    I’ve known how to play Solitaire when I was 7-8 years old. I’ve always taken it for granted that everyone knows how to play, but I guess that isn’t necessarily the case, is it? I don’t know why I watched this. Maybe to experience a vicarious sense of curiosity at how to play that card game that used to come preinstalled on everyone’s computer?

    You can play cards in suit pile, if needed.

    • @Rulies
      @Rulies  Před 5 lety +4

      Brigitte Coffman Wellllll.. that’s debatable. This comment deserves a good answer! (more below)
      -----------
      Regarding Moving Cards Out of Foundation Piles
      ---------
      When making this video I went to the library! Most books, (such as Hoyle's Rules of Games, published in 1742, but modern books as well) explicitly say that you can’t. I think most people that play with physical decks of cards do not move cards out of the suit pile (aka foundation pile).
      BUT, in computerized versions, windows 95 solitaire lets you, and now many other online versions let you as well (though some deduct points). So I think many people picked that copied from that. I wonder if the windows version was intended or a programing bug? No way to know.
      I’m more of a traditionalist, so I prefer that you are not allowed to. But, in a way you are right: you "can" because I always think you should play how you prefer. Its just a game for fun!
      P.s. Klondike is a hard game. If you are looking for another way to make it easier, draw from the stock pile one at a time instead of three. I’ve seen that as well.
      Thanks for the comment Brigitte! Good food for thought.

    I watched several videos to see if you can move cards from the middle of the column. You said yes. No one has mentioned it in the other videos. The other thing was one video said you can move the card back from the foundation row on top. You said no and that it’s out of place so I’m wondering if there’s different sets of rules for different types of games.

    • @lauraleom7469
      @lauraleom7469 Před 8 měsíci +1

      My grandmother taught me how to play 45 yrs ago. She did not move cards from the middle of the column. Nor did she move cards out of the foundation piles once placed there. I'd say pick the rules you like and then stick to them.

    Good! Teacher. I just had not played in awhile needed a refresh. But, I usually just hold cards in hand Klondike and look one at a time not 3 down. Is that ok?

    • @Rulies
      @Rulies  Před 2 lety

      Hi! 3 down is the most common way to play and (for me) it is the most fun way because you have to be strategic about cycling through the deck. But…
      But if you like to play 1 down, then I say go for it! Having fun is the most important part. 😄 Some people that turn 1 at a time limit it to three passes through the deck to make it more challenging.
      Hope that helps!

    I tried and enjoyed this classic card game for the first time today, and yours was the best and most entertaining tutorial on Solitaire I found on CZcams (and I watched a couple dozen). Good show! I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video. The overhead camera shots were done well, and the dark blue background made the cards stand out nicely. Your instructions were clear, and I liked the spots of humor. The only small things I could add would be: 1) Like "talon", I also think the word "tableau" is a cool term associated with this game, 2) I've heard that some limit the number of times one can go through the stock -- but why would that be better or more fun? and 3) As far as scoring, traditionally are the cards in your foundation piles at the end of the game worth a certain number of points each? Just wondering. Thx again!

      Thanks so much!! Comments like these keep me going... (more below)

    • @Rulies
      @Rulies  Před 4 lety +1

      .. and to answer your questions: 1. Tableau! Cool! You taught me something, I like it. 2. Limiting passes makes the game harder.. in my opinion the game is hard enough. 3. Well, traditionally, the game isn’t scored. So if you want to be truly old school it’s just win or lose. Scoring came in with the computer era. I do like to use simplified scoring (the amount of cards) as a way to make the game more approachable... since most people will lose more than they win.
