- For today's video, we're taking you with us for a LONG day of appointments at Mayo Clinic. After a mass was discovered in Brian's left kidney a few weeks ago ( • Do I Have Cancer? ), he is getting a biopsy to confirm if it is cancer.

We are Brian & Jessica, a married couple who started on a life-changing whole food, plant-based weight loss journey back in June 2018. In June 2022, our lives were flipped upside-down when Jessica was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Since then we welcomed our very first child via gestational carrier and bought a new house.

Sending prayers! My husband just had kidney cancer. They removed a portion of his right kidney and he needed only six month. Follow up appointments… No chemo. he is doing fabulous a year out. Sending prayers to Brian and thinking of you all.
Brian, I get it. I’m the caretaker in my marriage. It was difficult to accept help when I had a surgery and was down for a few weeks. But ultimately, that’s what marriage is about. We care for each other. It’s your turn, so sit back, follow your doctor’s recommendations and accept the fact that you are loved.
I couldn’t find a place comment. But I wanted to thank you for keeping us in the loop. We’ve fallen in love with you and are praying for you and these updates are so so appreciated.

It is hard going from the caretaker to the patient, but what a gift you are giving to Jessica to take her turn as your caretaker.
After my own massive struggles watching you two beautiful people has seriously made me question the universe. How can this happen to mum and dad when you've just got your beautiful daughter, then life kicks you in the guts again. Jessica you are looking amazing, Brian there is nothing wrong with being loved and cared for, it's what real love is. ❤

Brian is blessed to qualify for biopsy 1st. Didn't get one just had a mass too big so kidney just came out ! At least you know ahead of time how much needs to go or stay.

I was diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma in November following a nephrectomy. The mass was found by accident on mri for my back in September. I didn’t have to have a biopsy though, they just went straight to nephrectomy. I now have Addison’s disease ugh and having some new symptoms so back to the oncologist I go tomorrow! Praying all is well for you both

Brian I’m not going to lie it seems so strange to see you as the patient this time. Praying so much for you and your beautiful family. Prayers for abundance of strength and blessings no matter the circumstances.
My father is a kidney cancer survivor. Caught early, the prognosis is usually very good. He's 15 years post op and doing great. He just has to be careful to take care of his remaining kidney. I'm sure you'll do great Brian! So glad this was caught.
When my kidney mass was incidently discovered I was told by Cleveland Clinic a biopsy wasn't needed. The only way to determine if it was cancerous was to remove the tumor and then biopsy. So I suppose each Cancer hospital does things differently. Mine was removed robotically and it was found to be a 4cm chromophobe, which is cancerous. No treatment but closely watched for 5 years with scans and blood work as well as symptoms ,if any. Chromobobes prognosis is measured by size. It will be five years in July. So far so good. This type of cancer if it reappears is in the chest , not kidney. Sure hope Brian result are better than mine and no cancer!

Of course you are both exhausted. Worries about Brian's condition, stress about Jessica's follow-up and caring for Elsie (which I'm sure while it may be exhausting, is also the bright spot in your lives) ... it sounds like a perfect storm. I know you'll come through it and be stronger on the other side, but it's the "getting through it" that has to be challenging. I'm still in the angry phase with all of this, it's not fair and I am pissed and would like to speak to the manager, please and thank you. I am so glad that you have Elsie, she is adorable and adds some much needed levity to this otherwise infuriating scenario. My brother had kidney cancer in his transplanted kidney! Removed kidney went back on dialysis for 6 and a half years!good things ahead! He has had a total of 3 transplants and going strong at65
Elsie has grown and gotten so big! She's a real cutie. I've been with my husband for almost 40 years now and we've had our own share of each of us being sick. I much prefer being the ill one!! I get so anxious when it's Bill. So I understand where you're coming from, Jessica. But I know, for me, it was a privilege to help take care of Bill when he needed it. So, Brian, you don't need to feel bad or guilty when Jessica needs to help you and take care of you. I'm sure Jessica feels much the same way I do--it's a privilege to help care for you when you need it just as it was for me to help Bill when he needed it.
