It’s even worse in my native language where the meanings for asocial and antisocial are literally switched. „Asocial“ has the connotation of a lowlife who is socially and often mentally impaired and constantly being a dick to others while people like introverts are considered „antisocial“, even though that’s not what these words mean. Hello! After watching this video, try not to self diagnosing and proclaiming yourself. Because all disorders explained here really are an abnormal way of thinking, behaving, and functioning as the video said in the beginning. So, feeling those symptomps just in a normal conscious way doesn't mean you have disorders mentioned.
But if you really do feel it abnormally in yourself, go see therapist or psychologist immediately.
    Keep your mind healthy, everyone!
    Have a good day 🌞

Right?! I can't speak for people with mental illnesses or people with personality disorders but I feel like the way that things in these videos are explained make it easy for people without mental illness to self diagnose. I truly enjoy this channel's effort to educate and spread awareness but I feel like there's a slightly better way to do things that really shows the difference between someone without a mental illness and someone with it. I also can't help but feel like how they explain it slightly unfairly portrays how much people with mental illness struggle. Many people in my family struggle with mental illness so I've seen it firsthand and while I cannot speak out about it myself I feel as if it just paints the struggles of mental illness as a normal person with slightly abnormal traits which isn't always the case.

I do have BPD actually and OCD. I forget if I've officially been diagnosed or not but I know my BPD therapist says I def do have it so I will have to talk to her about that as well. It's strange because I know that BPD can come. with a cluster of other disorders but aren't at least to me, aren't as major. I wonder what the difference is between that and the term cluster used here. (btw just a general question asking everyone or someone who knows can reply OP, you don't have to answer haha)

That's why I often mistook plants as dangerous persons, or the cupboard, I always seem to see a lady peering behind the tiny glass doors with big eyes and a creepy smile while in reality they are just boxes of cereals... I often get perceptual distortions, I hate it when I get perceptual distortions, especially in the middle of the night. One time, I went to get a glass of water in the kitchen half-past 2 am, I looked at the cupboard and saw an eye, I dropped my glass of water and screamed, I got scolded for it. Being schizotypal is not easy, mistaking something for what it's not can give someone a heart attack

It gives an example of a young girl with the disorder, and also an older boy who has the same disorder. The book is about how their different childhoods and how they where raised determined how the disorder effected their life. The ultimate Nature and Nurture!

I really appreciate your objective take on BPD. Coming from someone with BPD, the animations were very relatable and made me feel warm inside :')
However, I have one gripe with this. People with AVPD do not just "not want to make friends," they are terrified to. I imagine it as an evolved and more complex version of Social Anxiety disorder as they share many similarities. I see this particular disorder as having multiple tiers. From lowest to highest it goes:
    1. Social Anxiety
    2. Agoraphobia/Claustrophobia
    3. Avoidant traits
    4. Avoidant Personality Disorder
People who have it completely and outright avoid potentially anxiety-triggering situations, even if they desire to be in them. The way my old partner described it goes as follows:
"It's like you really wanna go out to that party with your friend, but you have a terrified person right behind you trying desperately to convince you not to go because something terrible might happen. This person will go so far as to physically prevent you from stepping foot out your door until you give in an accept the fact that you're staying home that night and you won't be going out tomorrow as well"
This is a very general description of how it feels, but I understand. It's not just social anxiety, it's not just not wanting friends. Social anxiety, for me, only ever happens when I am around people and never when I'm in the process of going to the event. Avoidant personality disorder prevents you from experiencing an anxiety or depression triggering event by means of brute force. You are left with nothing but the comfort that there MAYYBE was a potential crisis that you averted. It's the uncertainty that really fucking kills.
By the way, I have prominent avoidant traits, but I am one symptom criteria off from being diagnosed with it. It's not that we don't want friends, it's that our mind is holding us back from doing the things we really want to do because we're so scared that "something" might go wrong and that "something" is almost always vague and undefined.

