An English distillery's VERY high proof whisky hits the Vault as Rex and Daniel share some awkward moments. Thanks to Sachin Kainth for the bottle. Cheers ya MB!
By the way, it's been well over a year since we've had a Daniel week and Rex week. We need a week of unfettered nerdy-ness, and a week of poor-mans blends and shenanigans.
So glad someone sent you this, I live about 20 minutes from there and have nearly every variety, the cask strength is glorious. So glad it’s available to you guys
Was literally in The Cotswolds this past weekend and brought a bottle of this from the distillery. Haven’t opened it yet but looking forward to trying it!
I was fortunate to be able to tour the Cotswolds distillery on a trip to England last year. It is a wonderful distillery with an interesting background story. This bottle was distillery exclusive at the time so I picked one up, but have not yet opened it. After seeing this review I might just have to open it soon. The distillery is still very young so I'm excited to see what they put out in the future as their product ages longer.
There's a distillery in lovely Yorkshire, England called Filey bay. It's quite new I need to go over there at some point and check them out. They are all about field to bottle using local barley. I'm thinking you most probably won't have a bottle in the states yet but I'm looking forward to them getting big news.
Darren C I got one of theirs a few weeks ago when I went to the beautiful Yorkshire Coast. Really nice one finished in Madeira casks. I would thoroughly recommend it.
@@DrSkeff great stuff. Did you get to do the distillery tour? I should really go I'm less than 45 minutes away but I've a feeling the covid lock down will stop me going this year. Will have to order a bottle form the whiskey exchange. Good to hear from someone who has had some 😊
2:42 They're doing that because the casks they're using are red wine casks and are very rich in tannins. if they left them as is, you'd just get a mouthful of tannin with your whiskey, which is not great. They only shave off a little bit of wood, enough to remove most of the tannins from the cask, but they're still left with quite a lot of the flavour of the wine.
Actually got some of their single malt while IN the Cotswolds at a small boutique shop a couple years ago. Such a great whisky! I don't, however, think that it ever tasted nor nosed like an Irish whisky. Is was definitely closer to a scotch. Now, I may have tried a different batch or version of their whisky, but I don't think that they were going (by choice or allowing it) to come across like an Irish malt whisky. The Mooch is probably more correct in his assessment imho. But my palate is different than others... I also found a 'banana-like' note.
Can we get an episode with an imaginary friend cut? I'm just not sure which one of them should be the imaginary friend... Rex is much more Hobbes to Daniel's Calvin, but it's also much more believable that Rex would be the batshit crazy one
Seems like the only way to do the high proof, but doesn't seem like it thing accurately would be going shelf by shelf over time, trying anything open & then any new thing you open, you check for that too.
I just went back and looked at your review of Port Charlotte Scottish Barley Single Malt. You need to review it again. You did a first nosing and Rex did a sip and then you both went off on different tangents and never really reviewed the whisky.
I like steal you're lovers heart cause i picture it as like the chosen one, your destined true lover. Steal a lovers heart sounds like you're trying to take someone's lover.
Makers 46 cask strength is the smoothest cask strength I've ever tried. Shared it with whiskey noobs and they where blown away when I told them the proof.
I live a stones throw from the Cotswolds but haven't got to English whisky yet - too busy exploring and learning Scotch, Irish & American. Stupid as it's on my door step and I want to support local industry but its a headfuck learning the differences between the first 3 without adding a 4th!!
Ya know...the steal a lover's vs your lover's thing could have another context too. Steal a lover, could mean anyone...even someone else's lover, while steal your lover at least implies you're not a home wrecker.
Rex, we know we have hard to pronounce names. It doesn’t bother us. It’s been a struggle for everyone else our entire life. Many of us find joy in “the peoples” struggles.
To be fair, Fireball isn't really a whiskey, it's more akin to a cordial. So not necessarily deserving of a review, especially on the same level as the other whiskeys you have reviewed

I second this motion!
Third this motion
Definitely!
Gents, we need more upvote here !
Poor-mans highland park 25! Or Yamazaki 18! Those would be really cool..
I like the idea of the high proof that doesn't burn list. I'd totally watch.
Yes please!
I love the little 'Funky' edits. Good job fancy Dan.
Kainth was pronounced right, but instead of Sackin, it's Sa-chin. :)
Do you pronounce Sachin the same way as Sachin Tendulkar (cricketer)?
If so, might I suggest the phonetical pronounciation of Such-in.
SuvinRK yes exactly the same way.
SuvinRK yes your phonetic spelling is better.
What a great whiskey!!
Are you from the cotswolds area Sachin?
Just tried the Sherry Cask and OMGosh they are such an awesome distillery. Very very excited for the future and direction they go.

I’ve had the “lover’s heart” question since the change. Thanks for the explanation. 👍

Big fan of Cotswolds
Definitely a fan of the high proof episode. My pick would be Ardbeg Uigeadail.
"I'm a catch though", says the one dimensional smoky behemoth.
Good call back
I love what the folks with Cotswolds are doing!
ENGLISH!!!!! Whisky. Love this stuff. We always have it on the bar.
GM MB’s! Greetings from Phoenix 🌵
Have you ever considered doing a live “taste along”? Love the channel!

Use the leftover limestone you get from building the dunnage warehouse to build the castle?
STR is becoming common in the UK - especially for new craft distilleries here - Jim Swann encouraged it at Cotswold apparently
You should do a throwback to the old toast "May your crazy stay this side of legal and may you return before we have time to miss you"
Daniel still does that on the advent calendar reviews.
BreadFunk SourNote was my stage name when I was a New Orleans blues musician.
I love this Whisky. One of my Whisky Shelf Staples 👍

I would like that list.
Daniel Szor is the founder and a thoroughly decent chap he is too 👍
Hey guys, have you thought of doing an ep to give an update on what is on the legendary wall ?
Thank you for bringing this up. I have really been looking forward to more videos on different categories with the iconic wall
I’m totally stealing “I agree and you’re in charge” for work.
Daniels spreadsheets don't have the ABV %s easily accessible for us all to see?
Cough cough hiccup...that would be genius!!
Morning!

Inner Daniel really liked idea of providing good whiskey to the people.
Morning! New subscriber here

Best way to start my mornings, some tribe hilarity
Rex: "I have qualities. I can bullshit people, that's a quality."
You've never reviewed OGD 114 either.
Got to hang out with Daniel Szor the founder and his wife at an event in London at Milroy's last December. Very cool guy and great whisky and gins.
Or Jameson Black Barrel.
The water cam. Sneaky hobbit shenanigans.
Good Morning Gentlemen.

Brandy is hilarious!!!
Rex. "What's the mash bill?"
Drink.
☹️ No drink.
😂😂😂 funny video 🥃

Gd morning
It’s aged in shaved red wine barriques.
Plot twist we find out the cosmic bunghole is actually a cosmic gloryhole
Hello
You can save yourself a trip to the store and substitute some kerosene for Proper 12. They taste about the same. The kerosene might be better.
Why am I in no way surprised ?
Alex or F Dan, you missed a Funk...
*Funk*
Please let the bunghole die and not come back. I'd also accept a final act for the bunghole.
Daniel said funky and there wasn’t an edit.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
We Need The Funk, Gotta Have That Funk !
last...
Rex change your T I can see a pattern here.
We all know what Proper 12 is going to be like.. please don't waste the little and valuable time on this good green earth.
1st !
Bring forth Briana week

Yes, that's actually how it's pronounced.
May you steal *a* lover's heart is better.
Some people have more than one.
tsk tsk... Ya missed a "funk." As a video editor myself I am SOOOooo... disappointed.
