@@slurp3194 Shotguns dont have as big a spread as in videogames, if that is your only reference. A decent 12 gauge should hit with buckshot with good accuracy (well as good as you are) at 25-30 yards, and if your house/yard is too big for that to be good enough you should probably move.
Also an AR has similar penetration issue, a;though inconsistently, if not using hollow points. If you arent gonna use a shotgun for home defense then use hollow points, less penetration means less lawsuits from angry neighbors.

And I definitely wouldnt advise to go outside through the front door in this situation. But rather shoot from the second floor so the angle of the shots would go down to the street and u dont have to worry about over penetration with ars.
