Though not in the same league, people tend to forget that “Lost In Space” predated “Star Trek” as an episodic science fiction series with a continuing cast.

forget is the right word. LIS is worth forgetting.

@@RobertR3750 For many of us SF television fans, most certainly NOT the entire series.

@@michaelschramm1064the first few episodes of LIS were far different than what it eventually became. It’s rather shocking.

@@RLucas3000 Opinions will vary, but it was not quite that linear a regression. The two parter, (“The Keeper”), midseason’s “Invaders of the Fifth Dimwnsion” and The final episode of season one (“Follow the Leader”) are generally considered a high point of the series. Also, several of the initial episodes in season three were excellent, better than many of Star Trek’s S3 episodes.

People who know the history of Star Trek tend not to forget that as Roddenberry first pitched his show CBS which evidently had no interest in Star Trek, they just wanted to pick his brain for ideas for their own show.

You can see how different he is in that first pilot. He refined himself in the second one, then became the Spock we know by the dawn of the television series👍

Star Trek was clearly bassed on the 1957 movie Forbdden Planet in many ways. The focus on the captain, first officer and medical officer....in fact the thee C57D crew mentions "the united Planets" which star trek renamed as "United federation of Planets" but wa basically the same thing. the way the captain always falls in love with the female lead...etc
