He was from South Africa and didn't set foot in this country till he was in his thirties, yet it is quite something just how he got absorbed into the culture of this country and became an icon of British culture.
That's the thing with most actors in past especially Sid James were he could make a bang average movie good, and he even if not really British, will always be British the best of god bless his talented soul
He was a brilliant character actor - I remember watching ‘Helldrivers’ and amongst all those brilliant actors it was Sid who stood out. He was so much more than the Carry on’s..
Image him doing shakespear?? You bet! Richard II, Bottom, Lord Capulet, Polonius, George from Rich III, the gate guard from McB, any of a number of roles in Taming of the Shrew, and probably best of all, Sir Toby Belch from Twelvth Night.
sid, you woulda been great in Shakespeare! The dooman in Macbeth, Polonius in Hamlet (or the Gravedigger!), Clarence in Richard III, TONS of roles with you written all over 'em.

Great comedy actor, and a CARRY-ON Legend, and like the characters in played in the films, he certainly liked to chase the girls 😁Sid James (RIP).
A legend of 60-70's British TV and film comedy!
Sid was the king of Carry On, he is sorely missed

@TheDiddlysquat if what you say is true, than his real persona fits perfectly the Sid James in Hancock's half hour. anyway, he's very very loveable.
Actually, when playing with Hancock, it was always Sid that made me laugh. I wished Tony would go away!
how did a jewish guy get such an irish pan and demeanor?
Right, and where is your evidence of that?
where is a good place to buy a potato?
leeds.
Chippenham, on a Friday.
Great fun, but people say he was a bit of a tosser in real life.
