In today’s episode, we spend a day with SUDA51, a world renowned video game creator famous for No More Heroes, killer7 or Lollipop Chainsaw, games produced by his studio, Grasshopper Manufacture.
Our first stop is the Jingu Batting Dome, a batting center located in the heart of Tokyo, that SUDA51 visits from time to time. The batting center setting is featured in The Silver Case, SUDA51’s first game with Grasshopper Manufacture, where it is used as a secret meeting place between two detectives.
We will then visit Grasshopper Manufacture, SUDA51’s workplace where he will tell us more about his work, and the philosophy behind his studio.
For a brief lunch break, we will head to Megumi-ya, a close-by soba noodles restaurant. Megumi-ya, compared to other traditional noodles restaurants, is themed around the rock universe and plays rock music - which is quite unusual for this type of restaurant.
Later in the afternoon, SUDA51 will take a few of his colleagues for drinks to Kawakami, a restaurant nearby, where Kazuki Morishita, president of the Gung Ho group, who acquired Grasshopper Manufacture, is a regular.
Our night will end in Shinjuku Golden-Gai, famous for its narrow streets and bars, we will head to the bar plastic model (bpm), where SUDA51 is a regular. The bpm was featured in No More Heroes, and its bartender, Mr. Sekine often plays music from the game, among other of his records from the eighties.

Italian subs sent :)
@@GrandpaTheobald Thanks a lot for the contribution!
It's incredible that something being created in such a foreign place is effecting people like myself in the US.
The Game Developer episodes are my favorites! Try to get Shinji Mikami next!
Yup Mikami next please
Shinji Mikami is in Suda51's office (3:18)!
@@ArchipelDocumentaries As a…zombie?
5:13 of course he has a charles bronson dvd-box, the absolute madman!
Gochi Suda is my biological father. Please tell him his family misses him.
Well noted. We'll make sure to pass the message.
wow
? For real?
I admire Suda 51 work ethic and game design, killer 7, No more heroes, Shadows of the damned, are some of my favorite games and I’m so excited to play No more heroes 3, and he seem to be a chill and cool guy, also I want to buy that book, be safe Suda 51 and staff, good luck.
SUDA is awesome, glad they did this after SWERY
Hope you'll enjoy what's coming next too!
+toco toco tv There is huge following for Akira Yamaoka, i think fans will love that too, not to mention he is easy to talk to
Such a nice video. It's awesome how he named his company is Grasshopper Manufacture.
Also interesting were his ideas of player involvement.
Loved it.
Thank you!
Wow, what a surprise. SUDA51 is one of my favorite developers. Thanks for this.
Also, I really liked the different style of filming and editing.
Glad you liked it!
I like the LET IT DIE shirt he was wearing when playing baseball
Forever grateful for Suda. His games have given me plenty hours of joy, he’s introduced me to phenomenal music and films, and he’s shown me that you can enjoy your job and do what you want regardless of background. All while staying humble.
This was such a beautiful video. I really wish it had lasted longer. I'm just glad something like this exists.
I love Shadows of the Damned so freaking much. I just think that game fits my style perfectly. All of Grasshopper Manufactures games do.
If you like Shadows of the Damned, make sure to check out our giveaway on Twitter! twitter.com/tocotocotv
+toco toco tv Following you on youtube and replying you to win the Artbook and Sotd ost, is this enough or i have to follow on twitter?
+toco toco tv Oh yessssssssss!!! I definitely had to enter for a chance to win that! I didn't even know that artbook existed.
This was way more somber than I had expected. Really interesting.
Batting center.. I think I'll give a try when I arrive at Japan.
Daisuke next? Holy shit, where do you get all these great guests???
Stay tuned!
Excellent interview and great presentation! I love Suda's work. You can really see from this video where his daily life influences the way he creates games.
Thank you - hope you'll enjoy what's coming next too.
I love the new logo animation and more globally the new stylish direction. Really cool to see the expansion of Toco Toco as I'm watching it since the first episode broadcasted on Nolife. Awesome ! Congrats ! 👌
this guy is too cool
I was beginning to get worried since it had been a while since the last episode, so I was very excited to see a new episode in my subscription box this morning. I love the updates and renovations you made to the show, it turned out real nice!
We're back now, don't worry! Thanks for the kind word!
Looking back at this I get the impression that Suda is a little annoyed at being the "No More Heroes guy". Which would explain some things.
