Brother, there's 100's of smash burger videos on CZcams, but like I told when we talked. You have a great way of explaining instructions and not over complicating things with some special type of beef, bun, spices or cooking device. Great video and I'm working on compiling a list of BBQ names to send ya!!
I appreciate that! Looking forward to our next exchange!
The crust on that Burger was amazing, Nicely done!
Thanks so much!
Great video, Hussey! My brother was a chef and told me about slicing up whole pickles for burgers, too! Still do it to this day. The pickles slices aren't overly briny, like they are if you buy sliced pickles in a jar. Good crunch to them that really goes great with the burger.
Cool story about the pickles! Glad to hear someone else that has cred doing it. 😂
Excellent. Never trust a skinny chef, which is why I trust you so so much.
I appreciate that!
Fitness is key. Paul Saladino would be rolling over in his animal based organic coffin
Ouch Bro!
That's some genuine tough love right there...
Just made my 1st smash burger... double cheese on a buttered and toasted onion roll...
Good stuff!!!
How can I do these successfully without parchment paper?
Got my first blackstone for Christmas, started looking up recipes you were the first one that popped up been watching all of your old videos too wife's is loving al the food! Thank you so much!
That's awesome Larry, I'm glad you found me my friend! Hope you enjoy and get something great out of the content!
I'm from Missouri originally but now live in Michigan so I'm trying to bring some of the south to my wife and kids so yes your videos have helped a lot!
I'll have mine with mustard, chili, slaw and onions. You're the best griddler ever!
I like that Carolina Classic too my friend!
Finally a worthy smash burger video. Great tip on weight of the burger balls. Sometimes I'll buy the 16 ounce package of 80/20 and I'll break that into 6 balls, about 2.7 ounces each. I do weigh mine so they are all uniform. Martins potato rolls or sometimes a brioche roll on the griddle with a wee bit of butter or mayo and lightly toasted. Very hot griddle is key. And you're correct, things happen fast, so have your buns prepped with your condiments before you get to smashing. We always do two patties per sandwich. Also a good tip using parchment paper when smashing. Kraft Deluxe my go-to as well. Love that you mentioned seeing some holes thru the burger patty after smashing. A great indicator that you smashed them well.
My son has serious gluten issues so we use a couple pieces of iceberg lettuce as a wrap. A bit messy but it actually is mighty good. Thanks for the video.
Thanks so much for your honest feedback. I really appreciate it. Have a great day!
Thanks man! Just got my Blackstone for Father’s Day! I am giving this recipe a try tonight for dinner for the family!👍🏻🤞
Nice!!! Congrats and welcome to Griddle Nation!! Enjoy your griddle and hope you enjoyed the smash burgers.
@@thehungryhussey Thank man! We have used it like 4 times in 5 days!!!
I sure appreciate your tips, I’ve been cooking some great food on my Blackstone! My smash burgers have been a big hit with friends and family thanks to you!
I really appreciate you too for watching and commenting. It means a lot. I'm happy you're making some Good Groceries!
I give you all props man, i tried your roasted potatoes and sausage recipe on the griddle and it was immaculate, i added some chicken breasts on the side and it was perfect…. Your the best✊🏿✊🏿
Just tried this tonight. Using the 1/4 cup is genius! lol. Perfect patties grilled to perfection. So good. Many thanks for the video! Blessings.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend. Really appreciate it.
Just tried these on the Blackstone I got for Christmas. Fantastic. Honestly a little mad just how much better they are smashed than thick style.
They're so dang good!
I’ve always done 4 oz of beef for my smash burgers but yeah they are too big. I did 2.75 oz last night and they were the best burgers I’ve ever had. Thanks hungry, love your videos!!
That 2.5 - 3oz is a good size for sure. Glad I was of help to you!
Made 4 oz last night, never again. Double smashburgers but they ended up being half pound beasts. 3 oz is the wayyyyy
Excellent job, Matt! The only thing I would do different would be put two patties on that burger… Now that there’s some good groceries!
