As a hurdler myself, I’ve often actually found that a headwind is sometimes better to run in than an excessive tailwind, since a strong tailwind can actually mess up your rhythm between the hurdles. Just another reason to take wind conversations with a very strong grain of salt here. Nonetheless, I am extremely impressed by and excited for Trey Cunningham.
Actually, actually, actually…….
Wind conversion definitely does not work as well in hurdles as it does in the sprints.
@@davidj8658 nope, it's common sense if you understand the sport. Especially for a tall hurdler. It doesn't hurt shorties as much but heavy tailwind hurdle heats are often a disaster of constantly hit hurdles
Good comment. All of this “wind adjusted” chat is at best misleading and at worst simply incorrect. Sure it would be lovely for athletes to compete at optimal conditions at all times but that isn’t a reality. Athletics is all about beating everyone else on the day. Getting too caught up with records and times is not what the sport is ultimately about.
Yes hurdling with Wind can be really challenging , but I always felt like around +1.0 is perfect. Trey can achieve a lot this season
Under such conditions - headwind, rain, cold - world class.
Headwinds don't calculate the same way for the hurdles. Big tailwinds even result in runners needing to hold back because they push you towards the hurdles and increase the likelihood you'll hit them.
@@veganpotterthevegan a0ààa00aà0
Great point. The mild head wind might have helped and not hindered.
@@veganpotterthevegan gotta agree
Should be tested for drugs before getting all excited.
He’s definitely capable of getting Grant’s 12.98 collegiate record. However, hurdles are variable and it’s all about putting it together on the day. Trey’s been consistent all season since indoors. I was blown away by this race. Thanks for covering it. The hurdles don’t get enough love.
I felt like he could have done this Indoors he ran a 7.38 I say 12.94 but who will chase him like Daniel Roberts chased Grant Holloway.
I ran with a kid who held the world junior record 25 years ago. Broke Colin Jackson’s junior record but got injured. I haven’t seen a hurdler near the level of Matthew Clements until now. This kid has peaked too early this year, but I expect him to dominate his category for the following two years leading to a world record and Olympic gold medal. Mark my words. What I just witnessed in this video is phenomenal. He glides like no other. Only Clements did the same.
I was there for that race and every event leading in was running slower because of the conditions (with exception of Fahnbulleh's insane 19.85 200). What Trey did was absolutely phenomenal! So smooth and clean. I couldn't believe the time, so fast!
His stride over the hurdles is silky smooth, watch the body control, it almost looks like he'd be faster with hurdles instead of a reg sprint. He's amazing..
I hurdled and how smooth he is, is jaw dropping. He will certainly break 13.00, weather permitting.
One of the cleanest hurdling I've ever seen in 30 years time wow!
Have you ever seen Ed Moses run, honest I'm sure you have but if you've never seen him check his record over 400.
@@kojack7425 he is a legend :)
@@tamasbrenyo1348 did you compete or were you familiar with the youth world circuit about 28 years ago….Matthew Clements? Reminds me of him.
He is absolutely beautiful to watch. So clean. Looks effortless.
@@thewackywizard2049 unfortunately not, I can mostly recall adult performances. What can you tell about him?
Can’t say I agree with the what-if part here. Hurdles is not all about raw speed. I’d suggest his stride length, speed, and mental game were suited perfectly to this headwind so he could run absolutely all out and be in perfect position for each hurdle. Throw in a 2.0 wind and he’d have to chop steps, may trip over a hurdle, or have a lead so huge he overthinks it and makes an error. The race is the race. It’s a great indicator for the future but wind conversion times for hurdles are close to meaningless.
I have seen his workouts with the Gators and I knew he was special. Wishing him all the best for the future
He looks amazing coming off the hurdle...pure power in that first step. Very consistent going over each hurdle....wow!
Yes, the way he stamps down that lead foot is sharp and gives him great forward momentum. His hurdling is clean as a whistle.
You never believe what you see bro😂
He's had multiple heart attacks at this point💀
@@Adam-de8yi The world, too, apparently.
😂😂😂
WHEN WILL HE BELIEVE!?
Until it comes to Ingebrigsten or Boiling
Cunningham's time actually comes out to 12.93 (12.927 to be precise) when adjusting and correcting for wind from -1.5 m/s to 0.0 m/s AND Altitude at +235 meters (771 ft). INCREDIBLE nevertheless! I will be VERY surprised if Grant Holloway's NCAA 110m hurdles record of 12.98 isn't broken by this young man by the time of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Finals in June.
How about if his time is adjusted to the maximum allowable trailing wind of 2.0 m/s? 12.76 sec.?
@@orwellknew9112 His adjusted time with a maximum allowable legal wind of +2.0 m/s and altitude being constant in this case @ + 235 meters would come to 12.78 secs.
