There are bands that like do just pure death metal or black metal best, but Dimmu doesn't just try to be the best in 1 dimension, they combine a lot of things together, to create something epic, and it shows when people can just jump in and react to the music and get something out of it first time.

Damn, this is probably the best ICS Vortex performance there is. Goosebumps every time.

You chose a great song! I remember hearing this song in 2004 (17 y/o) and I'm still listening to it (34 y/o)
Edit: this genre is known as Black Metal

Dimmu Borgir one of my favourites bands. Its a symphonic black metal band.
A sugestion, the song "the insight and the catharsis", very good too.

Wonderful insight on how we as metal lovers need and use this music to get rid of anger healthily and feel calm and relaxed after listening. And yes they are the voice for the voiceless 👌👌

"Anger, frustration, rage... are also emotions". Man, if only everyone could understand this. I've yet to hear a musical piece making use of every emotion. Should be a decent challenge for any youtuber. Get them all with one subscribe.

Great reaction, man. I agree that the lyrics are probably about deception and control derived from that deception by various authority figures. This can be interpreted in many different ways: obviously the religious angle, religious authorities exploiting peoples belief for personal gain etc, but I think also in a general sense about the whole of society and the dangers of false or misinformation, for example.
This song was some of the first extreme metal I ever heard and I totally fell in love from the first moment. I remember my buddy and I were hanging out, we were about twelve and this was the time of the CD-burner. So we're listening to this burned cd with various stuff on like Ozzy, AC/DC and the like that we'd gotten from some kid at school and suddenly this song comes on and blows both of our minds immediately. I've been listening to and performing metal ever since.
Dimmu Borgir can be best described as symphonic black metal that sprang from the norwegian second wave of black metal. There are some absolutely amazing bands and songs that came out of that here in Norway, if you wanna check out a couple various black metal songs I'd recommend Freezing Moon by Mayhem, Key To The Gate by Burzum, Storming Through Red Clouds And Holocaust Winds by Immortal and 1184 by Windir, just so you can absorb and contrast the various flavours that can be found in this surprisingly diverse subgenre. I'm especially fond of the Burzum song, the whole track is really a journey, a very unconventionally structured track that tells a story just with the music, in addition to the lyrics.

Great song! Check out Dimmu Borgir - Arcane Lifeforce Mysteria (great synth from Mustis there)

The entire structure of the song brother. This was Dimmus best lineup. Not their best album imo though. That would be Enthrone which I feel is too black metal for you to consider.

This song is looking into Christian beliefs and calling it hypocrisy in short.
