I used to catch SO MUCH flak back in 2012 and 2013 on the forums for preaching UV was the secret to viral growth and color in LEDS especially and none of the fixtures had it, except Kessil. So happy to see the industry FINALLY including many more UV range in their fixtures. Great video as always!

Another master episode, I learned something and that is the reason why I keep watching your content.
It's cool to hear we are on the same page with T5 and Combo, in all my videos I recommended the Super Actinic and after it was either Super Purple or Actinic Blue.
The only LED I recommended another bulb was with Radion G5 Blue with the Aquablue Azure (and Super Actinic) to just get a bit more white if desire.
The correlation between Growth vs Color is a very very interesting subject.
I still believe having a wider spectrum is important to accommodate most of the different types of corals.

Hey, what you did not touch on at all was coral dipping. You should have really added this subtopic as it is a big part of getting new corals and can affect fluorescence and coloration!
Maybe you can do an experiment on different corals dips and how they affect coloration :)
I use coralRX and on SOME (not all) Acropora i notice a slight but noticeable loss of coloration.
Especially "deepwater" acros like suharsonoi, lokani, echinata really take a hit on coloration after dipping. (my experience)

Really enjoying this series. Have been my practice to keep the cool white channel on my Radions from 15% to 5% during the sunset, tank still will be blue, but that littler white light will enhance the colors on corals a lot better than just only blue. Also is the ingredient that will allow better pictures under blue.

Good day sir. I have a few questions for you please. I am in the Caribbean and very interested in this. What Nm lights do I need to do this at a natural reef? 15’ depth . Without harming reef. I’m hoping for the most colour I can get. I desperately need a crash course for dummies. You mentioned white, red etc but does it work to 15’ depth? I thought blue exciter and yellow filter barrier was all I needed. Boy was I wrong !!! I need to learn more so I can rig my boat for reef light show. That would be so cool. Thank you for the video .

Most of our aquariums are 2 maybe 3 feet tall max. For lighting at 15', you're going to probably have to go with metal halide lighting or talk to an LED company like Kessil about public aquarium grade lights.

Skip all the talk about why they are poor quality, everyone buying them already knows they are cheaply made and not likely to last long and no one really wants to hear a reminder. Just a showdown of the cheapest stuff out there. Maybe we will finish this year's lighting investigates with that but like Glenn said, for now, we owe it to the people who buy lighting from us to help them with setting those lights up optimally first.

A different point of view. I'm not gonna get any likes or 'hearts' for this. lol. But to me, in my opinion, if you guys want to achieve that '70s 'black light room' effect on these living creatures, you might as well gene-slam them Monsanto-style. Lambasting them with this intense spectrum may force growth like with foie-gras, but to me, in my opinion, an actinic spectrum not only looks MUCH more natural, I don't end up back in the 70s again. And dipping? in what pray tell? I hope it's not my ignorance.. but if that dip is only to achieve the coral equivelant of 'glow fish', that to me is cruel. I'm in the wrong place with opinions like mine I think. The channel seems to heavily promote false color in coral display and/or propagation
