I had a switch that tested perfectly, the pto was 3.0 ohms, wires tested perfectly, turned out to still be the switch, I keep a good switch for testing, the tester switch worked, so even though the switch tested correctly, it still can be a bad switch..... Great video.

Theses electric clutch are going to keep going up in price as they keep failing

  • @JQUICK21

I know that the PTO clutch can be the problem but I don't know how to check that. It has a wire on it and also the clutch can be free spinning and not turning the blades. I have changed out all switch's. While mowing the blades would stop. This happened twice. So they stopped working/turning and I was able later on to start the tractor up and the PTO was working right off....but in a few minutes they stopped again. Now, I cannot get them them (the PTO) to work at all. Very frustrating!

At the homestead here we removed the electric clutch completely and now apply tension via a strong spring and idler pulley combo. To relieve tension on the drive belt the idler pulley is retracted via lever. We hate electric clutches and the spring system works better with no hassles.

Is there a relay between that switch and the PTO? That click I assume is the relay. My switch is tested good and I just ordered another relay just in case. Hope it's the right one!

I'm fighting an electrical issue on a cub cadet also. The switch doesn't click the clutch, but I have continuity through the pins. The clutch measures 3.7 on my ohms meter. I just replaced one that was at 3.1 and it was good to go....Any thoughts. I had used the tractor after I had replaced the fuse and all was going well and was going through my grass very easily...then all of a sudden it stopped on the hill....I wish I had a garage to have a hoist like that. I've got to settle for a 3 ton jack...

We have that mower. We've tried the pto switch and the checked the clutch. Everything is good, but it still will not engage. Any suggestions?

Is there a fuse on the PTO? Someone told me to check that also, but I can't find one.

Thanks for great vid ! Found our yellow wires on female side of blade PTO switch, had slid back out of plug. On initial inspection wire felt good and secure, until we saw connecter tab at bottom of plug. Hope it helps someone !

I bought a 2008 RZT 50 for $250 (in 2020)because the guy replace the pto and still didn't fix it. After finding a schematic, I trace it down to both reverse switch were bad. Just jumping both was all I had to do. Actually all I had to do was to jump one of them to get it to work. The diagram show that if both handle are pulled back it means you are in reverse. Home owners version of mowers need to shut off the blade in reverse. Now I think I need to rebuild both Trans. Keep those videos coming.

Thank you great video. I have a similar problem with my Gravely. I have to pull the pto several times before it will engage. I will try your procedures. Thanks for the enlightenment.
