Me and my papa who died a few years ago would play this game all the time.
He hated video games but for some reason he loved this game.
So many memories.
I remember the same thing, but he was just like Avgn. Grandpa was an ass as well!
So sorry to hear that, I played with my 2 brothers, 3 players at the same time on my Sega Genesis.
Til Valhalla.
My dad wasn’t a big fan of video games either but he and I loved playing this together. He passed away 13 years ago. I still play it every now again, still love this game. Had a lot of great memories with my dad playing it.
Thanks for sharing this memory ❤
I bought a copy because of your recommendation. What an awesome game. I've been playing co-op with a friend and we are having a blast. He usually only plays modern games, but the puzzle solving part of Lost Vikings is timeless. Thanks for the review. I love finding new games to fall in love with. Keep up the excellent work!
Cool, thanks for watching Dave
The music in the first Lost Vikings is *_the shit!_* Especially in the SNES version. It's rocking, funky, weird, varied, the SNES sounds are used really well and it's memorable.
the factory music is the best one
Totally agreed!
KICK IT!
The Genesis version also allows for three players co-op action, which is immense fun. Also features remixed soundtrack by Matt Furniss.
Donu mean its 3 players at once playing?
Yes. 3 players, each controlling a different viking. Tons of fun.
@@RadoslavMitrov Really wow. I should get that game then. I rent it once. Thanks I'll get it for Sega I even have controllers and a Multitap for 3 players
@@RadoslavMitrov The Definitive Edition is in the Blizzard Arcade Collection, does Lost Vikings Definitive have Three Player Co-Op?
@@robbiewalker2831 I'm unfamiliar with it, but I just did a quick search and one review states that it has the 3 player coop support as well as the additional levels of the Mega Drive port, along with some other minor tweaks I wouldn't care about. Still cool though.
Man my brother and I played the first game for HOURS. I never even knew about the sequel until years later when I was already an adult. I found one in ebay, bought it; and I was immediately transformed back into my kid self as we played through it together. What a couple of great games.
I remember a funny ad for The Lost Vikings 2 back in the day
"You idiot, that was our village we burned down!"
Where could I find that add ? :D
Lol 🤣😂
The Lost Vikings was one of my all time favorite SNES games for sure. Personally, I loved the music! Pretty cool to have grown up with the roots of Blizzard: R&R Racing, Lost Vikings, Warcraft 1/2, Diablo, etc.
2WhiteAndNerdy I wish they would bring back old school Warcraft. Those games were great!!
Indeed they were! Nothing beat doing some old school LAN parties with the original Warcraft. One of the fun benefits of playing the originals though, is how much more I understood the lore and backstories to a lot of what's in WoW. Back when I played (from '97-'11), most the people I played WoW with had no clue about how much they were missing.
No Blackthorn?
I love this game. My family and I still talk about it even today. lol Minnesota Vikings joke. Minnesota knows the struggle of those. Minnesota FTW.
The music in Lost Vikings on the SNES was fucking awesome! I don't know what he's smoking?
yes
I think these are 2 of the best puzzle games on the snes. Fantastic music. Its like blizzard polish on the snes.
Some hacks were made recently that improve the slowdown and add stereo sound to LV2 on SNES.
I like your channal because you talk about games i didnt even known existed and im an 84 baby i grew up on almost all the games nes super nes sega genisis 32 x atari dreamcast sega saturn just to name a few but im mostly a old school gamer and seeing these games always shock me good work my dude and keep the all gamers spirit up love your chanel Bravo out.
Still love these games to this day. The humor, combined with the heavy puzzle elements, made this one of my favorite non-mainstream series of the 16-bit era. :)
HELL YEAH IT'S WORTH PLAYING!!!
I loaded so many games on my SNES classic but I knew I was missing something from my childhood I couldn't quite put my finger on, and this was it! Thanks for another great review/video!
Happy to help

Lost Vikings 2 is my childhood game, I can't remember if I ever finished it, maybe the later levels was too hard for my 10 year old self, but I sure had so much fun with it. Also I always laughed out loud every time I used Olaf's fart to break rocks or glide through the air :)
I loved the lost Vikings! I get your point about the soundtrack, it was very 90s, but I loved it!
Lost Vikings 1 was a favorite of mine as a kid and I loved the music. The death animations were great. I liked 2, but played it a lot later so it's not as memorable to me.
A rare example of a truly excellent Western developed game from that era.
there are tons of truly excellent western developed games, while in japan there was indeed a golden era, on PC western games were the best.
And some of them, like the ultima, wizardry and the dungeon master series influenced japanese devs so much to the point of creating the classic jrpg and dungeon crawler genres.
Let's agree to disagree. :P
And Ultima and Wizardry are from a different era. They're about a decade older than this. :P
+Jayce So SimCity, Civilization, Dune II, Ultima VII, and many others don't count?
