I know it’s years later, but I wonder if I just bought the very same bike you’re riding. Put a deposit on it at All-Season Motorsports and am grabbing it Friday. It looks like a lot of fun.

Good review man. 1 thing I would ask - tilt up the camera a little :) The KTM dash is nice but I enjoy the scenery too.

I tried the new engine -16 model and that's a smooth bike. :-) No vibrations what so ever. And I have a Triumph triple to compare with. So probably a new 690 Duke in my garage some time in the future. I tried the BMW F800R the same day and that bike has got alot more vibrations. Couldn't see anything in the mirrors. Anoying. So Duke it is! :-)

Was the vibration bearable past 125+kmh? Very helpful review!

Philip Jolicoeur Hey man sorry for the late reply. Thanks!
The vibration really isnt as bad as everyone says it is. this bike rolls happy and smooth up to 150 then it gets a bit buzzy. Im actually doing another review on it today now that ive done more reviews i wanted to make this one shorter so more people will view it.
      So stay tuned!

how does it compare with the street triple im stuck between the 2 but i feel like this would wheelie better but then again it less powerful

+genelode Oh man thats a hard choice!!! as similar as they may be, the Duke has very different character than the triple. The sound of the triple alone would make me want it, but the riding position of the duke and torque is so compelling.
The triple is more like a sport bike than the duke. So it really depends on the application you plan to use it for.
For me, and my riding style... Id take the Duke. Its a wheelie machine!
The triple can pull some very nice wheelies but you have to a bit more experienced to get the triple up. The duke just does it on its own :P

How does it compare to the Street Triple? I am torn between the 2... Coming off a Sportster 883 and looking for something with more performance and handling. Are the vibrations worse than on a Harley? I know the duke and the striple are kind of apples and oranges engine-wise, but otherwise they should be comparable, I guess. Not looking for top speed, as I live in Costa Rica and there's not many places to really stretch them out... there are lots of twisties, though. Looking for a commuter bike to ride to work, in traffic, lots of filtering and then hitting the twisties on the weekends.

+Jorge Thompson Honestly the Triple is a much more refined bike, much much smoother and more of a linear power curve and offers more usable performance than the Duke.
The Duke for sure has more vibrations than the triple, the triple is just incredibly smooth and has the most intoxicating sound. My triple review is on the channel if youd like to check it out.
If you are doing majority city or traffic based driving, the duke is a great option and will gladly eat up twisties!!
its a difficult choice to make. it really depends on your riding style. if youre a stunter and like bursts of torque, go the duke route. If you like speed, and more of a theatrical ride and " sport bike " like feel, do the triple.
      regardless you wont be dissapointed.

+Rent This Ride Thanks so much for your reply! Checked your Triple's review and the sound really is intoxicating. It got me lusting for one even more :). Although, coming from a Harley, do you think i might feel more "at home" with the Duke's single (Meaning, torque-wise and vibrations)? How would you rate them in terms of fuel economy, cost of ownership/maintenance and maneuverability/handling? I understand the triple has a rather large turning radius. How about the occasional 2-up ride?

Jorge Thompson To be honest, I think thats what you need to decide. If you think youd prefer something a little more familiar or would you wanna try something completely new. Both bikes offer things the other doesnt. Which makes it more difficult to decide!
The triumph is for sure better on fuel than the duke. But that is mostly because with the Duke you tend to play in the torque band more and also because of the taller gearing on the triumph. But i dont think the fuel economy difference is enough to use as a deciding factor.
Handling i honestly have to give it to the duke for my riding style. it feel way more agile and light on its feet than the triumph, But a lot of that has to do with the riding position and the weight!
At high speeds or on a track i would feel more comfortable with the triumph. The duke is more of a playful bike, but can still be utilized for 120kmh - 150 km\h.
As for ownership costs, its hard to say, youd have to read forums and long term ownership reviews to see if there are any common issues.
For riding double, for sure the triumph. I would be very leery of double riding on the duke, its so light in the front. with a passanger youd be pulling wheelies with ease in 3rd gear with out the intention of doing so.
If i were you, i would start off first by sitting on each bike to feel riding position as they are very different. That alone might push you to one or the other.
i did two reviews on the duke690. there is a long version thats like 21 minutes and a short one thats like 6 minutes. Check them both out! and thanks for the feed back :)

So, between this Duke 690 and the Triumph 2014 Street triple - what do you lust for the most? If you were going to own one, mainly city riding :)

+Rent This Ride Thanks. Interesting, based on your commentary during the ride and reviews it seemed the Street Triple did it for you more.

You can get a faster bike than the 690 Duke. You can get a more comfortable bike. You can get most anything more than the Duke. Except, more fun. On the road, you won't find anything more fun.