Lot of people burning up the tracks. Trey is a beast. In the wind and the track wet dude still destroyed the field and the track. Was fun to watch. Great video
white people doing good too these days dang
thanks for making a track and field fan out of me. this channel is amazing
Congratulations to Trey Cunningham on Winning His Race!
Nice Work By Total Running Productions!
Respect 🔥🔥🔥, this season has been crazy, only right we see this and more to come.
With such a fast time in this event, I think he can run sub 13 s on a dry track with better wind. 12.95 s don't seem impossibly.
I said 12.96
A great future for the young guns coming, that last guy Tre, the hurdler, he's going to be good. A world record holder in the waiting.
I’m usually a little conservative in my predictions, but I’m taking a gamble here. I think he’s going to take the collegiate record this season. 12.97
A truly impressive performance. The man certainly is an exceptional talent and at his age the sky is the limit. Regards from South Africa.
I missed that Julien Alfred race, that's a pretty crazy; 10.80! But COMPLETE props to Trey Cunningham!! I'd love to see him vs Sasha Zhoya at some point in the future, they both have that hurdles hunger
Zhoya hasn't run the big boy hurdles yet.
@@yennox5338 Right, but even at that hurdles height, Trey's PB was 13.35 in 2017. I can't discount Zhoya's 12.72, that is still a beastly time.
He’s not just a little faster; he destroys fields in such a short distance! Plus he’s adorable. Just sayin.☺️
Weak fields….
@@user-vm9hh2se7s Pretty sure 13.07 doesn’t give a sh*t what field it’s timed against.😆. You sound jealous and educated regarding the world of hurdling.
His upcoming NCAA championship win should be one of the easiest in history!
its rare to see an athlete with such distance advantage at the end of such a short race . Phenomenal talent
Nope lsu and Michigan have great athletes that are pretty close
When?
keep up the titles mate... they really got me hooked back into track and field news. awesome video as well
Great to see him running hard through the finish line.
Love your updates Great voice and so professional
I feel like tail wind can hurt just as much as head wind for hurdles. For the flat sprints best conditions are tail wind but for hurdles i feel like best conditions are no wind. This is just me though
That or a very slight tailwind
Years back when I ran the Hurdles, I always found that breaking wind always gave a better streak on the track.
Love your youtube channel. Amazing how you get so much footage and put it in such a succinct summary. While I love letsrun, etc its so nice to finally have some videos available around the world. So much of the US footage is blocked while living overseas. This is amazing.
I watched Colin Jackson break the hurdles WR live back in the day. It was the best 110 metres I had ever seen until today. 13.07 in the wet, with a headwind, fairly early into season... bonkers.
I can never watch a 110 without silently in my head saying " 1 2 3 KICK... 1 2 3 KICK..."
Keep up the good work I watch you every day.
the Kansas highschool track state this year was crazy so many records broken and someone even ran a 10.45 (I think) in the 100m
I ran against Trey in highschool hand’s down fastest person I’ve ever seen on the track. He won everything by a crazy distance
Hes super fast. Deserves the attention hes getting. Negative wind, wet tracks, etc. Incredible
The world record may be in reach for this young man in the future.
Grant is gonna break it before he gets the chance
Go Trey!!!! take it all the way to gold brother!!
For tall hurdlers with great flat speed a head wind is not a major problem, besides that Trey Cunningham is yet another legitimate gold medal contender in this year’s world championships.
This is the type of weather distance runners love!!!!!!
The tracks are better, the shoes are better, the training is better, and the drugs are better. So stoked for this year's world championships!!!
yall cant let us be greatt hahah we taking over track :p
@@AD-sp5cv Not the shot put, discus, pole vault, fill in the blanks, and not the 400 hurdles. Here's how old I am: I thought Edwin Moses record would stand close to forever. Lots of top sprinters -- there's juice in all the world's pro sports -- have been popped for PED's. Ever notice how many of them reach their peak for the World Championships or Olympics? Is your "yall" authentic, meaning you're from the south. Jesse Owens ran on cinder tracks, with no starting blocks. Sprinters would dig two little holes in the track to give their feet some support. Owens would be great today with the shoes and track surfaces. Whatever the material, some tracks are known to produce faster times. Get over yourself as whites aren't fretting about black individuals being great. Your cynicism and anger will still exist even if all track and field athletes were black. Then, you'd say, "We're better than everybody, but we're not racists."
@@michaelmisczuk1188 I'm talking about white people doing good these days Lol.
Wet tracks today are honestly phenomenal to run on.
happy for trey he was amazing and high school and always solid in college he just got stuck in the shadow of the Grant hollway
He could speedily & easily adjust when he gonna jump the hurdle, amazing
That Man can run!🏃
He will soon be the record holder.
He is a beast!
Aries M. from Knox, Tn.
