    Hi my name is Danielle, welcome to my True Crime and Makeup series! I’ve been interested in true crime for the longest time now, what started with me watching true crime on TV with my Nan from a young age eventually turned into studying for a degree in Law & Criminology.
    When I first watched Bailey Sarian’s series I was completely hooked, I loved how she had combined two of the things I’m most passionate about and delivered it so well. She totally inspired me to take the leap and do the same thing on my channel, so all credit for the idea goes 100% to her.
    I’m from the UK and will be covering cases from both the UK and internationally, let me know if there are any cases that you’d like to see from me! More cases will be coming soon so please subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

    I'm from Russia. My older collegue used to live next to him. Nothing but how kind, intellegent, caring for animals and elders this man was. • @Nellzyknows
      @Nellzyknows Před 6 měsíci +61

      I feel incredibly sad for this man. What he done was sick and obviously inexcusable but my heart honestly breaks for him. It doesn’t mention a lot about his early days but it seems his parents weren’t the kind of parents where he felt comfortable telling them about his trauma at 12. And diagnosed schizophrenia how come that wasn’t picked up earlier? And they were gone 6 months a year when did this start? Was he left alone a lot as a child? So many people let this man down when in his head he was only doing the right thing. Yes it was wrong and Ive honestly thought long and hard about if it were my child he’d done this to, and I can’t help but think I’d forgive him. Not excuse him, but I think knowing what I know about him I’d be able to forgive to an extent. He wasn’t murderous he was just a mentally unwell person that had no one in his corner despite him seemingly being in everyone else’s corner when needed if that makes sense 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t know. This story just shook me in a whole other way and made me feel sad for him

Still he was an intellectual, very good at his studies of funeral cultures. @ANPC-pi9vu Před 7 měsíci +30

      No, I agree. It's a horribly tragic case and untreated schizophrenia is one of the most horrible things a person can have to live with. Now that there's so many treatment options with good results this guy should be given a chance to have some semblance of a normal life. He shouldn't be hated still unless he continues his behavior. People forget that while his actions hurt those families, it also completely ruined his own life on every level.

    • @ANPC-pi9vu
      @ANPC-pi9vu Před 7 měsíci +24

      @@Psytezie Good news is that nowadays there's injectable slow release medications for schizophrenia that have pretty good results. In cases like his there should just be some court ordered monitoring and documentation of him receiving his medication to keep him from going off the deep end again. Unless he's one of the rare ones that reacts badly to all the current variations of the medicines, he should be able to be reformed.

      I experienced this, but with physical health issues. One example: I ruptured a disc in my back when I was 8, my parents didn't believe me, no one believed me because "you're too young to have back problems" so I was either making it up or I was "believing Satan's lies" about my back. I couldn't get anyone to look at it until I was 35, cuz I was "too young" More adults need to realize that just because it's less common for children to have certain mental or physical health issues, that doesn't mean they can't, and very few children make up symptoms, especially mental health symptoms. Children should be treated with the same respect, compassion, and autonomy as adults.

      I live this DAILY. I always say how I'm feeling, and i also search it a lot on medical journals about psychology and what i could possibly be tending to have, informating myself. But whenever i say anything to a psychologist or psychiatrist they don't even think, and already say it's because of my age, that I'm a teenager still, that it will pass, it's not that bad or it can't be that bad cause you're very young blah blah blah. Like people only start to have feelings when they're pass 25 or smth. I thought they were the ones to know that NO MATTER THE AGE, only you know what YOU are feeling, and that you should always believe when someone open up, SPECIALLY to a supposed professional. Literally anyone knows that if the person has the luck of being able to go to a metal health professional while they're still young, the more probable this person won't get A LOT worse later. But they just ignore. Guess in all the years of studying that they passed weren't enough to know something so crucial that anyone that google it will find in the first link.

