🤤 How to Make Sweet & Sour Sauce, Like a Chinese Chef #Shorts
My dad was a chinese chef and this was the last recipe he taught me before he passed. Thank you for sharing it to everyone else!
Thank you I’m immediately stealing this
This is more for me
4 tbsp Ketchup
4 tpsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp corn starch
3 tbsp vinegar
2 tbsp water
What is the oil your dad put in pan before he put in sauce
Probably vegetable oil or canola oil
You are so lucky that you still have your dad, mine lived to be 93 but passed away 3 years ago and we still miss him very bad.
Please tell dad that this is my go to sweet-and-sour sauce now. Thank you so much for sharing.
I did this recipe twice and it’s so good! Takes just a few minutes and I mix it directly in the pan. Great video!
NEED to make this! your dad is the coolest 😎
he is very cool ❌🧢
I made this last night and it was absolutely delicious 😋
Definitely trying this 👍
Omg, you COOK IT! THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING WRONG ALL THESE YEARS 😭 I didn't even think to add cornstarch and cook it... I knew it was ketchup, brown sugar and vinegar, but I didn't know what I was doing wrong because it never came out right. I feel dumb. No wonder my sweet and sour pork was always fine, but not my dipping sauce 🤣😭
Delicious! Made it and saved to my fave recipes
Man I love sweet and sour shrimp! Thanks for sharing the sauce recipe!
Hello I just happened to be on CZcams in this video popped up first time I ever saw this channel thank you so much for sharing your dad's delicious recipe I just made it today which is Sunday May the 19th 2024 thank you so much for sharing the sauce is delicious and many blessings to you and yours
Just made this for dinner and it was really good
No way!. I am gonna try this the second I get a chance!
Pretty darn good I scaled it up and made sweet and sour pork for my dad👍
Finallllyy I'm early heree!!😂😂 thank you for the simple and easy recipe🤗
Thank you
Chinese food is awesome 😎
finally sweet and sour
Yummy!!!!
Thanks for sharing this recipe. You Saved dinner tonight. I didnt know What i was gonna do with my chicken. With this sauce on my chicken, sum rice, and veggies on the side? Thats A Win in My Book😉
So glad I came across this, can't wait to use it on chicken wings!
I've been cooking for thirty years, and this is the first I've heard of using ketchup as a base for sweet and sour sauce. I've always made mine from a mixture of brown and white sugar, vinegar and water, cooked to reduce and then thickened with a cornstarch slurry. Fun fact: if you add soy sauce, you'll end up with a teriyaki sauce that's not at all bad. 👍🤘✌️
I usually put little bit sweet soy sauce n sugar, coz i dont have brown sugar
Yummy
Can you guys do a garlic chilli sauce pleasee?
What kind of vinegar ?
I used white wine vinegar and rice wine vinegar. Both worked just fine.
( I would not use apple cider vinegar or red vinegar )
I didn’t realize how similar sweet and sour sauce is to what I put on my meatloaf lol
Plum sauce?
Can you use this as a bbq sauce on spare ribs?
I found this way too salty! It's very similar to another recipe I've been using though. Just not nearly so much salt. I'll incorporate the two with some tweeks. It should be perfect then. Thank you for sharing.
Please make ketchup prawns, the Lau's way!
Can he show us how to make duck sauce?
Please say yes 👏🏼
Lau 叔叔 can you teach us how to cook pork liver and kidney. Cook it like restaurants style smooth soft and perfectly cook that it won't 出血 after you cook it. I like to eat it but is hard to cook it that it wouldn't 出血 afterwards. Thank you if you can teach us.
What is the preferred vinegar?
That’s my question to you is it rice, vinegar or white vinegar? What’s the best vinegar ?
Just made for the second time since this video was released. Made with your dad's sweet and sour pork both times. So good.
What vinegar do you use 🤔 is it malt vinegar thanks
Rice vinegar
What's the best type of vinegar to use for this or does it matter?
I was just wondering the same.
Thinking the same. I'm thinking white. Or rice
Think white wine vinegar is what I usually use, but I ran out last time and tried it with apple cider vinegar. Tasted more or less the same
Ahhhh essentially it’s ketchup on crack.
I've seen varieties with fruit juice and such. Your dad didn't use that?
Why did mine come out so vinegary 😩 was not as sweet as the sauce at my local restaurant and was very dark compared to as well...is there a way without ketchup?
What did he pour into the pan before the ingredients in the bowl?
Oil
What could I use in place of ketchup? I don’t have any and I don’t really need it in my fridge 😅
Chinese Cooking Demystified has a thing on that, I think!
Tomatoe paste or sauce & added sugar
What did your dad pour in the pan right before he put in the sauce mixture???
Just looks like vegetable oil
B-but where's the pineapple :( 🍍🍍
Neither tomatoes or pineapple are native to China. The original sweet and sour sauce did not have tomato or pineapple, only sugar and vinegar. The recipes vary among chefs, some Chinese restaurants put pineapple in sweet and sour sauce others use tomato ketchup and some use both tomato ketchup and pineapple. Chinese Pickled vegetables can be added to the sweet and sour sauces as well. I have two vintage Chinese cookbooks that I've been reading recently. Circa 60's and 80's.🙂
