Danann is most certainly a women, she is named after Danu, the Irish mother goddess of the Tuatha Dé Danann.
I like how Miura has made reference to Celtic mythology, especially since Fae (Fairies) feature heavily in Irish mythology/folklore.
As for what she is, she could very well be SK's daughter, and it seems Flora was banished for binding SK's soul to his armour, and turning him into a Revenant.

Its pretty obvious to me the taboo was penetrating the vortex to pull out skullknight and bind his soul to the current armor he wears. Messing with the eclipse is a sure way to place a target on your back.
Which would be why Griffith saw her as a threat that needed to be killed.
My theory is King Gaiseric and Void was once warlord who dreamed of conquering the world. Void could've been his right hand or adviser. Then when it was time to conquer Elfheim King Gaiseric fell in love with the elf queen which made him changed and forgets his dreams of conquer. Void didn't approved of this and something happened and Void was tortured as punishment. Because of this he sacrificed Gaiseric's kingdom or army to become a God hand.
It has to mirror the guts/Griffith relationship somehow
@@post-leftluddite it does, but Guts is Gaiseric while Void is Griffith where they both started with the same ambition of world conquest. But then Gaiseric having fallen in love with the elf queen destroyed that ambition for Void so he sacrificed everything.
I really think that's probable since there's also the fact that flora was banished from Elfheim for performing a taboo. I'm pretty sure that taboo has to connect to Skull Knight and the Elf Queen somehow. Which would not only explain how tf is Skull Knight is still even alive after that event, why Skull Knight has a connection to Elfheim, the taboo Flora performed, who's Void and why theres a link between him and Gaiseric, and finally explains how Gaiseric's kingdom just vanished. Really think that we're onto something here.
The only problem is that you can't sacrifice someone else's people.
Void can't make a sacrifice because it is not his people to sacrifice, unless, he was actually Giseric and the true story was lost to time.

I like the idea of ressurection of danann. but i think after she had ressurected, she no longer have her human memories and SK think it'd be better that way bcs of the terrible memories of the eclipse just like casca experienced? So that's why he told guts about regaining casca's memories "what you wish for, may not be what she wishes for" because in his case SK had chosen to not regaining danann's human memories

I feel like the REASON that the newer anime adaptations and movies have failed is that they didn’t nurture and build Casca and Guts’ relationship from all their manga scenes and chose instead to hurry to the “action” cause they thought that’s what the fans wanted.
They are wrong. If I wanted to watch an action big sword guy series then I’d watch shounen.
I think Berserk is a character focused series which includes a love story but that’s not the only thing it is. It’s a very character focused series.

@@HollowKonpaku I think love is just one of the aspects that pushes the plot of the series but it all comes down to the characters and how their actions have influenced their lives that they live. Each character has their own worldview and philosophy which drives them to their dream.
For me is Both a Dark fantasy,a psycology Thriller and a love story.

I heard than it was common for female rulers to not use "queen" but the title "king" instead just to make sure everyone knew who was in charge. It's only later on that the word "queen" was associated with authority.
It's possible the Berserker King and his Queen both died during Void's Eclipse and their souls were actually sucked into the hell vortex, but Flora, unable to accept this horrible reality, tried to bring them back in whatever way she could. Their souls were gone, but their bodies were recovered, and from them Flora took the hatred, rage, and desire for vengeance that lingered in the Berserker armor of the King and transferred that energy into the Skull Knight armor, becoming an entity of pure vengeance. And from the Queen's lifeless body Flora created what we now see as Danann.

I think that Floras taboo act was either putting The Skull kings soul into the armor or doing some sort of taboo revival of skull nights wife but the person who is revived isn’t the same person as they were. I had a similar theory that the "taboo" committed was somehow using the energy of the spirit tree/elfhelm to preserve the lover, or merge with them and reincarnate, however they are no longer the same person, just being used as a vessel. Taboo for the same reason as you suggested, and explains why that location is both the grave/resting point of the lover, and Danaan's appearance. I just think the assumption that the taboo committed was binding SK's soul/whatever to the armor is possibly a little too obvious, and might be intentionally misleading.

I think Skull knight underplays his own feelings because it is too painful otherwise. He lost everything. All that heartache has wrung him dry. Emotionally so exhausted he is just running on fumes. His poetic talk is just his way of conveying that his grief is so complete it has comsummed all he was. He just goes through the motions. Because all he feels is this deep need to mourn. Revenge for her and his kingdom...it is just the excuse he gives himself to keep putting one foot in front of the other instead of just letting himself just drift away.
The Berserk's armor is a cursed item. When you wear it, its Od incessantly fuels your battle lust and drowns out everything else, making you go berserk.In Guts' case, those feelings are represented by the Beast of Darkness, so the armor took on that shape. , when we first saw the Berserk's armor its helmet was shaped like a skull. That tells us that for Gaiseric, those feelings were represented that way. It doesn't necessarily mean he had "an inner beast" just like Guts, though. It could just be a way to represent his fighting spirit.

