I think visualization is really helpful, if you're picturing yourself at Vegas or the Olympics(Olympics is more relatable if you're a recurve shooter, I'm a compound so I'll never go to the Olympics based on my style) and you rehearse what the experience is like in your mind, when you actually do it, it doesn't seem as nerve wracking. If I imagine myself at the Vegas shoot, being next to all of the pro archers, and I imagine the whistle commands of thee referee going off inside my head, the sounds of arrows hitting the target, the crowd cheering, then I won't be as worried if I go to Vegas shoot or a competition, even if it's smaller than the Vegas shoot! Some even argue that visualizing inside your head, activate the same parts of the brain and the same neurons as doing it physically. And since some of us can't shoot 24/7, then we can still practice mentally by visualizing! Hope this helps all of you!

Great video, Jake. The mental game is so important, no matter what your goals as an archer may be. Lanny Bassham, With Winning in Mind, addresses this key component of growth and success in any endeavor, and lays out the way to do this. I am glad that you reference his work.

Jake, long time viewer (well, for the last 3 months, anyway), first time commenter….
Thank you, this video made a huge difference for me today. I’ve just had the best day with the bow, and all due to consciously thinking of things whilst at full draw.
    Thank you!

imposter syndrome effects people in all sorts of ways. The strange thing about imposter syndrome, is that once you learn that its 'a thing', it becomes far less of a problem. I think this video should is for anything you do in your life... not just archery.

Awesome video Jake. Many methods you're describing are also used in different therapies or spiritual approaches. What I like about it is the training from a negative self-image to a more balanced one by focussing on the positives WITHOUT pushing away the negative. The last, if we do that, could result in a more narcissistic self-image (I am the greatest and never wrong. It was the equipment not me. Haha.)
This is an approach of kindness and selfcompassion rather than the super competitive style of bashing yourself up and that way 'becoming better'.
    Thanks for the tips!

Goto his video on specific physical training the strength and endurance excercises either with a bow or a stretch band are extremely beneficial i like to do them when I'm not shooting particularly well rather than practice bad arrows, i also find the holding one really helps build form.