He was a coach when I ran for Knoxville Track Club.. I didn’t run hurdles but Won Nationals twice in the 4x1…
865 💪🏾
Wow his technique is just silly. All of them are amazing but his form/speed/technique is crazy!
This time of sub 13 is beyond perfection!!!
Tracks with more rubberized finishes always seem to run faster when they are damp, less surface adhesion. Evening races usually have slightly lower temperatures also seem to help.
He should run into the 12’s. Probably faster than the NCAA record time.
Ta for showing Trey hurdle races,an beaut to see Bendarek back racing
This guy is amazing born on August 26 on my 36 birthday
This guy is cold!
Steady Mobbin
outstanding performance under such conditions
is timming on jumping is amazing.
Legit amazing performance
Love your videos
Would love to see a video done on Julien Alfred, her story is quite an interesting one ☝️ promising athlete indeed
I wish there was a 4x 100 in hurdles ...........a relay around the track would be very exciting I think ......... maybe a 4x 400 hurdles relay also ..
Also, Sasha Zoya is the only male athlete to ever run SUB 12.80 in the 110 m hurdles, setting the Junior world record of 12.72 secs. at the 2021 World U20 Championships in Nairobi Kenya on 21 August 2021. As you know, however, those barriers were set at the Junior standard of 39 inches rather than the International standard of 42 inches.
As dynamic like a chetaa, marvelous 💕
Young man looking real good.
i called this a year ago. when you have athletes that went 2 years with no competition and no anti doping controls it was almost certain that they would go fkin overboard on the hot sauce. you can see it across all sports where coming out of the lockdowns and paused sport all top level athletes are way ahead of where they were before, this can be seen noticeably in cycling and track and field . i expect all world records to fall this year .
He could become the greatest hurdler ever .
Thanks for the coverage on this.
0:14 yeah it was a challenge just to keep up with your videos! I can’t believe how quickly you’re popping out content
Can’t adjust for wind like that in the hurdles. Speeds are slower, timing changes etc. Still awesome race!
He can do it if he trains and remains single mindedly focused. Avoid any toxic substances in body, reduce carbohydrates and avoid cannabis derivatives that make false claims to healing muscle fatigue.
He didn't shock me. I knew what was going to happen after reading the title.
Holey buckets. That dude is insane!
Good to see my melanin-disadvantaged 🙂 👍 athletes do well in the sprint events in track and field.
This channel will have you believe the great white hopes are dominating the world. Come worlds, you'll be hit with reality and will unfortunately be left looking confused. Trps hype trains fault, not yours
Trey Cunningham will run a 12.78
Just going out on a limb "12.55"
That man is an expert
Total Running Productions I think TC will drop a NEW NCAA RECORD OF 12.96
Temperatures in Eugene look perfect for the NCAA Track finals. Records to be broken.
Yes. 12.99 NCCA
Worlds 5th PR. 12.96
It’s not just the actual time though-look at the margin of victory (both time and distance) as well…!
Trey all the way
faster than all these N . its a win for sure..
None of those guys he was running with seem to want to give him a high-five for a good performance gee I wonder why that is
Trey is definitely elite
good job
Insane. These kids are running Olympic Final times!
you dont adjust for times when its windy in the 100m hurdles
Why not?
@@MrSupplementScene cos the 100m hurdle athletes say that, when you have a following wind it can actually push you onto the hurdles, making it harder to judge hurdles, perhaps a slight head wind will help you give you more room to judge hurdles.
@@tahiribnmohammad5410 Cheers Tahir, he was perfect in technique there, so as you say, perhaps the headwind helps this. Still if he get the timing right with no wind or a 2.0 perhaps he goes faster, hard to say. I remember Colin Jackson went under the world record with high tale winds that made it illegal, so this was probably more impressive than I realised at the time given what you said
craziest May ever in Athletics
Dope show and they are ALL star's, competition sports are DEAD PERIOD!!!!
Although, you are for the most part accurate, it is hilarious that you have been recently starting almost every video with , either.."shocking...or I can't believe! " lol
its the fever for the World champs approaching on Us soil - it does not happen often .
It's funny, because every time he uses those words, they rarely apply
He will win
NCAA finals 1st and bea new world record ",in the rain", against the wind.
Incredible time in horrible conditions.
He peaked to early this season I bet he wins the championship this year with a 13.20
He's rapid, that was some margin.
Completely unrelated to this video but are you Summoning Salt as well!?
Talk about how poor that Mens 100m was yesterday. Oblique bout to smoke them all at WC.
Oblique who ? never heard of .....
Met him 3 days ago🤘🏾
My man could have also mentioned that Aries Merritt would have also run 12.68 sec, had his original time (12.80 sec / +0.3 m/s wind) been stretched to account for a 2.0 m/s wind. Normalized for a 0.0 m/s wind, Cunnigham comes at 12.91 m/s, and Merritt comes at 12.83 m/s. Not exactly close in sprinting terms!