With the recent chapters, Berserk seems to be more about the story of Skull Knight, and guts & co. Are side characters/just told from their perspective.
In most stories side characters are like fish, that can not jump out of the water, but main characters ( plot armor) can do things that are usually impossible to do.
SK saved Guts & Casca. To prevent history from repeating itself.
We see a giant city, one empire similar to the one 1000 years ago.
SK sword can cut through space and time. We’ve seen it cut through space, but I wonder if the time aspect will occur. With every 216 years a Kbehelet becomes active.

So the other day I was washing dishes listening to your berserk manga analysis on repeat when a thought passed my mind. I have a real up the balls theory about skull knight. And it's my headcannon that the reason he first referred to the flower storm monarch as king was because HE was the previous king of elfhell. Oh yeah now we're cooking. The legend of king giser something states he was a man from foreign land who came out of nowhere. Hmm a magical hidden island perhaps? And his armour seemed very unique and would be difficult to be crafted by a human...maybe it was made by DWARVES HMM? And the reason he is knowledgable about magic and the like is that while growing up on elfhell he had close ties with the mages since he was the king of the elves? Then remember when puck mentioned skull knight felt like an ELF when he first met him? HMMM?!?!?!?? Tin foil hat type shit but to me it adds up. Also the army raised out of nowhere? POWERFUL MAGIC PERHAPS?
This sounds crazy but remember this, it has never been OFFICIALLY stated king geysuckrock was a human specifically. Afterall, why would a normal human warrior/king know about elfhell? HMM?!?!?!

On Danann being referred to as King, it is probably one of those cases of king being used in the gender neutral sense. In European history (mostly in central and easten europe like Hungary, Poland, Ukraine etc.) there have been instances of female Kings. It was down to there being no (blah blah. Some medieval legal stuff) for a queen to be a ruling monarch, so the woman was crowned as a king instead.
There’s also examples of these terms of rank being used in the gender neutral sense in other writings and fiction. Some Daedric Princes (masculine term) often having female voices and bodies, and being generally female-presenting; Nocturnal, Azura etc
I think of ghosts as disembodied dreams connected to the physical world which is why they are so unpredictable and strange acting with little limits and reason.

I had mused to myself on occasion... wondering what-if the fairy tale of King Gaiseric, and the story about Peekaf, both refer to the same person. after all, to Puck, SK felt similar to an elf. yet he is in a dwarven armor. so I considered two possibilities. first, he felt elf like to Puck because while crafted by a dwarf, the armor come from his home land. it felt like an elf, cause the armor came from Skellig. though then, there is the possibility he felt like a elf, because whatever was left of him was transferred into, and bound to his armor...and he was in life at least partly of elven decent, or...healed... as Peekaf was in life and as such was, in part of elven nature.
I think for the title of flower storm monarch “king” in this instance is neutral. It can be a man or a woman.

Impressive theory, my version is a little bit different, assuming that his lover is a high status priestess/witch she should have an elf with her (a powerful one) i believe in light of their final moment of the eclipse out of desperation Flora fuses the priestess soul with her elf and that explains why she has 2 forms, and i think Flora's situation in the eclipse is somewhat like Rickert, just that in SK time Flora found out sooner

I just got into this series last week by watching the 2016 Berserk and honestly the 3D style they went for wasn’t that bad. Dub ain’t bad either. And so far my favorite characters are Guts, skeleton knight and Gut’s friends

I think Danann is Skull Knight's daughter. I think her birth and/or conception was Geiseric's great sin that the sage Void called him out on. Maybe her birth being kept a secret and the sage Void with his big mouth was fucking that up. You should make a video about that theory. Please like this comment if you would atleast consider it.

