Weirdly enough for me, it was Cars. Not only did the game have a whole open world, but the story actually served as a continuation of the first movie.
Race-O-Rama was the best out of those
The original 3 cars games were great man, those were my childhood
Slow
Ride
I need to find that game
For me it was disneys hercules, pink panther and dexter's laboratory
The Barnyard game is BY FAR the best movie-based game ever. While most developers just create repetitive platformers, this game is literally an entire open-world RPG where u create your own character, travel around the map with a day-night cycle completing all sorts of missions, play mini games, and upgrade different game mechanics
Actual facts
Bro, that game slaps, I love it
Um lord of the rings
It’s crazy how much effort went into games back then compared to today
@@leviticuscornwall9631 not rlly
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game is the best movie-based game. Honestly should be a crime no one talked about it. It was basically Battle for Bikini Bottom 2.
I agree that game was legitimately fun af
Okay but Joey's impression of the Underminer was actually so good 💀
I was just thinking that
“I’ve always lived beneath you, but NOTHING is beneath meeeee!”
the American accent really came out of him
@@TheFoxClawsI know that line is a joke but the more I think of it the colder it sounds
The Madagascar game in the thumbnail was always super fun when I was a kid especially the penguins missions😂
Bro the penguin missions were so fun lol
Legit a core memory for me 😂
I loved the arcade machines in the New York City level with the dogfight game.
This just brought back all the Memories of playing it.
I never played the game but I would watch ONLY the penguin missions on CZcams cuz I was OBSESSED with those penguins
The lord of the rings games that came out for ps2 and gamecube are my personal favorite.
i only played return of the king but damn do i have good memories of playing countless hours with a friend co-op on ps2 back in middle school
Those games were sick. The counters were sick, and Gandalf shot fire balls that never happened in the movie XD
I absolutely love Movie based Games! My favorite ones are:
- The Incredibles
- Spider-Man 2
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Peter Jackson’s King Kong
- Kung Fu Panda
- Star Wars - Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban
- Iron Man
- Ratatouille
Spider-Man 2 had one of, if not the best movie based video game ever. Played and replayed that game to death.
Facts
Truth
Fair. Such a good tie in, that I forget it was a tie in.
Bro u forgot the first 3 Harry Potter games. Especially chamber of secrets
Fax
I remember playing Madagascar as a child and I had a lot of fun. But back then I thought it was hard, though I'm probably just bad at the game. That shuffleboard minigame was fun too.
I will defend the Over the Hedge game with my life! It's really fun controlling different characters from the movie and using different weapons (the ball gun was my fav). It's even a sort-of sequel to the movie!
Shrek 2, Cars and Spider-Man 2 (CONSOLE VERSION) are also really good!
And I don't know if the Toy Story 3 game on PSP had good reviews but I really enjoyed it.
The first 3 Harry Potter games were so much fun growing up. Open world where you learn spells and fight monsters. Prisoner of Azkaban was my most replayed game for the collectibles alone, plus the Hippogriff time trials.
You always get stuck on the final one where you need one or two more rings
I can't figure out how to use the GBA link and owl cate kit
Ghost Rider had an amazing tie-in game on the ps2
It was like DMC and a pinch of OG God of War. Granted it didn’t have same amount of mechanical depth as those others but you could still pull of some sick moves on there.
Very fun game.
Also, the first Spongbob movie game was fantastic, and Spider-Man 2 was sick too.
facts bro like the ghost rider one was so fun..i played and finished like twice now
i don't understand the hate the game gets..especially the movie
The "over the hedge" DVD had 2 GAMES, I would spend like hours playing that shit
I remember the one where you have to guide Hammy through the laser grid, but what was the second one?
Man, the DS game where you steal food? SO addictive. The ps2 game was about using golf clubs mostly
@@sonicsaiyan07 It was some point scoring thing where you threw an acorn. Looking back it's really not that exciting but I guess I didn't have anything else to do last time
Personally, the early Cars games on PS2 was super fun it made me actually get better at racing games while making it fun! the madagascar game i forgot about but it had some fun levels!