I relalated so much to avoidant persoanlity disorder and borderline personality disorder. I started self harming quite impulsively about 1 year ago, then I started dissociating severely and intensely fearing rejection, abandonment, and loneliness. My moods would swing from hour to hour, and swing from being intensely euphoric to depressed and angry. I also started becoming really paranoid of others, I felt that my own mother was trying to poison me intentionally. I've technically always been very shy, but in my teenage years i started to feel inadequate and inferior to others. I started to cut contact with people and I dropped out of school to do home education. I never even tried to make friends at school because of my intense feelings of inadequacy and inferiority, as well as my intense fear of rejection. I have gotten used to be isolated. I have changed for the better and alot of things I deal with are calming. It is not so bad. I'm doingalot of things that used to be impossible for me. Step 2. 3. 4. It may seem like most can have it without a problem but for me it controls my life. I am constantly depressed and/or suicidal if I’m ignored or not the center of attention. It’s extreme I know but that’s just how my mind works, it stems from childhood trauma. My emotions shift so rapidly and are hard to manage so I go to extreme lengths for relief like self harm. It makes me believe I have every disorder on the planet and I’ve been misdiagnosed many times. I am awful in relationships and my romantic life is a mess. HPD is really not all games and rainbows and acting in the spotlight. Plus on top of that I have Bipolar and anxiety which makes it 1000x worse :(

You should do an updated video focusing on the difference between bipolar, histrionic, and NPD please.
My mother was abusive, mentally physically and sexually. Both to me and my dad and stepdad. She’s engaged in very prolific risky sexual behavior, drugs, she’s been fired from every single job she’s ever had except one, so she has her own business now, and she is very much aware of other peoples emotions, but she extremely lacks empathy. She has what I often call the savior complex, where she loves being worshiped, she will be extraordinarily generous, but when you start Getting a back bone and she’s extremely abusive and can see the worst things possible. And example for me as a kid, I was the only baby she kept, she aborted my brothers and sisters before and after me. And she told me because I was the one she kept I/Owe her.
Sometimes when she was love bombing she could be so much fun, but when I saw her grooming my oldest daughter who is a perfect supply for a narcissist, she’s excitable, fun, loves gifts and is very enthusiastic and sweet, I knew I had to cut her off.
I find your videos very cathartic and helpful. I sent them to my husband because she abused and manipulated him too verbally.
She’s been diagnosed as bipolar, but I’m wondering if it’s histrionic. She refuses to ever get any more treatment, and I think it’s because there’s no treatment for narcissism.
She’s also an ESFP (I’m an INFJ), I actually find The Myers-Briggs a helpful tool because it helps me to understand where she sees the world from and how she makes her decisions.
    Thank you!

Hence why I hated being called "antisocial" when people thought I didn't like to socialize. I'm like, bruh, I empathize with people, I just don't like to be social and tend to struggle picking up on social cues. The proper term for me, which I'm not sure I have this personality disorder, but if I did, it certainly isn't "antisocial" but probably schizoid.
Also, since people tend to mix these three up:
Schizoid Versus Avoidant Versus social anxiety disorder.
Schizoid and those with SAD want to make friends still and will still interact. People with SAD, however, will have anxiety over socializing often with fear of rejection or making a social mistake. The last part is how SAD overlaps with AvPD, but AvPD is different in that they will go to an extreme of avoiding social situations(moreso than someone with Schizoid). Like, they'll even avoid extremely important stuff such as school or work. That's how far that goes. As someone who's likely Schizoid, I still see the absolut importance of going to work or school and would never miss it, even though I dislike being there. Though I also diagnosed with SAD, so that complicates things, but they determined I had that and likely Schizoid(even though AvPD almost sounds like the combo of the two) because AvPD takes avoidance to a whole new level that those with Schizoid would never do. Additionally, AvPD people don't even want friends while those with the other two would(as is the case with me, I still like having friends, though I likely have SAD and Schizoid).
So there go, that's the primary differences between them. Which actually, I might recommend Psych2Go make a video on that. Tired of people mixing them together lol.

