I like your DIY build for the toilet! I plan way ahead for later in life and I lean towards a DIY option but keys for me are to prevent odors, and then above all else prevent spillage of any kind so I'd work hard for that. I think it's possible to use a jug like others have for urine: detergent jug. I'd have a secure container to ensure no movement and remove it from the container for emptying. I'd use a 5 gallon compost bucket secured in a frame on the floor, but also I'd unseal / seal it's original lid each time of use.
As a horsewoman, here's a thought: horse water buckets have one flat side to them, for resting flat against the side of the stall. They are 5 gallon buckets. Wondering if you could use that, with that flat edge facing the front, to work around the urine diverter?? Check out a farm supply store!
yeh that might work too. The regular 5 gallon buckets are too tall to be under a seat but the one i used that's a little smaller than 5 worked out great.
Absolutely brilliant idea for the pee...
A good way to get rid of both one and two is using a couple scoops of cat litter in a good bag wrapped around a 5 gallon bucket using a cheap camping toilet stool. Then just wrap it and dispose of it. The cat litter absorbs the liquid and helps with the order.
Yes I actually have tried this. I forgot to mention it
Thanks for all the details on this along with the other installs you are doing. Greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos.
Thanks for sharing your product links and techniques. That's a really impressive toilet system. FYI: Adding a cup of hydrogen peroxide ($1.25 plus tax for 32 oz at a Dollar Tree store) to the urine catch system after each fluid dump really helps eliminate odors until the next time you can get to a dump station. :)
Yeh I usually poor a little bleach down the drain then a cup of water after each use. Works great
I'm planning my build now, and you've given me some ideas. When backpacking, I keep a Gatorade pee bottle handy so I don't have to leave my tent at night. I'm a guy traveling solo, but as a good host, I'll keep a pee funnel in the toilet box to pee into a jug instead of a diverter. It's easy to dump pee somewhere along the way. I'm going to put an actual toilet seat on a box with a 5-gallon bucket in it. I'm also trying to work out an outer shell that can be pulled out to sit on or use as a footstool.
Ever think of using a 35 lb tidy cat litter bucket
Not right meow
I didn’t get the name of this diverter seat? Thanks so much
Here it is, Separett Urine Separating Toilet Kit- amzn.to/3B1aUgR
Cassette toilet all the way - simple and easy. Every van in Europe has one. Other than that - Camco toilet bucket. Don't really see your issues about cassette toilets, but I'm not a girl.
Love you videos. I'm building my own van and have followed many of your videos. I really like electronic controlled valves, just connect hose to them and into dump station. I run and mixture of bleach and water through at end and lines are all cleaned!
Oh, how many feet of PVC pipe did you use and how many gallons do you thing it will hold?
not sure the length, it holds quite a bit of liquid though, I dumped a bunch of those large glasses of water down it and it still wasnt full. I'll have to test it until its completely full when i get a chance. Thanks for watching.
Without much of a "stack" on your air vent it'll be interesting to know if you get pee sloshing out, not to mention the smell and insects it'll attract around the outside perimeter of the van....
A couple of hot summer days in a row will flesh that out.... Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the innovation and videos
The idea isn’t to leave the tank full long term. It’s to be able to pee over night and then go somewhere to drain it in the morning and maybe pour some bleach and water down the drain to flush it out.
Among other things that make this a terrible idea!
What is the name of the kit
This is it amzn.to/3B1aUgR
After watching all of the options, i'll take a cassette toilet any day.
Not sure how you can call this sanitary or grey water. Not sure if it’s illegal but it aught to be. Handy for you but unbelievably inconsiderate for everyone else. I would rank this as disgusting as anything else you reviewed.
Ok but why are you assuming I’m going to drain it somewhere inappropriate?
@@BuildingVanLife well, tell me where it would be appropriate to dump human waste out the bottom of your van? At a campsite? No. Down the road? No. In a parking lot? No. Please tell me where. You didn’t mention anything about a hose and a dump station.
@@michaeljuers574 it’s a 3/4 valve on the bottom to connect for the purpose of connecting to a hose. That’s why I mentioned I’m not using the 1/2 inch valve this time. And yes it is appropriate to dump any any dump station. They are all over the place. I didn’t realize I need to I need to tell you everything I’m doing.
@@BuildingVanLife So…you’re telling me…you’re going to shimmy under the van and hook up a hose at a dump station to dump this thing? Ya right! I’ve been to enough dump stations and I’ll tell ya the last place I’d want to be laying on my back crawling under a van trying to get a garden hose screwed onto a fitting in is on the concrete of a dump station. About the time I’d be under there your overflow fitting would be dripping on my face🤬
Sorry, I believe it's rather gross to just dump urine out on the streets or onto lot you've parked at.
and how about into a container placed under the valve and then into a toilet....like it's designed
Now all the horrible people in the world can dump their piss in the Walmart parking lots with zero inconvenience and chance of being caught... Things like this will be the end of vanlife, eventually! :)
I’d think adding the switch to dashboard would be far more convenient and drain it driving down the road. 😊
