“Recognition” is key to dvaita, dualism. When a lock recognizes a key, or a cone a photon, or a lipid micelle a nutrient, in that recognition is an evidence of universal intelligence. In it lie, and out of it arise the possibilities of creation. However, it is also a limiting paradigm. What takes “mere” recognition to “meaning”, the telos that auspicates agency, is the primary cause. When God says, “let there be light”, he then had a purpose in mind, and that divine purpose fully determines HIS command (that there be light) and the design and function of light which, inevitably, then there was. What this means is that an enzyme recognizing a substrate is only a thing in as much as the outcome of the recognition is, proximally or indirectly “productive”. The telos itself is made intelligible in Vedantic teachings. It is my hope Dr. Naidu can get an interview with a Vedanta scholar.