Scooby-Doo: Cyber Chase (PS1) was one of the of the best games I played when I was younger. Surprised it didn’t get mentioned.
Also shout out to Garnt for reminding me of the Toy Story 2 game!! That had been lost in the memory vault.
god that scooby doo game made me rip out my hair as a kid
@@maherlicous9706 yeah I don't think I ever beat it
I remember spending the night at my cousin's house watching him try to play the game. The disk was scratched so the game kept crashing.
Definitely Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis for me. Hands down one of the best tycoon game ever made and the modding community is still going strong❤
The Madagascar and shrek 2 gamecube games were SO GOOD! They did not need to go as hard as they did. Now I'm gonna go see if I can find them and play them on my wii haha.
The Madagascar game is a pretty fun game, definitely a childhood classic for me
It such a fun game to introduce to kids who haven't played a videogame in their life. Right up their with the lego games
6:31 is where the conversation about licensed movie games starts
Peter Jackson’s King Kong had a pretty good game. Apparently the PC port was poorly done, but I had a great terrified time on the original Xbox
facts
Yes!!!
The movie games I remember playing on PS1 were Hercules, Mulan, Emperor's New Groove, Harry Potter, Toy Story, Tarzan, and Monsters Inc.
Mulan actually taught me how to play mahjong at like 9 years old. Monsters Inc was fun because you had to collect screams in each level. Hercules and Harry Potter will always have a special place in my heart.
Batman Begins. The game was incredible! It paved the way for the Arkham series. The Batmobille sequences were amazing and the fear mechanic was so innovative!
Spiderman 2, X-Men Origins Wolverine, and The Mummy Demake are all amazing games.
y'all know that Tom and Jerry fighting game on the PS2? That was so fucking fun my cousins and neighbors used to play it.
Yesss
Menu really bad but gameplay was stupid fun
you mean war of whiskers?
Great game
Most lego games too i think the first lego star wars games for ps2 was awesome!
Over the Hedge for PS2 had an awesome multi-player. The golf cart racing was so fun
Spider-Man 2 was probably one of the best movie based games ever. Toby even voice acted for that game which was awesome.
Episode III ROTS is still my favourite movie tie in game. It was actually really fkin good. Lightsaber duels have never felt that good in a video game.
I actually came to the comment section specifically to see if someone brought that game up
Jackson's king Kong, the lord of the rings games and Shrek 2 for PS2 and GameCube were awesome
The middle earth games are the best movie licensed games in my opinion.
does it count? i would count the ones that cover the story of the film
@@bandi642 not in the context of this video but it goes so in depth on the lore that it feels like a true LOTR video game even if you’re not playing something directly from the movie.
@@bandi642 Well it depends on how you interpret the question. Movie licensed games that are based off the actual movie? The answer would be Spider-man 2 and Golden-Eye. Games that based off movie properties? There are plenty, mostly Star Wars but yeah there are others.
I loved the godfather Game.. also the Kung fu panda game
KUNG FU PANDA was so good
The godfather 1 and 2 we're two of my favorite games of all time and I'm still waiting for them to be backwards compatible
Curious as to what the Kung Fu Panda game was like on the bigger consoles. Only played the DS version (through a rom card I was given :P) and that was pretty good for a handheld movie game.
@@TheAquilaSamurai I had the DS version as well, was that game really hard or was it just me?
Because they were released on practically every console/system out at the time, some of the movie based games varied in quality depending on which console you got it on. I think the main difference between whether it was tv or handheld console, where they were pretty much completely different games instead of just ports. Cars for 360 was so different to Cars for the DS :P
Oh god I have this one memory from more than a decade or so ago when I sat on the tv remote, the screen went black and I panicked, and then some random ass, 80's looking platforming game booted up, directly on my tv, and I just started playing it until my parents came back to the living room. Or maybe my dad was there, I was like 6 or 7 so I don't really remember. I just remember that I was very confused, but it was entertaining.
