  • @vmdenis3350

To all the comments, you can do it without taking time, 20 sec that 40 this, just try to do your best each time you sprint, breath deep and steady when you jog back to recover. It's fine when you don't meet the 20/40 sec mark, you will get to it in a week's time after starting this exercise

If you listen to the narrative, he says, the exercise is over when you fail to do the sprint in less than 20seconds... so in the spirit of a big fat lazy person who is out of shape, with a wee bit of a narcissistic streak, looking for an excuse to quit, but blaming it on the instructor and also shirking the blame from myself... all while stripping the well-intentioned motivation out of the speech... I said “You had me at ‘the exercise is over when you fail’”... it’s narcissistic humour, it’s a turn of well meaning intentions into an accusation of ‘you will fail this test when’ and I took that as my excuse to pre-fail the exercise ‘you had me at the exercise is over when you fail’.

Good exercise, I used to do this to get my six pack , I had an arsenal of exercises that complemented overall succesful body molding, sprints were my Olympics. Lots of floor routines on abbs, no machines for six pack just pull up bar, dif variations, BTW look at how he uses his whole body, arms hands, to grind the sprints out, copy this and you'll see improvements in your overall gym game. ALSO , 30 -50 yards is good enough, you'll be winded quick only need to do 3-5 sprints at first, reason, you'll be so winded if you go all out it'll get your lungs a shock, build up your yards and times on your own terms; sprints b4 or after you work out? I did them b4 I worked out sometimes after, stretching b4 this is a must.

So if you wanted a break you had to be faster than the majority of the other guys because the coach would only blow the whistle when about 95% of the guys made it across. So you could take a very small break waiting for the next whistle to start the sprint across the field again. Sometimes we'd probably do that for an hour. And l'll say this now, the water from the hoses after that is still the best water I've ever had in my life. Lol

It is basically a never ending running exercise witch when you stood at one end of the court and once you hear a beep you had to run across the entire court and be ready to start again before the beep went off. The time shortened every beep so you had to run faster and faster to catch the beep. Our teacher marked everyone’s score when you couldn’t continue. yeah. Would it be safe to say - for what would have been something I can to wind-sprints when I was younger - to make the recovery run 2× the sprint and focus on that alongside a reasonable heart rate monitoring for the sprinting portion?

    • @jamesstevens5468

Yea for sure that works. Heart rate monitoring however, is overrated if you are still relatively young. I’m sure that you will get back to a normal recovery in your rest. I don’t really believe you should try to hit time for the rest however. Go as slow as you need(don’t walk though).
I’m in a middle distance running group at uni right now, and I sometimes have to do 8 x 15 second all out sprints with 45 second test jogging in between. However, we take the jogging really really slow.

    What is a fartlek run?
Fartlek is literally, playing around with speeds - essentially, it’s a form of unstructured speedwork. It involves a continuous run in which periods of faster running are mixed with periods of easy- or moderate-paced running (not complete rest, as with interval training).
Fartlek (Swedish for ‘speed play’) is one of the most common training sessions I use with my athletes. The history of fartlek training dates back over 80 years, when coaches and scientists began to experiment with different methods of improving fitness and adding variety to training.

20 seconds for the field is actually pretty easy. A football field is like 110 meters total if you include the end zones. It's not a long run at all, if you're somewhat fit you can probably get under 20 seconds pretty easily at like 60% effort.
What makes this hard is the lack of full recovery.
