Episodes are getting better and better, only gripe I have is the music is 1000 times louder than when yal talk lol!
Definitely noted! We will have this fixed for the next video.
Log book - also include a photo with the entry or note. Visual and notes = very helpful :D Keep up the great work.
Always makes it easier to go back and refer to!
Excellent guidance, thank you
Your welcome!
One of the best well presented videos by wwc on the education of sps.Going straight to my archive.
Awesome. THANKS
Glad that you enjoyed the content. Thanks for watching!
Thank you great tips , as I am trying to get into the acros this has given me some insight. The eye candy was great!
Thank you for watching. Hope you enjoyed!!!
I use an app on my phone and tablet to record my resting results which gives me helpful graphing - Reef Trace. My bonus tip is take a photo of your tank when you run and log your tests. That way you can look back at when your tank/a specific coral looked good and check the parameters at that time!
Keeping Track of everything is so important, What you are doing is amazing!
Great video!!
Thank you so much
I was at the store this past Saturday as we were on vacation in Orlando. The new tank is so freaking huge in person - it's going to be amazing!
Thanks for stopping in!!!! I agree, it will be (Borat voice) Vey nieeeeece!!!! Super excited about it!
Also, the ocean current changes, so it makes sense to also rotate flow in your tank
Sure does!
Absolutely love these episodes!! As soon as my notification goes off I am clicking to see what's new. Got 10 new frags coming from last weekends blizzard sale. That was a lot of fun. My first time ever participating in something like that.😀
Thank you for being in the sale! They are crazy fun and make sure you join for all the future sales!!!!
Very cool! Just reached out to my brother and reefer friends and started to plan to attend RAP Orlando! We are coming to see the 4k's!! Let's gooo!!
We will see you in April!
Thank you again for providing specific advice on how to make our aquariums successful. I have incorporated your advice over the past several months and my corals have shown positive results.
Thanks for watching. That is exactly the reason why we keep pumping these videos out!!!!
Nice selection for your first corals.
100%!!!!
What's your thought on on daily water change/vs AWC in a high in high out environement?
I second the thoughts of doing something on Euphyllia. I can keep up majors and minors with All For Reef. Can add Amino Organic for the aminos. Feel like there is something missing still that can help get them going strong and splitting.
We will pass the idea along.
I love, acropora they’re challenging, but so sweet when you see the growth & color
I agree 100%. Acros are my favorite corals, hands down! I like a little challenge, but like you said, so much more rewarding!
My nitrates are 5 and phosphate is .15. I use the Hanna checkers. Do I need to raise nitrates or lower my phosphates? I was leaning towards raising my nitrates to 15.
How can I anticipate the acros that are going to be able to be good neighbours and those that will fight? Can I assume that mili be ok close to each other for example? I’m building a 7’ reef and slowly stocking it but I’d like to be able to anticipate futur potential problems with coral fighting. Thank you
What is the name of the green acro with purple tips at 7:07 run time?
I’ve been waiting for years for somebody to spill the beans!!
Thanks for watching and listening in!!! Hope you got some takeaways!
My SPS tank is about 10 months old with some starter frags doing decently. I have coraline algae growing like crazy covering the back wall and my large arch dry rock. Is this a sign that I’m ready for higher end acros? I am using Radion G6 Blues, MP40 for flow.
It’s so true about inevitably ending up with acros. When i started the hobby 2 years ago i thought acros were boring. I mean they don’t move!
While I still want a mixed reef, im now 35% acropora and increasing.
It happens to everyone eventually. That 35% will soon be creeping up to 80% LOL
Can you do a video on high end acros and what species they are ? Like how can we tell what a Milli is vs a tenuis . What we should look for when trying to identify trade name corals cuz most trade names no longer have the species type included.
We can pass this idea along
I would love to see a video showcasing some daylight spectrum of the tanks. Maybe with the meaning show some reefers about color mixing a reef tank. Yellows purple blue in daylight and green red orange in blue 🤷🏻♂️
We can pass this along!
Any thoughts about tank maturity? Dry rock vs. Live rock from established tank. Whats the estimations on how long you should wait to start dabbling in it? What to do if your Beginger SPS browns out and bleaches? How long do you give a SPS to sit on the bottom and acclimate before you should react if it is not doing well?
Live rock is undoubtedly the best rock you can use. No way around it. I would suggest not adding any corals to tanks that are less than 3 months old, sps after 10-12 months preferably. We have done it way faster, but they do better with some patience. If a sps browns out or bleaches, find out why, and fix it. You have to find the cause first. You do not necessarily need to put sps on the bottom if they are going into somewhat similar par intensity. If you see an issue, don't wait, react immediately.
