One of the most important things to focus on while paddle surfing is your footwork. Where you place your front and back feet while pumping down the line, bottom turning and top turning is critical while sup surfing.
Watch this sup surf tutorial video to learn where your feet should be during different situations on a wave. Mastering your footwork while sup surfing will help you turn better, pump down the line and have more fun on the water. - Sport
OMG! The best CZcams instruction on footwork. So simple. I tried it this morning and voila, effortless cutback!

This is brilliant. Too many people have told me about looking or pointing where to go, but I think these people are such natural surfers, they don’t know what they are doing as it's all second nature, and so can’t teach it. This is the first vid I’ve seen that talks about foot placement, engaging rails and fins. Totally makes sense now. Can’t wait to get out there and give it a try.
So glad I found this video. I'm self teaching myself SUP surfing at the moment and am undoubtedly moving my front foot to turn, and legitimately have buried the rail numerous times and was yet to understand why. Definitely makes me want to get out on a retreat!
Sometimes surfing is so secretive I wish I learned this years ago but I am very grateful I always study people and every time I go to the beach I always consider class in session
Awesome vid Chase, Great Tips!
Kick-ass tutorial bro! 👍🏻👍🏻
Your vids are really helpful, appreciate it. Cheers
Great stuff! Thank you
Thanks! Can't wait to get back in the water to try this out.
This video is awesome, i am watching it over and over and learning things every time. Thanks for making it really clear how to turn on a wave properly with a SUP surf. I had even bought the 2 videos called "SUP surfing Hawaiian Style" from Amazon (with some of the founds of C4 paddle boards showing technique)- and this video explains things much slower and better. And.. I have decided I WILL be down for one of the Blue Wave SUP surf camps, it's just a matter of time! Rock on.
Great info. Been struggling with this. Cheers
Great video!! Thank you
So great SUP surf tutorial video Chase, really clear and helpful to understand footwork while paddle surfing: great job!!!
Glad you found it helpful Giovanni!
A great help thanks
Great tips for front and back side riding. Great use of the paddle as a pivot point as well.
I learnt so much. Thankyou
Thank you for yours advices
Thank you for this video! It is the only one I watched so far (I have watched a lot) which makes sence and gives solid instructions and advise! Well done.
We're glad you found the video valuable! Come down and visit us in Costa Rica for some in-person instruction and video analysis at one of our all-inclusive retreats. Email info@bluezonesup.com for more info. Thanks!
Thanks, bro!
Outstanding video!!! I’ve got catching waves and balance completely down, but have really been struggling with getting to the next level and mastering turns. There are times when I’m able to just start a turn but I find most often I lose track of where I am on the wave because I didn’t know the optimal feet positioning until now!! Can’t wait to get back in water!!! Subscribed!
Thank you so much for this video! I needed to better understand the footwork for turning and I found this very helpful. Now, off to practice what I have learned from you. Some of my fellow paddle surfers have been to your camp. Hoping to come sometime. 🏄♀️😎☀️🌴

Great lesson. Easy like and subscribe! Looking forward to seeing more, , thank you.
Brilliant
thanks for that one! Something I have been working on.
Glad you like it! Makes a BIG difference to move that back foot.
A great video Chase! Really helpful. I was really interested in how early you start shifting your backfoot from side to side. Something for me to work on.
Glad it's helpful David! Good luck with implementing the movement!
great video! i have had a sup surf coach ask me many times to keep my stance hips width.you are wider throughout. any thoughts?
Hello. I really respect your videos and i am wondering if you recommend a lightweight board. I currently ride an isle 10 diamond tail. It is 20 some pounds. Is there anything lighter out there?
Hey on that front side cutback at the end, I see that you're stroking with the turn but then it seems like you're holding the paddle in the water after the stroke. Is that just keeping you stable? Are you slowing yourself down? Or is it nothing? Just keeping your body position? Thanks
Love the vids chase !
Ryan
Thanks so much for this: really helpful
wich size are these boards ?
In the area of second :52 Q: compared to an extremely loose set of trucks how similar is the experience of not burying the rails likened to speed wobbling out of a hill bomb and being forced to bail or re route ?
( I drive very tight trucks on a 32 x7.75)
This is a great informative video to come across
Surfing is feel. Feel comes from experience. You can't think yourself through it. You can maybe concentrate on doing one thing differently each wave, but things like "about 80 percent" of your weight on the rear foot are meaningless. Having the feel, it's easy to explain, but the explanation will be meaningless to anyone who doesn't already have it figured out.
Too technical for me. I just rip it up by instinct.
