    Tried Autoglym High Performance tyre gel for the first time this morning. Easy application and brilliant finish 👍🏻

    For the initial dress I would use a dedicated rubber cleaner like carpro retyre. For maintenance cleaninig an APC will easily do the job. I switched from Pearl to Darkside and like Darkside a lot but need to buff off after 2 hours otherwise it tend to be a bit too glossy

    That is a really good tip on the browning. I use TW graphene tire shine and it works for me.

    John get some Rimmats. I got mine the other day. You can wash and dress all way around the wheel without moving the car and it stops you contaminating your brushes and applicators with dirt from the floor. Really suggest trying them

      I was looking at the Rimmats & thought they were a really good idea. Good to hear some good reviews about them!

      Great video as usual Jon 👍

      @@Rosscoe360 there does seem to be quite a few benefits with them. It stops the pressure washer blasting stones on the floor back up at the car, it provides a barrier for any oily dressings that could potentially stain stone or block paving, it reduces the risk of you scuffing your knuckles trying to get around the bottom edge (I've heard it's a common thing, I've done it once and it wasn't pleasant), and, it also works as a hose guide to stop your hose snagging around the outer edge of the tyres. They've started stocking them on amazon now for 50 quid with about a fiver delivery, that's where I got mine

    Spot on about Michelin tyres not taking on dressing too well

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před rokem +1

      yer I love the tyres but the dressing tends to not bed into it and can be patchy. Contis take a dressing really well but I am less keen on them as a tyre.

  • @owensteele1645
    @owensteele1645 Před rokem +1

    It's important to remove tyre dressings before re-applying. Dealership valeters are under very tight time constraints so don't have time to do this. The valeter at a MINI dealership near me applies a fresh layer of tyre dressing to all the cars on the forecourt every week. Due to the dressing build-up, the tyres have now turned orange on some of the cars that have been on sale there for months.

    We use AutoSmart's HighStyle at my work, which does the same thing as the Autoglym tyre gel. It gives a dark, rich look to the tyre that lasts for months.

    I have noticed that meguiar's G9624 consumer apc is amazingly good at cleaning tires!! Virtually better than the D101 pro version.(though initially I thought it was the same as D101 in a 10:1 mix, but they are slightly different!) Same meguiar's hot rims wheel & tire cleaner is great on tires.The dressing meguiar's hot shine tire spray G12024 and based solvent. But with anti-ozone technology. So it looks pretty good to me after a big tire cleaning?!. In addition, I love their matte dark black appearance & super hydrophobic .Even if the label announces "hot Shine" once dry it is more satiny than shiny! Compared to stamina gel which is brilliant.

    Surfex HD and a Vikan brush, followed by Perl 3:1(ish) and a large microfibre applicator works well for me. Perl on the trim and interior bits too. Have some Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel to use up but been a while since I've reached for it as I felt it dried out the Contis. Maybe it wasn't the Megs but I was concerned with how dried out they looked after a wash.

  • @craigorton4269

    I used to use the meguiars gel was decent ,but now using the auto finesse satin as i find its not to wet looking doesn't dry tyres out and dont get any sling 😊

    Great Vid John, the Autoglym dressing is so good! You should give Bowdens Own Sweet Rubber or if you like that new tyre look their Tyre Sheen
    I'd be happy to send you a few bottles of their stuff to test, like their sealants, tyre dressings and quick detail sprays if you like

    I'm still on a bottle of autobrite direct tyre gel I bought more than a decade ago (probably 15 years), probably only half way through the bottle. I just layer it on top of the last application no muss, no fuss. Tyres != paint, so long as it looks ok I'm not too fussed.

    Larry from the AMMO NYC channel would avoid the use of any solvent-based tyre dressing that contains Hexane, a very flammable material that could cause the rubber to perish and crack prematurely.

  • @DjNikGnashers
    @DjNikGnashers Před rokem

    Thanks Jon, I use the Maguires endurance tyre gel, it seems to last dozens of washes.
    The only thing I would do differently to your good self, is application. I always got on better with a brush, as the foam applicators do not put it on as evenly, and with a brush you can get the tiny lip between the rim protector and the wheel rim itself. With an old detailing brush it makes application even and easy, and you can avoid getting any on the actual wheel.

    Use Garage Therapy Tyre Serum and scrubbing will be a thing of the past. Dressings especially solvent based but water based aren’t much better, just leave a load of black gunk a week later, hence the need to scrub with a powerful cleaner and brush.

    A bit off topic but I just couldn't find the answer for this:
    Does glass coating/sealant help making bug splatter less sticky?
    I do not really have an issue with hydrophobicity as I already uses Gyeon Wet Coat on the glass and it performs ok, but the bug splatter and tree sap just sticks to the windscreen and does not come off with my windscreen cleaner and wipers.

    Refreshing to hear the reference to ant-ozone Jon. There are a lot of people who believe scrubbing out the anti-ozone & anti-oxidant is a actually "cleaning" the tyre.. Bridgestone actually refer to this when explaining why tyres crack Quote "frequent use of tyre cleaners and dressings that tend to remove some of the tyres’ anti-ozone and anti-oxidant protection." Unquote. Removing surface dirt should only require the method as you describe.

    I’m always surprised you don’t have a 0pp file yet with your hose. Raceglaze one lasts for ages. Just means drying is less of an issue. Tries so many dressings including ones that claim their Permian t and £50+. Little and otter winds. Autoglym is decent, the turtle wax wet n black is actually decent pair with the mammoth square tasting sponge. The only sponge I have gotten on with so far.

    What would be a good dilution ratio for BH Surfex HD to use on tyres Jon? I was using it at 20/1 but found it caused drying/cracking on the side wall. I know it's potent stuff, I just don't think I realised how powerful it was!