Great timing with the video. I asked this question earlier today in a community im involved with. What's you're opinion on........
Just a thought but... over the last week I've decreased light duration by an hour and intensity by 5% along with lowering my kh to around the 7.5 - 7.7 range. Everything still looks happy right now but....
Will this have the desired effect and slow down growth ??
Hi Leigh, Thanks for watching! From the combination of a lower alk and a decreased photoperiod, you should see slower growth rates on your hard corals.
@@WorldWideCorals That is music to my ears, or eyes in this case. Thanks for the swift reply 🙏
How to lower my phosphate from 0.90 to 0.03.I been using rowaphos and fauna marine power phos but still can't bring it down.My acropora can't survive.
You should do a video on Euphillia and Polyps.
we will pass the idea along
Do you guys have a brown jelly video?
Not at the moment, but that is a great idea!!!
I need to visit Orlando.
We would love to have you here!
Acros have great polyp extension and grow like weeds, but not fully coloring up on the tips. What would you recommend? My parameters are stable and are within what you mentioned on this video for acros.
Have you checked your PAR at the locations where the acros are on the rocks?
@@WorldWideCoralsyes, par is 375 max
Like at 8:02 what the name of that coral?
What about temperature? Do you have comments on a desired temperature and/or an acceptable daily temperature swing? Or the ideal length between heating cycles? I.E. do you size heaters so they take 6-12 hrs to go from the low to high temp so you only see 2-4 swings per day? Or is your swing small enough that you don’t care how many times it happens? Any advice is appreciated.
You should not have any fluctions in temperature at all, especially for acros. Stability is key! We maintain our tanks between 77 and 78 degrees. Heaters turn on as needed, not much to do there.
I have a 20x20x20 Cube tank. I have two Current USA 1050 GPH EFLUX wave pumps. Where would you recommend placing the wave pumps for best flow & which settings?
We are not familiar with those pumps, but generally we put powerheads on opposite ends of the aquarium. One a little closer to the front panel of glass, and once closer to the back.
Thank you for the advise. Much appreciated. @@WorldWideCorals
I thought the advice here about tracking variance was key. However, what about flow and lighting? I struggle with how quickly to make changes regarding flow and lighting. For example, I can see a coral is having issues that I suspect are related to flow. So, I make a change to that flow. But how long should I wait to judge rather my change was a good one or not if the coral is still not responding positively. In other words, how quickly should I expect to see a result from my change. I know this varies with the type of coral but some tips in this area would be helpful.
We very recently, did a whole video just on flow. Please search our recents for it!
@@WorldWideCorals Yes! Exactly what I was looking for. Not sure how I missed it three months ago.
I struggle with finding lighting that is in my budget… I have a light that is doing somewhat ok … par around 100-120 toward the top of rock work….. what acro can I grow in those conditions… alk. 10 cal 410 mag 1350 no 11 P.O. .03-.09 ok flow Nero 3 and scichi power head .. would a bird nest do good and digitata ?? Please help…
send us a message John to contact@worldwidecorals.com and we can get photos of the setup and help you out that way.
Nice corals, my big thing is what brand of salt do you use and what kind of food do you feed the corals and do you shut the pumps off? everybody has there own way, that tank looks great, so what's your way?
We use brightwell's neomarine salt. We feed our own blend of frozen food (reef mix), mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and reef roids. We do turn off the flow when target feeding and only the powerheads on when broadcast feeding. Thank you for watching and for the comment!
Thanks, appreciate that.@@WorldWideCorals
When I asked on r2r everyone said PE doesn't matter, only color and growth do. You guys are saying PE is the first leading indicator. So...which is it? I have sps growing, and with good colors, but barely any PE and I've eliminated factors like fish nipping and coral fighting
I don't understand why I can't get coral to grow. My parameters are WELL within the numbers you guys state here. ICP and my own testing very similar, 9alk, 435 calc, 1420 mag. Phospahte .04. Nitrate 9.1 (all hanna).. I run RO/DI. I've struggled getting things to grow for months now. 3 xr15's, 2 57" AI blades. I wish I could figure it out.
You can always send us photos of everything and you can email us at contact@worldwidecorals.com
You mention in the beginning that you changed the flow. What exactly did you change?
The powerheads got moved to the short ends instead of the long side panels.
How big (gallons) are those farm tanks?
The glass tanks are 750g each and the raceways are about 300 gallons each.
Please help.. what to do if tips of acro I have are turning brown I think algae … and boeaching toward the base… please help my water is good would 100 par not be good enough??
Hello John, No 100 Par is not good for acros that needs to be in the 200-300 range.