@@Jayce_Alexander ok? That doesn't chang the fact that Ultima and Wizadry heavily inspired Dragon Quest, SMT and such.
And Wizadry became a bigger deal over there than here funny enough
+SonofSethoitae Did I say this was the only decent western developed game from this era? Here's a hint: I didn't.
had a lot of fun playing thru this with my brother back in the day
I love these games so much. They're really difficult, but in a fun way that makes you want to keep trying until you get it.
Great game, cool to see you cover this. It's really challenging (and frustrating when your vikings die) and I never made it through the whole game, but I love the concept behind the puzzles.
Been playing the first one forever. Just found out about the sequel and added both to my hackchi snes mini. Nice vid.
This was one of my very first PC games. I remember having this on a disk for DOS - and it was my ONLY option to play any games when my parents hid away the SNES controllers.
Well, the Genesis version is 3 players I think. And the soundtrack is heavily improved. That Prehistoria theme is catchy as hell.
I loved this game. I found the best strategy was having one player control the sword and shield and one player to control the jumper.
what I love about your videos is all the sports references!
I remember renting this from my local blockbuster - absolutely loved it. Ended up keeping it for two weeks.
That's Sweet!
I love the music! I appreciate the review, though! Antonio, Brazil.
SNES and NES classic ftw. I missed so many games in the 90's and early 2000's but now I've got em all :)
Lost Vikings 1 was also on PC - I remember because I played it. Honestly though, I don't remember how many levels it had.
Thanks for making this and have a good rest of your holiday
Thanks you too
Sweet souvenirs of my childhood, great puzzle game.
Thank you for your review! Have a Happy Holidays!
Thanks you too
I honestly didn't know that they're actually was a second lost Vikings game. that is definitely good to know when I ought to check that out
For anyone catching this video in 2021, there's a digital title called Blizzard Arcade Collection for Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC that has both Lost Vikings games, in multiple versions, along with Blackthorne, Rock n' Roll Racing and RPM Racing!
Actually, Eric can attack if you use his ramming ability on an enemy... but thats assuming the enemy doesn't have a projectile attack.
-Phoenix
OBJECTION
Also if the enemy doesn't die you get exposed to receive a hit
Greetings from greece and happy xmas!
Thanks, cheers
One of my favorite childhood games
the concept alone made me always remember it.. a glorious weekend when i picked this one up from blockbuster
Any game can be worth playing as long as you enjoy it. I still play this game a couple of times a week.
hey! I´ve playing this games the past few weeks, they are really fun.
I just recently beat the first one, and man, it's awesome. well, it's a little tedious at first but then you get used to it. Obviously I got stuck in some levels and it made me quit, but it have something that make you come back and tried again, and when I back with fresh mind to try, I always figure out what I have to do. Defenitly one of the most original game I ever played.
Too bad this is another franchise that was forgotten in the past :(
Back in the day we only played it once. Butcthanks for uploading this. I will buy both parts soon.
I remember listening to the theme song over and over due to how AWESOME the soundtrack was -- real New Jack Swing feel.
Love these games. I rented them back in the day and enjoyed them a lot; years later I played through them again, and had a lot of fun doing so. I actually have never played the SNES version of LV2; I played it on PS1. I'd be interested in trying the SNES version though. Anyway, good vid/review.
Thanks for watching
This game and it's successor are both excellent.
Hy. Great review! I have been a huge fan of the series since 2002 when I first played Lost Vikings 1 on Pc. I just love the concept of how you have to master the abilities of each viking, work as a team on order to survive the challenging levels by solving puzzles. No doubt Lost vikings is one of the best when it comes to puzzle solving/ co-op gameplay and humor due to which it still holds up today pretty well. As of Lost vikings 2 there is not much to say. It is as entertaining as the first one. Recently it has been announced that Blizzard is planning to revisit the franchise. If you haven't played the Lost Vikings don't hesitate...you will have a lot of fun.
Good show. pls make more!
I've been waiting for this video!!!
loved this game as a kid
Fantastic review I always value your opinion.
I always considered them as some kind of spiritual progenitor to the "Trine" games, they have a very similiar puzzle plattformer appeal in my opinion
Loved the music and when I was playing for the first time at like 10 years old the dialogue made me laugh
I loved this game as a kid. I actually just put it on my raspberry pi.
Pi’s aren’t, but ROMs and emulation are. However, sometimes it’s the only way to experience an old game, and since used games don’t benefit the developer at all, it’s a bit of a grey area.
If you own the hard copies of these games I believe you have the right to own the data/rom version. Seeing as you have already payed for the use of the game (hard copy). After that, I believe it becomes a grey area. And like Admiral Frosty stated, it doesn’t benefit the original company. If that were the case, stores like game stop and other used game stores would be just as illegal since they are profiting on the game rather than the original developers. Using retropie is no different than the stores reselling hard copies. And at least I own hard copies of the games I’ve gained onto my Pi.
