Now, let’s say you’re mixing, and you’re having a bit of trouble beat matching or finding a way to mix in the next song - like you wanna change genre’s or go to another BPM range.
What can you do to do just that in a synch?
Well, we can implement method number 1 which utilizes an echo effect, and a properly placed cue point.
So it works like this:
While the currently playing song is playing, make a cue point on the next track, at a section where the song really begins - like when its vocals drop, or when a familiar melody kicks in.
Then when you plan to mix in the next song, simply activate an echo effect on the currently playing song, and bring down its volume fader, then as the echo lingers, play the next via the cue point we just made.
Do you ever find yourself mixing the next song in and you realize that you’ve triggered and played the next song too early or too late in a mix?
Now, you can’t go back in time, and re-cue and play the track at that perfect transition point, so we need to find a way to offset those number of beats - so this is where trick number 2 comes in.
I call this the emergency loop trick and it works like this:
When you realize you’ve mixed in too early in a song, simply make a 4 beat loop on the song you’re mixing in
And if you realized that you’ve mixed in the next song too late, just make a 4 beat loop on the song you’re mixing from.
Now, one of the reasons why you may mix in the next song too early or too late in a mix, could be because of your timing. Perhaps you simply didn’t trigger the next song on time at the transition point.
So to assist with your timing, we’re gonna use trick number 3, which is to activate Quantize.
Now, what quantize does basically, snaps cue points and loops to the currently playing songs beat grid.
And this concept is easier demonstrated than stated, so here’s a quick example of a how a track will react when I trigger its cue points with quantize disabled.
And here’s how the track will react with quantize enabled
Notice the difference? So the software will try to fix your timing so that when you trigger a cue point -when a track is currently playing,
the software will make it align perfectly with the master decks beat grid which should be the currently playing song.
And this will help greatly when triggering the next song and even making perfectly timed loops.

Another great trick is to use beat jump function if you mix in to early or to late.
Agreed. I've used the beat jump function to jump back or forward a few beats when I've missed my cue point. You can also use the beat jump function to build hype out of a mistake. Just have to practice doing it.
I've also used this when I realize I'm way too late in the song to have time to mix in the next song well... kinda like a loop after the fact
Great videos Carlo!
BTW, which software are you using to capture rekordbox, the controller and add those cool annotations and effects?
Jip
Yes true the DDJ 400 controller Pioneer has a jump beat button on it which is great
The worst mistake for me is probably the easiest to do, loading in the song on the wrong deck... Especially while using dual decks like the ddjs
Oh yeah! That's pretty common!
There must be a deck lock protect feature on your system?
Actually Serato have one, you must pause de deck before you load a song
On Rekordboy u can activate the Lock feauture, so you cant overwrite a running song
Dont you ever have press cue button on the deck was already playing ?? 😅🤣🤣
Damn Bro. I really got a playlist with damn near half of your videos🤣. I legit have learnt basics from you my guy I would love to send you videos of what I can do from what you been teaching 🤣shoutout from LDN 🇬🇧

Hey mate, super useful video as always! Just a quick request, could you do a video about song selection while playing live? I've got a huge gig coming up in December and I want to make sure I smash it and make the dance floor happy! (please go over things like: How to read a crowd, how to choose the next song based on what the crowd is doing/feeling, what to do if no one is dancing and things like that!)
Thanks a million this video is Very very important for me you are such a great teacher in my whole life ❤ thanx

My favorite is the 2nd one ! I started to laugh ! You just have to 4loop the next or the currently song that you play. It's fantastic, thanks for your trick! I definitely will watch all your video, you explain good it's easy to understand you ! ✌🏼😌Thanks alot!

Great tutorial again from you DJ Carlo. I have used trick number 1 before when I was mixing two tracks in very far BPMs.
The 3 tip was mine, I keep my quantize on permanently now. Thank you for all the tips.
How do you turn quantize on?
The loop trick was life saving!!!
Very much! Saved my bacon a few times.

