    Lyrics below.
    Fe vældur frænda rogi
    føðesk ulfr i skogi
    Fe er firða gaman
    Frænda rogu
    gravseiðis gata
    Ormen ligg i kveile
    i løyndom vakar under
    Som ei helufallen åker
    Strif dom frender råker
    English translation:
    Fe causes strife amongst friends
    The wolf feeds in the forest
    Fe is joy to man
    strife among kin
    path of the serpent
    The snake lies coiled
    Hidden, it waits beneath
    like a frost-covered field
    Strife that kinsmen suffer.
    These lyrics are official. Taken from digibook.

      Correct me if I'm wrong but Hávamál is not a language.
      +electrond:
      Not necessarily, the Hávamál was originally written in old Norse, and of all the modern day germanic languages Icelandic, I believe, is the closest. Of course there have been some changes to grammar and sound/pronunciation "shifts" but Icelandic is actually close enough to be able to read Old Norse...not so sure about Norwegian I feel it is far too gone from the original Old Norse (still a very beautiful language though). All that said, the roots of most words remain un- (or slightly) changed, and a keen enough listener can uncover the etymology and meaning.

      Sorry for late reply here. But it depends where in norway he is from. Some northern dialects of norwegian sounds somewhat like this. Modern Norwegian which is spoken in bigger cities and southern parts of Norway is not like this at all. But as i said, northern parts, smaller areas far away from the cities have some dialects which can sound like this.

    This rune, Fehu, is commonly used as a warning, and is a common theme in many Norse stories, the best examples includes the entire story of Beowulf. This is the rune of fortune, of gold. Of greed. This song is a warning, as much as it is praise. They knew the value of gold, but this is a warning to anyone who is greedy, much the same as Beowulf. Men become corrupted, destroyed by greed for power and riches. My favorite example is that of the tragedy of Fafnir, destroyed by Loki, ultimately killed by a curse of his own brothers creation.

Also, its only those who were deemed worthy by the Valkyries that could go to Valhalla so to just fall in battle wouldnt mean you went to Valhalla.

    Many people seem to forget that Scandinavia never stopped being formidable, Sweden kept right on being a dominant force in Europe until War became more about attrition and industry then maneuver and drilling in the 1800s. And the Swedish military is still one of the best man for man (the problem is one Scandinavia has always had, not enough men to act as more than a speedbump for say, Russia.).

      And even then there is more immigration between the Nordic countries than there is from outside of them.
      More Finnish people are moving into Sweden than there are immigrants into it from every Muslim dominant country on Earth.
      You're like the twits who complain about Black people in Britain when they make up less than 2% of the population.

    Fe is a rune, fehu. It means wealth/cattle/greed. Wealth is joy to man, and greed causes strife amongst friends. At first i was confused as Fe in my language means faith, which also makes some sense, but then i studied more. Folk-lore is fascinating as people of old had a natural wisdom to them. Also, in the series Vikings, this song Fehu is played in the scene of the first raid into Northumbria, although it sounded awesome with the scene itself, I now think it was put there with a purpose given the lyrics and the meaning of the song! awesome.

    • @Manchin2be
      @Manchin2be Před 10 lety +1

      You are not to far from it...F in runes..sir (Fe) , also means; followers, assets, money, employees etc..in end a "status" achived only by those who can understand "runes"..Odin himself in his neverending "lust" for knowledge whent down to the world of the Norns;
      Since the runes’ native home is in the Well of Urd with the Norns, and since the runes do not reveal themselves to any but those who prove themselves worthy of such fearful insights and abilities, Odin hung himself from a branch of Yggdrasil, pierced himself with his spear, and peered downward into the shadowy waters below. He forbade any of the other gods to grant him the slightest aid, not even a sip of water. And he stared downward, and stared downward, and called to the runes.....this is how Odin got the power of the "runes" and was able to communicate through them. Only way!

      Glad You enjoyed it sir, I do not think it a coincidence. I think the Norns are spinning your threads towards them, for the time being, and the Norns want you to be aware of them;....Urd, verdande and skyld...(best way to translate is; past, present and future) in modern terms.
      The very fact you seek knowledge, as a student, somehow gained you attention. It might be the norns have spinned something "great" for you!
      Knowledge was the biggest lust of Odin...so much he went to the well of Ygdrasil (three of all life and all 9 worlds) and cut out his one eye as rent to drink of the well of knowledge, at the root of the well at Jotunheim (home of the giants) guarded by the Jotun Mime....This is a a great story and there are many versions (read it;-) ). My personal read/belief is that Odin gave up his one eye to the well of the past/knowledge, cause only by looking to the past, can you understand the future--which makes sence in a scientific paradigm;-)
      Best regards!..ps. be aware of the ravens, it just might be Hugin ("Thought") and Munin ("Memory"). Odins two ravens having a good look at you;-)..Rest in sure the norse "religion" is alive and well;-)