He's a bit too ahead of his time. No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw are really intelligent games on their own right, but to me his real peak is in his early, overtly philosophical and oddball games
can you pls explain the things?
Great interview. Great video. Thanks forma making it.
Thanks for watching!
Oh baby.
he has a devolver digital t shirt! good to see that great developers support the indie scene aswell
I really enjoyed this! Great job!
Thanks!
Beautiful video, makes me miss Japan in ways I have not in a while. Thanks.
Daisuke Ishiwatari next? You're killing me with these!!. Love you, toco toco tv.
Thanks for the love!
Protect this man at all cost
Hey guys! loving the art direction you've taken. Not that what you guys had before wasn't great, but this look is very clean. Excited to see more videos!
Best channel on japan
Thanks!
Recognized those batting cages immediately. He's got a very good sense of humor and a great devolver shirt. What more could you want. Entertaining to watch but the guy is as mysterious as ever. Seems a pattern with successful creators. Suppose there's no other way to be that comes across in anything but your work, but that's where this guy is really interesting: when he's talking about his work.
Man Suda is a lot more laidback & Down to Earth they I thought he be.
Amazing channel
Thank you
Awesome documentary, thanks.
Thank you.
Amazing video, once again! Thank you very much!🙏❤️
Thanks for watching!
with all these great guests, I wouldn't be surprised if some day you bring Eiji Aonuma or Shigeru Miyamoto x) That would be amazing if it happened
We would love to bring them on the show one day!
This video is amazing! Suda51 rocks! Mexico loves him! Viva Mexico!
Very insightful and beautiful piece
I like this thank y'all for the vid!
Really enjoyed that. Thank you.
You're welcome.
Thanks for this, very touching.
Hope you could find Haruhiko Shono 庄野 晴彦 too one day or even Osamu Sato (until he moved to alien mothership).
I Love this man 😍🤘 Suda Forever 😁
Super! Good interview! Great job!
Thank you!
subbed. I love the quality of your videos and guests too!
Thank you!
Thank you, that was beautiful
Thank you for the kind word!
Superbe reportage, merci à vous.
Merci!
You can clearly see Suda51 is a real lefty with the way he handles the baseball bat and mouse. I wonder if he plays the guitar lefthanded as well.
This is incredible!
Thank you!
No thank you. This is amazing. Subbed for more!
Uno de los grandesssss
Added spanish subtitles, working to translate all toco toco videos ;)
Thank you very much for your contribution, it means a lot to us!
@7:00
Idk why but I really like this shot here
Suda is the fucking man. just a cool dude
Huh, I"m surprised they didn't show his punk band.
Suda51 and Daisuke Ishiwtari next !!
Yes, stay tuned!
8:48 - what drink is that?
7:33 !!! DO YOU SEE IT!?!?
7:58 !!!!!!!
He's now literally Susan 51
3:17 Suda predicted the future of Metal Gear
What's this magazine?
@@johnalamo33 It was a promotion for the meet up Suda had with Mikami and Kojima where they talked about stuff
👌
NICE SAKANACTION T-SHIRT AT 7:15!!!
SUDA51 is a huge Sakanaction fan.
Nice! So am I...I have seen them live 15 times! :-D
Punkest criador que já existiu.
Can someone please tell me the music in the background around 4:15? It sounds like a remix of Akira Yamaoka's Witchcraft from Silent Hill Homecoming that I've never heard. Thanks!
Shadows of the Damned OST - The Bird's Nest
The man is carrying a purse for christ's sakes.
is that a poster or a actual comic book at 3:14 ?
What is the game starting at 3:52?
This is "Let It Die", a free-to-play game available on PS4, hope that helps!
toco toco tv wow thanks!

Hello, I'm making a little video documentary about Suda's work and I would like to ask you for permission to use some footage from your great work, If you grant me permission, I'll give you credit and place a watermark with your channel's name.
Hi, could you please throw us an email at sail[at]archipel.jp with a bit more info about your project? Thanks!
@@ArchipelDocumentaries Hello! Sure!
if you make any english translation vids i’ll definitely watch
Grasshopper hasn't made a good game in many years. I do hold out hope that SUDA51 will one day be able to make another masterpiece however.
What the fuck are you talking about? Lollipop Chainsaw was better than No More Heroes!
Despite having mediocre gameplay tsa is suda return