DJ Carlo Atendido I will 😁
This was clean! Learning a lot!
Nice! I’m totally using the emergency loop
Thanks for watching the video!
Great vid DJ Carlo! Can also put the playing track on a 16 beat loop when the 2nd track is slow, if you forgot to que in time or track will not load. Instead of sweating trying to pull a track @ the last gasp, Suddenly you have all the time in the world!
very helpful tips! Can't wait for your next vlog bro! 💪🔥 DAYUM you have a DDJ 400-S 😭
That silver ddj400 😱 OMG it's awesome!
I love the second set... Tnx dj #carlo for giving knowledge in this situation..
Thanks for this one DJ Carlo! I'm currently practicing different kinds of transitions and techniques to improve on my mixes. Tho only mixing on a smartphone but still I love DJing and hope to get better on it.
@@djcarlo will do DJ Carlo.👍🔥
thank you for this video.
Yay! You’re welcome! More mixes to come!
Thanks. I’m a mobile dj here in Surigao City and Bar in Siargao. Thanks for the tips bro.
awesome bro.(thanks)
I use often the first trick, having traktor i use a delay in single mode (not group) with freeze enabled. Is a fantastic trick.
I mostly can't use your tricks as I'm mostly into loooong mixes without effects and don't like using cue points because I have the time not to, but the loop tip is GREAT!
Hi Carlos... Well done... Great trick's.. you always give us very interested videos I like it ... Keep doing this amigo for all of us we started a dj career... 👊🙏 ... Saludos from California usa
Very helpful and straightforward tutorial.
The best channel in CZcams!!
Duuude, this quantize tip helped me a lot
great to hear that! thanks for watching!
Trick 2 is my favorite. Even though I did learn this a long time ago with training from the ears.
Yep, I also emergencyloop quite often when playing around with tracks I don't know and haven't set cue points.
Love you bro
I like the second tip...... thanks for it.....
You're welcome! Thanks for watching the video! More tips coming soon!
Thanks carlo
Also breakdown can save your mix . Thanks for the video bro keep it up 🔥❤
Awesome
Best video bro.. keep it up
THAT NO 1 DUDE! THANKS... I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT HAHA 🔥
THAT WAS SOO INFORMING THANKS SOOO MUCH I made the 2nd mistake I think
No worries! Glad it helped!
Thanks teacher
You're welcome! Hope you learned something new here!
Legitness! Thanks
Glad you learned something from the video Geo!
Personally I always choose what song I'm gonna next before I mix
I only improvise when I'm practicing.
Even if your good at DJing never stop practicing, there's always something new to learn everyday
That is so true! Keep in practicing! That’s a golden rule! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I liked the third. I was wondering what quantize did. Lol. Learning new things everyday
Man i keep watching these thanks so much I have my first gig soon I'm shakinggg🙈😂
junior jankie how did it go ?
That's good! All the best!
Top fan here Carlo!!
Always watchin' your vids from CZcams to Facebook!!
Please do a giveaways!!
Genius thank you
I would love to see more video using the Ddj 1000 srt. I just bought it
@@djcarlo traditional mixing with no controller. I would love to see some of these tips in that setup , please Carlo.
Thx for that video , i already did all of these. Mixing too early...
No problem! Practice makes perfect!
Very informative bro. Proud to be pinoy
For trick #2, I just beat jump. In fact, I have two knobs on my midi controller to adjust the jump size and direction. It's also been helpful when I need to mix in a new song hella last minute and need to quickly jump to just the right moment to mix out of the chorus.
Logic and Ableton imo are the best DAWs, I've recently made music in ableton myself, give it a try. Once agin, smashed it with the great video. Very informative, well done.
You too. Maybe a tutorial one day? ...
thanks for quantize tip
Great vid learnt alot from u already . I could do with advanced beat grid vid , cant beat grid all genre's and with vocal before first beat, tks
Have you ever tried making music yourself on DAW’s? Many DJ’s have also tried producing music
@@djcarlo production is a whole different game ;)
Number 2 was perfect because i use it in every trick
Couldn't say how often these little helpers saved my a*** 😂
Helpfull broh
The looping is actually my favorite caise it's easy to do on PC and the last one too by the way
Yay! Glad you think so! Thanks for the watching!
Great video once again, Carlo. Quantize is always on when I'm mixing. It's a boon for you, Noobs.
I have to say emergency auto loop because if I’m off by a certain amount of beats my brain will immediately go to the loop section so it’s the most natural for me. The echo effect is useful for anything and everything too! It gives the song that extra kick in the transition!
All amazing tips. Only would like to ask to use less controller fx pads or controls and use more beat effects on the mixer or cdj loop controls just so it’s a good habit to pick up for more club set ups as bringing our own controllers to a club/bar can be less convenient for some
Great video. What are the odds that's what I implement on my mixing.
Scenario #2 because I cant relate to it. 🙈 Its happened to me a few times already and when it does I feel so bad it don't enjoy my set because I'm afraid to make the mistake again. Defiantly gonna try this trick.😁
i have been adding loop points into end of songs in the event I can't get the next track ready in time, I can loop till I am ready to slowly mix in the new track. I prep using Traktor.
nice one bro
Thanks for the visit!
@@djcarlo please send me a gift
Simply amazing my friend👌👌👌 by the way Marlo, where u frome ?
Thank you my friend for watching! I am from the Philippines!
Echo drop is the one I use frequently 👍
Another helpful tips from my inspiration. Pa shout out po.
Hi Carlo...thanks for all ur tutorials....I'd like to ask if u could do a tutorial on how to play hip hop tracks ,new school like Lil pump , migos drake,etc...be coz there is a huge BPM difference....thank u
DJ Carlo Atendido i would love that too. nobody shows how to mix music like that but its really hard
Scenario #1 seems simple and quick ,especially if you have to think on your toes
Thanks man , I really appreciate all you do for us newbies .