5:17 Kingdom Hearst 2 Secret Boxx "The lingering Will" its not until birth by sleep is when you find out that bosses backstory and it aligned to your theory about how you view ghosts as not as people but a remnant of an emotion. an emotion so strong it willed itself to remain. In alot of ghost stories the same principle applies, a spirit with regrets or a feeling so strong that it remained behind after the soul passes.
Genius theory, but for me dadan being an hybrid and the daughter of the cherry priest and skull knight is more likely. Because of their talk on how she would like for him to stay on the island with her, while he's struck in the quest for vengeance and won't settle down and enjoy life anymore. Also if we consider the spiral concept of casualty, guts son is a character so important and game changing for the plot that it would've strange if had no incarnation in the previous cycle and the twist would be that just how dadan became a child of the positive astral plain, so did guts son but on the demonic spectrum

TIN FOIL HAT THEORY: what if Danaan is SK’s daughter?
So his lover in his memories is clearly human, and Danaan is clearly some sort of elf, but what was SK? I think that SK was a dark elf when he was alive as King Gaiseric. Let me explain.
In chapter 355, Danaan gives Casca a dress to wear, and saying “it’s beautiful. You look like some dark elf princess.” This quote brings something in mind. Danaan only says this line after she puts on the dress on Casca, implying that Casca doesn’t just look like one naturally, but the dress makes her look like one. This shows two things: Dark elves wear clothes similar to humans, and Danaan knows what a Dark elf looks like. Normal Elves like puck don’t wear clothes, which means dark elves may look more human as to something similar to Danaan.
Now let’s look at king giaseric. All that we know from him is that he came from an unknown land who ruled an empire before his downfall. We also never get to see his face. Now it’s proven that SK is king giaseric, as it was shown in chapter 362 and everyone, even Slan calls him “majesty” or “king”. Earlier in the chapters, puck mentions how SK gives off some sort of elven magic. This might conclude to that SK’s armor is the one emitting the elven magic, but as shown in chapter 361 and 362 that a dwarf made his armor, not elves, which means that SK’s actual soul is the one emitting the elven magic. And since SK is King giaseric, this would mean his soul would be an elf, and since normal elves aren’t human sized, he couldve only been a dark elf.
Where does Danaan fit in this though? What if giaseric and his lover already had Danaan before the eclipse, and since she was clearly an elf, maybe she was sent to elfhelm to study magic, and Giaseric knows where the island is because he’s an elf himself. Then the eclipse happens, giaseric turns into SK somehow and SK visits Danaan on the island whenever he can. But in the time span of a 1000 years until the main story takes place, Giaseric’s soul in SK’s body deteriorated slowly until only the grudge of vengeance against the Godhand and remnants of his elven Magic only remain. SK and his daughter become estranged as they slowly begin to drift apart. This is why in chapter 363 when the two meet, they don’t embrace each other like a father and daughter. SK only knows that Danaan was someone important in his life, way too long ago to even remember, so he stares at this unfamiliar yet familiar figure with an emotionless stare.
What if Danaan is SK and his lady's version of Moon Boy? Which makes Moon Boy's appearance at the end of the chapter even more meaningful.

Great video, lines up pretty well with my own conclusions about that chapter.
An observation I noticed is the way she held king gaisec was like casca held guts during the last part of the side story in the PS2 game before she disappears.
Fun fact: There are historical instances of women ruling as kings for various reasons. For example: Poland's Jadwiga of Anjou was able to rule as king because there was no law stipulating that the king had to be *male*. So, if you fancy, incorporate that into your headcanons.
Danan is a supernatural being and an immortal. The skull knight is a supernatural being and an immortal. The lady priestess of the cherry blossoms was a physical manifestation of Danan, who existed long before her. Guts is a physical manifestation of the skull knight as well. These beings exist in the Otherworld, the land of death. They interact with their living forms as immortal versions of them helping them on their journey. To reach the end of cyclical karma which is divine ascension.
I think the taboo flora violated was bringing back skull nights wife as danann. Why else would Miura bring up how similar they look, and that flora violated a taboo in the same chapter. However, skull night would have already been consumed by the armor at that point and is unable to love his wife again. Either that or Dannan is their daughter maybe? I dunno. Just seemed interesting Miura brought up how they look so alike and that flora broke a taboo in the same chap. @RealLifeRyan

Nice theory. Mine is that skull knight gave into his rage from the death of his lover and allowed the berserker armor to take control. He attacked all creatures friend, foe, animal, human or mystical. The taboo that flora did was she separated skull knights soul from his body. The reason that danan looks like sk’s lover is to ensure that should he ever attack indiscriminately again they would have a way to bring him back under control. Plus sk has a sentimental attachment to elfhiem believing that his lover is buried there with Danan as a walking/talking reminder. There is nothing in the lore that says only one god hand can be born at a time also remember that once you become a godhand you take on a new form so slain could be gasric's wife. You are correct time passes differently in elfhiem we dont know how much time flora and sk spent searching and fighting the god hand before flora passed away and was kicked from elfhiem also flora should be able to prolong her life through magic.