    • @somber087
      @somber087 Před 2 měsíci +1

I was diagnosed bpd around 3 years ago, and honestly, the worst part of it for me is the paranoid thoughts and fear of abandonment. i almost never see people talking about paranoia in bpd, but this is something that affects every part of my life. i always have this persistent feeling that everyone secretly hates me and are out to get me. it’s so bad that i can’t concentrate on anything else because i’m so stressed out about it. i always imagine that i’m being abandoned or about to be abandoned and ruin my relationships with people without realizing it. my fear only ends up pushing them away. something else that affects me a lot is that constant feeling of emptiness. i have never turned to drugs or sex, but i have indulged in reckless spending just to feel something. i always change interests and hobbies because i get bored so easily and go back to feeling empty. my self esteem is really unstable too. one day i’ll be feeling good about myself, almost to a narcissistic level, and then the next i’ll feel so awful that my mind is plagued by intrusive thoughts about how bad i think i am. another part of bpd that people rarely touch on is the psychotic features some of us may have. i have hallucinations and delusions, and have been misdiagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder. all in all it’s an awful disorder to have, and i wish more people understood us.

I’m a teen and I’ve been having some trouble.... a lot of people have been telling me I have symptoms of some kind of personality disorder and I’m trying to find out which one fits my description best or if I even have a personality disorder.... I have a different personality for each person I know and I switch between them frequently. Sometimes, I might run out of energy for a certain personality and end up switching to a different one (that one that I switch to is usually sarcastic and annoyed). I don’t really know who I am as a person since I have so many different “versions” of my self.... it can be super hard sometimes and often will cause me to have depressive episodes and horrible anxiety. I have had at least 20 anxiety attacks in the past 3 months and they are horrible. Maybe I’m just stressed or overreacting though.... I am not taking any medication that could’ve caused any side effects of anxiety or depression or anything like that. It’s also hard for me to be around people for long periods of time as it tires me until I am mentally exhausted and it has negative effects on my state of mind (maybe I’m just really antisocial??? Hahah). But if anyone knows anything that can help me please reply to this....

It's not as uncommon as you think... everyone is different. Some people are more introverted and prefer being alone while others are more social and can blend into any group. Do you think you might have social anxiety?

Ok... so I have a Problem and I feel like i need help...
This might sound silly but I have a huuuge puppy crush on a guy who is like four years older than me. He is super cute but I am aware that it’s just a puppy crush and I don’t actually love him or want to date him. I literally have no idea how to deal with it, I find myself staring at him way to often and when I talk to him I say stupid things. I want this to stop, but I don’t know how. He’s an awesome guy and I’m sure we could be good friends if this could just stop. I have the feeling that because of this I can’t actually start seeing someone, it would be weird to have a crush on somebody else when you’re in a relationship. It’s rlly sad cuz there are so many cute guys falling for me, and I wish I could date them. I’ve broken multiple hearts and it hurts every time and I hate doing it so much too. Please send help, I rlly don’t know how to deal with this anymore.

they are only disorders if they affect your functioning or are distressing. Being alone is not a disorder unless its maladaptive.

2 years ago I got diagnosed with the Borderline Personality Disorder, After a lot of therapy and a pretty stable environment, I got a little better, but most of the Time its just hell. Its crushing when you cant be sure if youre perception is right and you always have to double check if a ,,healthy“ friend perceived the emotions in a Social Situation the Same as you

Also I don't understand why people fake their disorders just to get attention. I hate attention and just to let you know, I (even though not fully) have multiple personalities and it's not good to make assumptions that people fake diagnose themselves. I already past that edgy age and I'm not a kid. So please stop acting like you know the people you're talking to online.