    hi, great video as always) I want to clarify something about “people in robes”. At that time, religion was prohibited in the Soviet Union, so the priests secretly performed funeral, wedding and baptism rituals at home. so those whom Anatoly saw were praying priests. It’s so awful that he was forced to kiss the girl’s forehead, but regarding the “wedding”, this is also a possible situation because at that time some believed that before death it was necessary to get married (unmarried girls could be buried in wedding dresses specifically for this purpose). 40 days can also be explained through the religious beliefs of the Orthodox about the soul transformation. I hope I clarified a little the ritual that so traumatized Anatoly as a child, but for adults who know about Orthodoxy in the Soviet Union or were born back then, it does not look so mysterious even now. thanks again for the video❤

    Hi Danielle:) Yes, abandoned grave in Russia means no one is visiting it. It is the family's responsibility to visit the grave regularly, clean it , maintain it, do the weeds, plant flowers etc. So you can always tell abandoned graves as no one looks after them and the headstones start to collapse and grave gets overgrown. In terms of quantity of graves at a graveyard, it would of course depend on the city etc but as an example Vagankovskoe graveyard in Moscow has approx 500,000 graves just on it's own.

    You’re not crazy for liking graveyards. My Mom, Aunt and I visited a (sad part ahead) children’s Spanish flu, polio, measles section from the 1910 - 1930. It was hidden in a patch of trees bc it was too sad for others to have to view them.
    Well, we went there looking for a member of our family for genealogy. It was very still and kinda sad. We walked around reading the names and said little prayers for all of them.
    All of the sudden a gentle breeze came through and the leaves started being “thrown” in the air, almost like children playing with them. They were swirling around landing on our heads and this incredible peace came over the whole area. I don’t like to say it, but we felt there was so much joy there. “They” we’re happy to be remembered. It was a beautiful moment.

  • @marisazabala2596
    @marisazabala2596 Před 5 měsíci +18

    This may be sick, but it was also a response to very deep grief. I feel so much for the families of these children. It's so unfair to them to not only lose their children, but to also have their last resting place desecrated, to lose the last of what was physicaly left of them. To know that their daughters did not get to rest in peace. That part is unforgivable. However, I also feel for Anatoli. This may well have felt to him like the only place he could express his love that it would not be rejected. You often hear of men sexually assaulting bodies in these kinds of cases, but I have a feeling that he would actually be repulsed by this. Possibly repulsed by sex in general. The whole situation is profoundly heartbreaking. Imagine what kind of person he could have been had he not been so traumatized early on. He showed more personal investment of time and energy caring for the dead children of others than I often see many parents do for their own living ones. Maybe I'm fucked up for saying all this, but it's just how my mind is processing this situation. It is a massive undertaking to process devastating trauma with a mind that evolved primarily to eat berries in a cave without becoming psychologically disturbed in some way. It can take years of professional help to even recognize we have an issue that needs help. People who are isolated have very little hope of getting through it in a healthy way, no matter how smart they are.

    I agree this is a refreshing case where there is no direct murder or sexual assault. The horror of walking into a house where human corpses have been turned into “dolls” is much different than SA or murder, but still no less sad or disturbing. I also agree, walking through a cemetery can be a calming experience. If you need fresh air and nature, but still need to cry or process heavy emotion, a cemetery is a great place to do that. It’s like, if you’re sad, the spirits will gather around and offer you comfort, and there’s something about thinking about other people’s lives that puts your own into perspective.