Ol' Hussey smashed this video as much as he smashed those burger patties. Since I am now in a smashing mood, I'mma smash the Like button three times!!! Thanks for the awesome video, Matthew. Hope you and the family are enjoying the heck out of this new year so far. Peace, my brother!
My grandma made smash burgers in the 60s and 70s in a cast iron skillet on top the stove. We did not call them smash-burgers they were just grandmas cheeseburgers , everybody loved them. She passed in 1982 but would be so surprised that they are popular now.
She could have been the pioneer of the phenomenon known as the smash burger! I bet that was min blowing back then!
That's awesome
Very informative video!
I've been wrapping my smasher with non stick aluminum foil.
It works greatà
That’s a great idea!!!
Matthew, I'm so glad you haven't sold your soul to the ceramic non-stick PB griddles. Nothing better than cold rolled steel for a flat top. A little maintenance is a big payoff!! You are definitely best at the Smash Burgers!! Happy New Year, Melaney from SoCal
Thanks Melaney for the kind words. I have no reason to go to others, I love my Blackstones!
Love this comment. I used to watch the twins but the one guy moving side to side all the time and the wrist snapping drove us nuts. Switching griddles was three strikes, have not watched them since switching griddles
After his partnership with the BS channel I said to myself "whew, no pit boss non stick here."
The ceramic non stick is what I have switched to from the Blackstone and because now I am not a slave to it. Also, no more rust.
PB griddle is the best way to go so sell that soul baby you want look back
I just picked up a Lodge burger press down at Lanier's in Lexington. Looking forward to our first smash burgers tonight. My Blackstone is the best Christmas gift I've gotten in a long time.
Cannot go wrong with that one either! Love Lanier's!
Best looking smash burger I ever seen. Im making some today and needed a tutorial to get it all the way down. I think this is gonna do it. Thanks
Hope you enjoyed your smashburger goodness!!!!
It’s not were it’s at until we’re sitting down with you and enjoying, great job, thanks
Thanks so much!
Matt you nailed it ! Great advice and guidance for smash burger 101. Thanks forever sharing. Cheers my friend
This is going to be my first cook on my new grill. Seasoned it using your video except I gave it 5 seasoning cycles. Can’t wait for tomorrow. Going to add ions and peppers and bacon too.
Sounds great!
My Mom use to have an old wooden hamburger press. I've got to see if my dad still has it. I'm now hungry for a smash burger! Yum! Thanks
Thank you I will be making my first smash burger , watching his video now I'm thinking well I can actually do it.
Hope you enjoy!~
Great job, this guy is down to earth and relatable
Thanks so much my friend!
Thanks, Matt. Big fan here! I hope you have a great New Year. Looking forward to many great videos this year!
Thanks Jim! Looking forward to the new year!
Smash burgers are always a winner at my house. Thanks for the video and GRIDDLE ON DUDE.
Thanks Bruno!
My kitchen is full of kitchen tools now, I am out of space. So I just use the bottom of a small pot to smash my burgers. Works as good as anything. FWIW.
The best thing to use is what you have on hand for sure! Good tip!
Yes Sir, fellow Tarheel. (Though I am really an ECU Pirate. @@thehungryhussey
I've been looking around youtube for advice, and your burgers look the best. I'll give these a shot soon. Thanks!
Tried them the other day. Family loved em, thanks!
Blackstones and smashburgers. A perfect match.
Great Job! Thanks. for the helpful tips
Glad it was helpful!
Worked great! Got a new subscriber out of this!
Thanks for the sub!
Best teacher out there !!!
You’re too kind my friend. Thank you!
Thank you sir, I'm making these tomorrow haha
Hope you enjoy!
Long time viewer as well as long term BS user. But the tips are good for all of us no matter how long you’ve been cooking on Blackstone. But using the measuring cup is excellent idea! Appreciate it
Great video!! Gonna try this tonight for 1st time ✌🏻
Did it work?
Yes sir l! Thank u
I just followed your instructions and they came out great!!