Return of the king and Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay were fantastic games
I remember fondly the Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole game on the xbox 360.
I also vividly remember playing the Tarzan game on the PC and it being fucking dark; when you fall to your death as kid Tarzan, you cut to a full-black scene, you see him hit the ground, his lifeless body splayed flat, limp when a monkey stops by to investigate, all while his dead eyes open wide staring up.
Spiderman 2 and King Kong are legendary movie games imo
The Madagascar, Hercules and cars games were goated
Goldeneye. Easy.
I don't know if it's just me but I loved playing the Madagascar 2 game. It was like an open world game with levels and every character had its own unique abilities. Really fun.
I rented that Madagascar game and left my PS2 on for like a week so I could keep playing after taking the disc out and return it. I remember getting really frustrated with the giraffe in the city level. Still loved it
To this day, I still say the audio commentary for the English dub of Puni Puni Poemi anime OVA is one of the best EVER!
Toy Story 2 for the ps1 was such a banger
brother bear had the commentary track - done in character - by the two comic release moose. it was amazing.
One of my favorite movie tie-in games was the Chronicles of Narnia for PS2. I bought this game in a bargain bin at Toys R Us some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. 🙂
6:38 WHAT
That might be the _best_ movie tie-in game
A Bugs Life on PS1 I remember being fun although I haven't played or seen a video of it in maybe 20 years.
Also Scarface: The world is yours may be the best movie based game or probably doesn't count since it's technically a sequel.
I played Wall-E on the Wii and DS, and both of those games were surprisingly fun./
Jet Li Rise to Honor for PS2 was fun as hell. It wasn't a movie based game but it felt like a Jet Li movie.
Spiderman 2 is probably the most significant movie game as it has influenced almost every Spiderman game that has come after it. Marvel's Spiderman being the ultimate refinement of it. Jurassic Park on the SNES is probably my personal favourite though.
The Spongbob Squarepants Movie game was amazing; I still have not unlocked everything. Also the only commentary I have listened to is the South Park commentary for all the DVDs.
Disney games were my childhood: Hercules, Tarzan, Toy Story 2 (with Buzz), WALL-E, Meet the Robinson, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Atlantis, Aladdin.
Probably Aladdin on Sega Genesis for me. Decades later and I'm still blown away by the beauty and visuals of that game.
Shout out to Garnt for mentioning Jedi Power Battles, that game was fucking brutal but so, so good.
Tried playing it again a couple of years ago... The first level absolutely pushes my shit in
The transformers games for the first 3 movies went hard. For a movie game, they were amazing
The console one was challenging but I liked our character in ds one
@@matthew_natividad Yeah. I agree. I played the first one 3 times. Its amazing that they created a open world game for the ds
I remember playing the Kung Fu Panda game for xbox 360 and that slapped hard
Ratatouille for PS2 is a banger.
agreed!
4:55 That's some good content for the no context clippers
It’s official, I’ll never forgive Connor for not liking the PS2 Over the Hedge game. I used to play the bumber cars game mode with my friend for hours.
16:18 that skateboard game looks awfully familiar and i think I played the game as a kid
Meet the Robinsons on game cube slapped
Also the kung fu panda game that came with the 360 along w Lego Indiana Jones was ahead of its time
My man, Joey. Ice Age 1 is a masterpiece indeed.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine on the Xbox 360/PS3 was such a banger.