If Anatoli had collected thousand year old mummies, would so many still say he needs to be locked up forever or put to death? His motivation wasn't for novelty or shock factor... he was sad, lonely, and is mentally ill. There were voices only he could hear, and the girls gave those voices physical manifestations. This poor man seems to have struggled with extreme loneliness all of his life, and, at no point did they think to get him mental help (from a good doctor who could provide therapy, rather than just telling him to drink tea.) They never thought it odd that their son didn't have friends?? This was a very sad cry for help. When their son said he wanted to adopt a child, he was CLEARLY asking for help. yeah, it feels really different from the cases where people are obviously in it to do harm, to see people get hurt, to feel in control of other people's lives..... he didn't seem to have a cruel motive in any way
      obviously what he did was wrong but he didn't kill any girls and turn them into "dolls", he wanted them to live longer and he remembered their birthdays and tried to take care of them (whatever that meant to him)
      he wasn't hitting them or being sexual (as far as i know) with them or posing them in degrading ways, he was very mentally ill and thought he was taking care of them like a parent should... he wasn't, as far as i can tell, being malicious
      of course his actions hurt the families and community, but he didn't do it TO hurt them.. he thought he was helping those little girls who died
      it just feels so different from a serial killer who killed little girls or something, because he wasn't trying to do harm to them and they were already dead...where a killer would be doing it for a thrill or for sexual reasons or whatever else, they wouldn't be doing it to try to take care of them (unless they're also severely mentally ill and think they're helping in some way)
      in the cases where the victims are already dead, it's kind of confusing because on one hand, it's awful and they're still victims
      on the other, they're already dead so at least he wasn't killing people

    What they did to him with Natasha was interesting, like you said about how some cultures do things like that. My grandmother has told me and my brothers that in parts of China and Taiwan, there are some beliefs that a female can turn to a ghost or something of that sort that would be vengeful if they die when they are single. Some people will go to lengths to try to marry their dead unmarried daughters to young men who are alive and single without them knowing. Many young foreign men are advised not to pick up red envelopes with money in them that may be found randomly on the floor. They call them ghost marriages. The families of the dead girl will put a picture of her with her lock of hair in the envelope, and if a man picks it up the family sees it as fate and that man is forced into a marriage with the dead daughter. His experience with Natasha reminds me of this.

    What he did to those parents and those poor deceased little girls' bodies is beyond despicable. I'm relieved he didn't additionally SA'd those corpses, but honestly all those things that he did to them (stuffing with music boxes????) is just so sick and twisted by itself, it's unbelievable. I can't even imagine what the families must've felt after discovering what fate befell their children after they died...

  • @AlexandraVOA
    @AlexandraVOA Před 7 měsíci +12

    I know some people are insanely disturbed by this, and I mean yea it is wrong and disturbing but nothing like a person who harms living people. He had no intention of harm, and he was respectful of the bodies as far as not in anyway hurting them (the heads that fell off he replaced but he didn’t dismember them…the music boxes were additions of beauty in his mind but again not cruel towards the corpses) or treating them in sick ways. There was nothing sexual, nothing demonic, nothing ritualistic. He was just so damn lonely and no one living wanted to be with him so he found a way to not be alone without hurting a living soul. It’s sad really. Sick yes. He was ill. But he wasn’t cruel, or sexually twisted, or cruel. It’s just sad all around 😞 he had a sad life and was clearly very very sick.

      Remember that it turned out he was very schizophrenic and this all made sense to him in that condition. People under estimate just how intense schizophrenic hallucinations can be. It can be like the person is living in a whole different reality with no understanding of why it is a problem. I think he deserves some empathy given his condition and the role his childhood trauma played in shaping the forms his hallucinations and delusions took. Now that there's medications for this type of disorder that work for most sufferers, I hope he can be reformed and forgiven.

    I actually just heard about these spirit marriages, it's so the young person who passes will have someone to care for them in the afterlife. This usually happens when both parties die young or disabled & are unmarried. This tradition, thank God, is dying out because it's led to people running smuggling rings, kidnapping mostly women to be killed because families pay BIG money for freshly dead women to marry their dead male family member if they're not married before death.

I know it's hard to consider cemeteries as something other than a place filled with death but if you read some of the grave markers, older ones especially, you get a little glimpse into all these people's lives some of them were very short & some lived over 100 years. That being said, aside from someone looking for shelter I can't think of any reason why someone would consider sleeping in a graveyard.