Glad you like them!
Great vid. Ever tried the sauce I think it’s mayo ketchup and hot sauce mix for smash burgers?
I’m all about those crispy bits! So yummy👍😊
That's the best!
My father in law gave me his black stone as a house warming gift. So far I’ve done Nathan’s hot dogs. They tasted great on it. I’m going to do smash burgers this sunday
That's a great gift for sure! Enjoy your smashburgers!
Good looking burgers Hussey! I am going to get one of those burger smashers.
They seem to work the best for me at this time. There's some others that are stainless, but I've not tired them.
Matt thanks for the videos! I just order a burger smasher from your link. I have been looking for one without the grooves or lip. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for your support!
Very helpful thank you
You're welcome!
new to the channel. this is awesome! def gonna subscribe
Appreciate the support!!!
I’ll be trying them this weekend
Enojoy!
I want some of those. Looks majestic. 🤤
Love your videos. Just got a 22.5 inch Blackstone tabletop grill for Christmas
Awesome Video! Great job man Thank you. Making these right now
Glad you like them!
Good Video Brother…Blessings Always!
Thank you for all the support!
Thanks for a great video. Do you use any oil before putting the burgers down?
Most times I do not as the burgers have enough fat in them.
I got a new, bigger BS for Christmas and hubby's favorite meal is hamburgers.
For his birthday every year he asks for burgers, potato salad and coleslaw. (Think KFC style)
I think we will be having a smash burger party for 30.
I think I will enlist someone to man the 22" and toast buns. Love warm, toasted buns.
BTW, love the mayonnaise - lots of it. :)
I like them toasted too sometimes, but also like that steamed type also. It's so soft and pillowy.
Watching you eating those...yup I'm making smash burgers tonight!
They're so dang good!
Wow That Looks Real Good I'm Hungry 😀😀😀
Thanks Dale!
Thanks for aharing this man! Ive felt intimidated to try them but im going to have to get to it.
Blackstone 36 inch griddle almost fully sold out in Australia coming up to Christmas
They are a big deal down here now
That’s awesome!!
I honestly wish you were my next door neighbour. Love watching and learning from your vids.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Awesome stuff dude
Thanks a ton!
Totally delicious.
I make my hamburgers in a pancake maker, and I use a milk jug to mash them!!!
It works the same!!!^^
Nice man .
I will be trying them for sure. My motto is if you fail you try again
Once again making it look easy. Job well done!
Totally smashing it Hussey!
haha.. Thanks Spike!
Looks BANGING
Thanks bud! It was!
Thank you dude!
You're welcome my friend! Hope you enjoy!
Hussley!!
Smash burger pimp!!!
Hilarious!!
Those burgers looked good.
Great way to start off the new year!!
Did Maggie get some of that meat?
Oh yeah, she got her a nibble!
Hulk smash!!! Smashed burgers 🍔 are the best!
That's right!
I think you need "burger sauce" that you can make yourself. I would suggest frying up some diced up onions cooked on the flat top as well and add them at the time you add the cheese on top.
I mean, that's the beauty about cooking is making it your own. This is the foundation then you make it your own. Thanks for watching!
10/10 brother.❤
Thanks so much!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks Buddy!
Thank you my friend for watching!
Smash burger - pimp! 😅 Heck yea!!
Super video on your perspective on cooking smash burgers on the Blackstone. How about having your daughter cook some groceries with you a bit more. 👍😊
I typically do these while the kids are at school, but usuaully if shooting while here they like to help.
I always feel in such a hurry when I make the smash burgers. Thanks for the tips! Good groceries
Love them smash burgers 😋
Matt, two things: Have you tried Dukes Bacon/Tomato Mayo (YOW GOOD!) and the video quality is noticeably better these days (WAY TO GO!)
80/20 or go to butcher and get a special mix of brisket and short rib? I had a friend get some special mix and his burgers were very good
That 20mm lens gives your video 3d pop. First time i've noticed this in any video on youtube.