That's crazy. I legit can't think of a good one
Scott Pilgrim vs The World might be one of the best beat-em-ups in recent memory. My fav movie tie in game of all time
That game looked amazing considering the amount of struggle the developers had to do to make this game
Sucks that doesn’t have a physical copy
@@matthew_natividad It did for a little while
@@Corunna24 I never saw any
Happy Feet on the DS was my first ever rhythm game
Shrek 2, small soldiers, monster house, bugs life, Antz, Wolverine origins,King Kong, AVP, Harry Potter, LOTR, POTC,
I thought the dreamworks were alright; Over the Hedge, How to Train Your Dragon (DS version), Kung Fu Panda, and Shrek 2
I loved that Madagascar game
The simpsons movie tie in game is very underrated IMO. When it comes to the simpsons people always talk about hit and run and road rage but the movie game was great too I thought
lion king dvd had the cool safari choose your path game.
As a kid I had the double pack of toy story two, and me and my brother lost the first disc, so we were stuck with the second disc of the bonus features so we watched that like 20 times.
Chicken Little on PlayStation 2 was a Banger
Monster house game and Toy story 2 were definitely peak tier movie-based ps2 games
I like the Monster House game.
They were talking about good movie tie in games but didn't mention mad max
They recently changed it so you don't need to use a facebook account anymore on the Quest. You can make a new Meta account with little personal information instead.
I remember playing the King Fu Panda game on the DS and it was pretty solid
Idk if it counts but all the licenced LEGO games were amazing, specially when playing with a friend.
What you guys are missing is that The meta quest 2 is already "Mainstream" it outsold the xbox last year (Im talking about where they talk about VR)
Ngl the only like movie video game I actually remember enjoying whenever I was a kid was the Surfs Up one on the DS cause it was basically like a cross between Mario Kart and Tony Hawk Pro Skater, from wht I remembered and I actually remember quite enjoying it, however practically any other movie video game, I actually hated whenever I was little.
SpongeBob SquarePants movie game from mid 2000s was the GOAT
Over the Hedge and Shrek 2.
The only two movie tie in games I’ve played in my life is the Bee Movie game on PS1 and the Enchanted game on Nintendo DS
I remember playing the Finding Nemo game, and the SpongeBob Squarepants movie game
I don't remember if they were good, cus I played them once and I was a kid
I completely forgot that I used to play that Nemo game too. Played it like 4-5 times back then.
Brings back so much memories...
For me, Peter Jackson's King Kong, besides the Kong controls being janky as hell at points, the FPS/POV of Jack was so goddamn good!
Transformers rotf/ dotm were my fave console games with characters you don’t see on film along with the story with dotm n ds which were both fun in their own rights
A Bug's Life for the PS1 is a phenomenal platformer!
Shrek 2 the video game is hands down the best DreamWorks video game there is
"It's Hero Time!" Don't think I ever finished that game because I could never beat the point where you need to save Snow White. Fairy Godmother started to seriously piss me off :P
@@TheAquilaSamurai played with friends so made it easier it's a great Co-op game
Glad you guys mentioned Hercules! It remains a pretty good game!
Had Sherk 2 on the PS2 and I remember the Pus in Boots boss fight and loving it
I remember the Cars and Wall E tie-in games. I also played the shit out of the first Transformers movie game as well.
Shrek 2 on gamecube was actually great, my sister and I had tons of fun playing it when we were younger!
The first 3 Harry Potter games were pretty fun so were Spider-Man games based on the movies were, the first cars game was my favorite racing game as a kid
Sherk 2 for the gamecube was pretty gud
Spy Kids 3D had a game in the dvd based on the racing game in the movie!
Kung Fu Panda had a good game
For me the Peter Jackson King Kong movie game was the best. Shit was legitimately a fun experience the whole way through
The Speed Racer ps2 racing game is the greatest movie tie in.
Was there even a story in that game?
I used to love getting the demo PS1 games from McDonalds 😂 I remember playing The Jungle Book Grove Party also
Title should be either "What are the BEST Movie Based Games??" or "What is the BEST Movie Based Game??"
Y'all never mentioned Goldeneye 007? That was a movie tie-in game
