 years.
Getting to the issue. Mgt 4.6
Starts right up ran good. Just as ot got to operating temp, died. Flooded s few times trying to restart. Called it a day.
Next day. Tried again. Ran for 30 seconds died. I suspected glow plug even thought the ignitor meter reads, well in the green area. Also truck is running too rich. Thats for sure. But that i can deal with..
Yesterday. Pulled glow plug from old tmaxx 2.5 ( i have no more plugs)
Put old t plug into associated 4.6
Fires up 1 st pull. Running in yard i lean out top end just enough to grab 2nd gear. This took me several minutes of running . i had almost run through the 3/4 of a tank i had added, just bringing it back over to myself to lean top another 1/8 turn, she stalls.
Wont start again. At 1st i thought it wasnt getting fuel? Wouldnt start again. Then it started to flood. But wouldnt start.
Pulled the plug. Still glows red pn ignitor. But to me that doesnt mean much. Doesnt mean its getting hot enough. Especially so rich.
Here it comes..... I ordered some hobbypark plugs off amazon, lmao
Where are you guys getting plugs.
I also wonder if my antique ignitor is cutting the mustard. Seems fine w the other truck though
My problem... The plugs i ordered from amazon are n4 or n3 ?????
    But the hyper .21 takes a mc59
The associated truck should be an mc9
Please help at 48 i really wanna get back into running these truck.

hey man! Just read your comment, took me a while, lol. Welcome to the NItroGang, I appreciate your view and the comment. Idk why all your RCs seem to be eating glow plugs, My RCs really rarely ever need plug replacement. What fuel are you running? Even those cheap hobby park ones run ok for the most part on my small block motors. In terms of the ignitor, do yourself a favor and buy the one I use in my vids (The Dynamite Li-PO) model. IT's like 28 bucks on amazon, and lasts forever and also much more powerful than the typical 1.2V cells in glow drivers. I honestly don't focus on the plugs at all, as long as the correct (turbo-non-turbo and length is the same as stock) its, fine. Also monitor your temps, is it possible your engine is running too hot and killing the plugs.?

Either way i always favored the maxx out of the 2. Its much lighter and gets way better mileage.

My savage is a gas guzzler obviously, but I only really run it for videos, otherwise I don't run it for fun, I usually take my Jato or the Reeve out for that. Is is possible you're missing a glow plug washer on your MGT? Even using a different plug should not kill them as fast as you say it does. Unless they are somehow getting destroyed internally. @hybrid32494  Před 4 lety

hey bro! I am still running the stock brake system on the JATO, It seems to be back to normal spec and is quite good now. The fix is something I stumbled upon by just trial and error. It seems after I removed the brake cam itself and the rotors I tightened the brake bolts to allow for minimal gap b/w the rotor and pads, after then I attached the brake cam arm. The order here is very important. It somehow allowed for more range of motion and the brakes are strong now. Weird, I know.

    • @mikeEshroom
      @mikeEshroom Před 4 lety

If you have any more problems you might want to look into switching over to the dual disks. I kept having problems with my brakes too, the better tires I had the worst my brakes were until I upgrade them and if you're still pulling wheelies you can definitely get a higher speed by switching everything over to a higher bell tooth with a smaller spur gear. "Hot Racing part number SJT39DG; UPC 083745635102" you might have to play with the carbon fiber brake pads I ended up trying three different ones the ones like real brake pads were too much I think I went with just two of the stock metal ones. Try to get a slightly wider tire that's a little bit taller that also helps with your top but you really got to lower your ride height. At stock height and high speeds any little wind will flip you over or send you off course. I've had it going 60 and the front end just come up and over in an instant.

Hey steve! This is the fuel i got with the savage from the previous owner. Id say its abput 10 years old at this point and the gallon has been used before, so it wasnt factory sealed when i got it. I know my jato easily hits 220 degrees with normal 20% nitro, but with this fuel it was struggling to hit even 180.

Hey dude, ive been eyeballing that set for a while, youre right. But somehow my phantom jato brake issue has been solved. And all i did was dissassemble and put it back together. Maybe the brake cam and block were seated incorrectly??

hey buddy! It took me a while to get the gears to sift well, don't think it's that easy, you're in luck that it's only your third gear which you're not hitting, because the 3rd gear clutch is adjustable without full disassembly of the transmission. There is an adjustment hold on the side to adjust shift point for third gear. I have a couple vids in this playlist if you need help. You need to turn the 3rd gear clutch screw counterclockwise 1/4 of a turn, then check again if it's shifting.

      @hybrid32494  Před 4 lety +1

Yup bro, you are right! I run a rich tune usually so i never get the claimed speeds. Ill be happy at 60+ for the jato though. Plus think of all that extra drag im adding with the bulky camera and mounts on a tiny 1/10 scale. You know. At 50+ mph the drag is very significant. New 30% nitro fuel is only 2 days away my dude. 👍🏻👍🏻