Thanks man. I’ve actually switched systems from that setup since then.
Do you use oil or butter on the griddle right before you smash ? And how long before you flip ?
I usually do not. The 80/20 provides a good amount of oil.
Trying this tonight
Enjoy!
Looks delicious
Thanks!
Do you oil the flat top prior to putting the meat on or just cook with nothing?
No, I don't with smash burgers.
Any tips on when to flip the burgers?
You’ll start to see the edges getting crispy and the juices come to the top, that’ll be an indication.
@@thehungryhussey ok. And how do you it’s finished after the first flip?
To be honest, it’s pretty much done after the flip. Get the cheese on, and about 30 seconds later, it’s good.
Yum! First time i had a smash burger was in Switzerland, 2015. Didn't know what i was seeing. Never been able to match it even doing it myself ... but yours look pretty close. Good health to you and yours sir!
Interesting had them in Switzerland. Try this out, you'll like it I'm sure.
Oil or no oil put down before smash burgers?
What blackstone model are you using? Its beautiful! Lol
That’s a culinary rangetop combo. It’s a great machine!
Any seasoning suggestions?
This is my own custom blend here - www.thehungryhussey.com/product-page/hussey-s-heifer-dust
You said that you were preheating on low and then going turn it up later but in the video I never saw you turn it up. When and to what temp would you turn the grill when you’re ready?
I pre-warm on low, always. Maybe 1-2 mins before, get it ripping hot!~
@@thehungryhussey thank you! Thanks for the great content. I’ve picked up on the preheat on low (just got a black stone last week and have been inhaling videos). I tried the smash burgers last night and they took forever to cook (had burners on high after preheating low). Come to find out my regulator on my propane tank had tripped and it was barely giving any gas. So they were good but they weren’t Smash Burgers. I’ll have to have a rematch with them soon! 🍔
@@thehungryhussey one more question 🙋♂️ say I was wanting to cook like 30 of them. How many should I do at a time? And would I need to turn the grill down at some point? I have a thermopro temp gun coming to check griddle temp.
You're giving me a Blackstone for Christmas?!?!? I'm still waiting for you to deliver it........wait is it coming from that opera lady?!?!?!?!?!?
Looks so tasty!
Thanks Bill!
look so delicious 🤤
Thank you 😋
Waiting for your restaurant to open!!!
Oh my! That business is so tough. Might just keep it here.
@@thehungryhussey ☹️!
Did you ever change the temp from low? You didn’t mention just that it was smoking
Yeah, I did.
you should never compact or even roll the hamburger meat into a ball, you want the meat loose. crumble the meat in a pan, season it, lightly toss it. then make grab hamburger size portion and set them aside or smash them onto the hot grill. the loose pack of the meat allows the heat to move through the entire patty and cooks it evenly. this also helps all the fat render at the same time resulting in a fast cook time. NEVER COMPACT THE MEAT UNTIL YOU SMASH IT ON THE GRILL. cheers!
When do you know when it’s time to flip the burger?
What’s the grease trap blocker
That's just a Blackstone blocker.
Did you flip your dials to high before smashing? Any idea on how hot your surface is?
Surface will be 550° during this. If your disks are at med high, yeah, I will sometimes so that the recovery time isn’t so long.
Just got my first Blackstone griddle. I heard you say make the grill nice and hot, get the smoke rolling before throwing the burgers on. How hot are we talking (medium, medium-high)?
You want 450-500 degrees here. So, you’ll be Med-high to high.
Great video as always!!
Question... are you using 4k cameras now? Everything is so crystal clear!!
♨️ Keep on Grillin' ♨️
Sincerely,
DanInKnoxville
Hi, can you do a video on how to make smash burgers on a blackstone griddle? I looked all over youtube and i can't believe it but nobody ever made such a video yet. also mac & cheese, would love a video on that too because yet again, nobody has thought of this yet
I’ve done a few. Here’s a video - How to Cook Smash Burgers on the Blackstone Griddle - The Perfect Burger Every Time!