This game was awesome. I remember playing it a lot with my cousin. The art style and animation was great. Hated the fall damage, tho.
Great review- thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to watch
This takes me back to 1994-5. I moved to a new neighbourhood as a kid in England my mom threw me outside and said go make some friends you aren't staying inside.
I met some twins called Paul and Richard. I was invited into their house they had a SNES and I was riddled with Envy as I only had a Sega Master System.
They had this adapter which allowed for 4 slots to play Mario Kart and they had this game also the box looked so badass like how I guess kids see God Of War today to me there was nothing cooler or Radical haha.
I always loved playing as the Sheild guy seriously computer games were really good social things in the days, I wouldn't say so much now as it does have its perks with the Internet but the cons outweigh the pros.
Nothing will ever beat going to people houses and playing their consoles and games with loads of other kids waiting for a turn.
I have the 2nd one and love it!
I've never played this game. There were ads galore in the gaming magazines of the 90s, but I never got around to giving it a try. That's about to change
Erik always reminds me of Yosemite Sam. Lol.
LV1 is p good but Lost Vikings 2 is one of my absolute favorites. Super underrated
So this is where the secret character Olaf for Rock n Roll Racing came from!
One of my all time favorite games
Finally a loyal fan :D Greets :D
Loved these games back in the day, but they get stupidly tough very quickly!
Loved this game!
Hope your Holidays are going good!
Thanks you too
The 8 year old me always laughed out loud with Olaf's fart in Lost Vikings 2 😁
My family rented these constantly growing up! I remember staying up all night with my brothers trying to be quiet, trying to not wake up our parents
always kinda hoping for a lost vikings 3, with the retro kick of the new TMNT game there is a tiny possiblity i supose
I remember I played a rip-off of this game on Nickelodeon’s website when I was a little kid (they’ll ripoff any game, apparently). I thought it was fun, so I’d probably like this.
I remember very late in the snes' run. The only games you could buy new at the game store were the lost Vikings 2, secret of evermore, and another I can't remember. I bought secret of evermore that day!
Had so much fun playing this on 2003 on a hand me down snes
Cblt
Smrt 2 codes I remember
There was a lost vikings 2 game
GR8T
BBLS
Are two I seem to recall. :P
In short: Yes.
Can't get me started on THOSE Lost Vikings. I have been going on about them for over 41 years now.
The gameplay is very similar to that of the Little Barbarian, the avatar of "Kid Paddle", the comic strip also known as "Game Over".
In addition to the platform action aspect, with puzzles based on multi-functional weapons, the game works with a code-saving system that has the courtesy to memorize the last one even when the SNES is switched off. Items, on the other hand, are not (watch out for game over!).
Never heard of this game but it looks great
A classic!
Great review
Thanks for watching
Yeah these are good, just wish there were checkpoints or some way to upgrade hp to not have to replay levels so much just from one loss. Many save states were used in my playthrough of the first one. The first one is also a game where the higher res on MD is helpful.
Remakes with split screen MP like in Toejam & Earl would be cool, if that works with the level design.
I like the split-screen idea, or online multiplayer on 3DS or something
Your NFL Vikes look pretty damn good. ;)
We always said red boy sword boy & shield boy when we talked about them.
Honestly, this would have expanded the replay value if Blizzard ported this to the the PSN, not to mention the trophy awards with multiple online coop. That would seem pretty cool.
Found out about this game when I heard it was the inspiration for the Trine series of games.
OH , I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH IMPRESSIVE GRAPHICS BEFORE!!!
Really dug this game
Loved it
Happy holidays snes
The Lost Vikings is the first game i bought with my own money. I really liked the humor, especially all those cartoonish death animation and the 4th wall breaking the vikings had sometimes at the end of stages, when commenting on what is happening to them.
Eric the Swift can so attack! He can ram guy's with his head when you build up speed.
Used to play this on the PC, what with only having an NES for a console till date. Brings back memories of days and years gone by...
You can control them all at once on HotS though, which feels very unconventional 😅. You're supposed to select ONE at a time dammit!
this games was awesome.
The music was not odd. The housey, dancey, funky hip hop, new jack swing style of music was very popular in that time. So it made sense from that early 90's perspective and most people around from time loved the music in the game. If you wasn't born yet or a toddler around that I can imagine it sounded a bit odd.
This is now coming back as part of the Blizzard Arcade Collection.
Just discovered your channel and digging it. Currently playing through all the games on the SNES Classic. Quick question though - what is your choice of drink before playing?
Thanks Steve, it's usually Jameson or Tullamore Dew
these were some great games so many hours
This is a classic, 9/10
"If it's not broken don't fix it", yeah excellent advice that not every game took (I'm looking at you SOR3). I haven't played this game, but know it and seems cool.
Underated.
Erik can attack, make him run fast and he knocks out opponents with his helmet.