You've mentioned that pH is important but did not give a specific number. How much is too much, what's optimal and what is the lowest value you would recommend for acros? Thanks in advance.
we like to keep it around 8.1-8.4
I mean this is gonna sound silly but HOW do exactly keep things stable? I know I should keep things stable but how would one do that. Is it all just dosing? Figure out how much I need to dose daily and stick to that?
3 things Test Test Test
What is one of way you can drop phosphates safely in a reef tank?
We use Rowaphos in media reactors. You just need to pay attention to your flow-through rates since you do not want to drop them too quickly.
How many Par have you on your SPS??
It really depends on the type of sps you are referring to. SPS have a very wide variance of lighting needs, depending on the type, acros needing the most light. Acropora thrive in 250-350 PAR.
Can you add aminos, or any other supplements
You can. We do not dose trace elements, but we do dose brightwell aminos weekly.
I wonder why you don’t send corals to Puerto Rico. Are we’ve done something wrong or are some restrictions ? 😢
Restrictions unfortunately
Since you can't ship to Canada either, if I come down and pick up some corals, is there a way to take them back with me? I don't mean smuggle or anything illegal but are regular people able to get papers for this or do I need to start a company and start importing?
I think you should put the name of the coral on the screen when shown
I’d love to see a species of Acropora overview. Not the Jesusnuggetbubblegumhailmaryredglacticdookiecookiecopps stag. Real scientific names, where from and such info. I’m a huge Acropora Granulosa Fan. I’ve been out of the hobby for a long time and when I got out LEDs were on AI gen 1. There was a few Granulosa collectors and I see a lot more today. I want to do a Granulosa species specific of diffrent specimens in a tall tower 50 gallons or so. Simulate the part of the reef that they grow.
It ain't like it used to be. Back in the day we only went by scientific names(yongei, tortuosa, horrida, etc). It is very rare to see corals going by scientific names anymore. Dr.Veron's ID book was the bible back then.
Your growth habits in there are bananas
Sure are!
nice video, but why that terrible music, so loud?
Hi Eric, thanks for watching and for the feedback! We are aware of the issue and will have the volume fixed going forward.
Reef mafia bro, what are those pumps? Pantharei?
Good eye! Yes, those are Hydrowizards in our new 4000g system.
Hay Casper at 10:42
He wanted to say hi!
You guys need to get a better MIC !! Can barely ever hear you then bam the music is loud AF lol
It's not the Mic, it's in editing. We made not of this and will get that fixed for you all! 😁
Forgot to mention PAR for the farm 😢
It's all over the place. We purposely have PAR set to the type of corals in each tank.
@@WorldWideCorals how much on sps dominant?

how much ? and how up this ? carbo scrubber already put..
@@Solyum Kalkwasser and fresh air are the best sources to raise PH.
anywhere as low as 7.8 is considered safe but in my opinion any many others is that it's only healthy above 8.1. and higher. in the winter I strive for 8.2 at the bottom and in the summer when my windows are open I can't keep it under 8.4 and goes as high as 8.7
my main take away is keep it steadily over 8.2 and you'll have success. also I live in New England and have very poor luck using 2 part I made the switch to Kalk about 2 years ago and 1 its super simple and 2 the Reef thrives on it. 3 it keeps your parameters very very stable.
Got any yucky dead spots in there?
No dead spots in these coral raceways. There is a return pump and 6 mp40 powerheads in each tank!
Voice is very quiet, music is very loud so headphone users be careful :D
Unfortunately this hobby is destroyed by the outrageous coral prices. Really sad to see.
Ya I just checked out the there website. Insane. So much cheaper here in Canada
@@taylord9772 prices are absolutely unnecessarily retardedly high for no reason. It’s out of control and vendors like WWC and Top shelf killed this hobby. The trickle down effect of the prices all the way down to smaller vendors. Now everyone thinks they can sell a 1 inch frag for 1000$. Very sad to see these companies care more about money rather than the animals.
You can find frags for like 20 bucks. They have a fantastic high end store. They have to pay the bills
@@Drweiss_dmd no no no no no no no … not an excuse. You clearly are new to the hobby. There’s absolutely no reason why any type of coral on this planet should be at those prices. 500 600 1000 2000 5000$. It’s greedy and a money first mindset. I miss when these companies had passion for the hobby. It turned into a money hungry business just like everything else.
i love the content but my lord i can only listen to josh's voice for about 60 seconds then i have stop the video and move on. i understand he has a lot of knowledge but just a hard voice to listen to over and over again.
I disagree.
good content, bad editing, the voice is too low and the music is too loud ...
You’re gonna have a coral that says, “holy crap I’m happy” 🪸😝
That's the end goal my friend!
