He ran this time on an "Old School" synthetic rubber track, and not on a modern Mondo surface track. It's been illegal to resurface or create new tracks using this material in California since about 2007 or so. Get him on a modern (harder and faster) Mondo surface, and with the right conditions, he's got a great chance at cracking the 10-second barrier.

Almost every high school you can find has Mondo. The estimated cost for this quality of Mondo is only about $300K, including throwing and jumping surfaces. There are a few dirt tracks from the 1980's, but no Old School synthetic rubber ones. They are illegal here.

Being 39 and seeing lots of athletes come and go it almost seems like a bad thing to peak so high in high school specially in Track and Field. A lot of athletes in track and field cant PR or PB after high school myself included. I was a 49 foot TJ and a 6'6 HJ in high school and never improved 2 year of college and I stayed around the same. Those same numbers from high school that seemed so beasty are average at best in college pro level but I hope the young man can keep improving with the competition.

      .2 seconds.

the runner gains .2 second on the start as the stopwatch is started and loses .2 second on the finish as the stop watch is stopped.
