  • I love hardtail MTB's so much. I grew up riding hardtails before enduro bikes, or downhill bikes. and to have an MTB that does everything so well is awesome. It was sick filming with scott again too at Woburn Bike Park and letting him have a play on the jumps too!

    Nice to see someone doing a good video about agro hardtails! I swear this is an unrepresented demographic these days.. there's loads of people who love 'em and would rather ride them than full sussers. Nothing sexier than a good hardtail.

    I have a great full suspension enduro bike but you can't beat the fun you can have on an aggressive hardtail, you have to pick lines more and focus more. So much fun!

    I love my mid '90's 26" hardtail...(of course upgraded parts, only the frame is original) 1x10, all XT, 2017 RS, NOS xt v-brakes though...Spike Spank bars, Nuke proof stem, Cane Creek headset,...etc...all that wrapped around an awesome Cromoly frame. Always puts a smile on my face. Yes, I know...it doesn't have the geometry of newer bikes or disc brakes...but it's a helluva lotta fun!!

    Bought a 2017 Norco Torrent HT last year. Pretty much the same thing an aggressive HT. Because I missed a HT but mostly wanted a tough m, simple, quiver killer. Straight up funniest and best bike I've ever owned.

    Haha ... I am 58 and was going to jack it all in after years of MTB'ing and tearing my hamstring and shoulder in Morzine about 4 weeks ago ... now waiting on my San Quentin 3 to arrive hehe! just on the back of these vids! Ok I wont be ripping up any trees but I will look like I could when coast by!!!!! Can't wait and thanks for the inspiration.

    As much as I want I full-squish...I just can't let go of my 650B GT hardtail...she's an absolute beauty and blast to ride. I might even replace her with All-mountain Chromag build instead of a FS when the time comes to get a new bike.

      its a very nice bike, i own a san quentin 1 with a rockshox recon 130mm and i go downhill like all the full suspnsion bikes, even with a trek slash 9.7 i wash pushing him to move, its a hardcore bike really, marin have done a very nice job with this bike

    I ride a socialized pitch sport and it’s amazing, the tires are pretty thick so where ever there’s sand I don’t slip out as much

    Marin. I was gander'n at the San Quentin, until the local bike shop, added a ton of extra costs to the bike. Charging me shipping & handling, adjusting, and...assembly! No wonder small bike shops are becoming extinct. Opted for the Ragley Big AL. 29er...is the way-to-be.

    We send it all on hardtails here in the Ozarks USA. OZ Trails baby! Ive personally never owned a fullsus. A Ragley and a NukeProof Scout 275 is all this man needs to quench his thirst for shred! The Ragley is a SUPER sick whip and the NP Scout is in finishing custom build stage. So looking forward to comparing the two heads up! The Rag will be damn tough to beat I'm afraid..... ✌

    Matt you've really got me thinking now about sticking a super short stem on my Giant XTC 2 hardtail cross country bike. To see how it handles hitting bigger jumps. Not sure the geometry will be right, it's great for just hacking through the woods and along bridleways, but a shorter stem could possibly turn it into a real handy all rounder. What i'm thinking is that the 8 mile round trip riding to my local jumps is a ball-ache doing those miles on my DJ bike. Food for thought.

      Yeah you should do it! It’ll increase your control over the bike for sure. Might feel a bit less comfortable on long rides but I’d side with enjoying short decents over climbs any day!!

    Ok so good one I'm bout to purchase a dirt MTB but witch one is the best for me I usually race hut park and dirt jumps but I want to start hitting MTB trails and would need rear shocks but I've never ridden rear shocks hows the jumping then harder I would assume but an easy-going landing so should I go with a slope style mtb or a dirt jumper is really coming down to it

    Been looking at getting one of these for a while now. I see it shreds on downhill or anything jumps. But how does it pedal uphill for a hardtail? Wondering if the geometry makes it kind of a pain.

    In your opinion what's the best hard tail bike for this type of riding? I'm looking to get into the sport but dont like rear suspension but want to pedal up/down hills, jump, hit burms, wheelies, etc. A bmx mountain bike basically.

      I was debating if i should get a nuke proof but i decided to get a fuji nevada 2.0 2017 i don't regret the only thing that needs upgrading is the forks but its got lockable sus on the bars and xt gears and deore breakes its a dream

    That cassette sounds mental, i used to have a marin about 20 years ago, it was the lightest bike ever, passed the little finger test, they have come a long way, that bike is sick, how expensive is that cassette BTW?

    Just went through a long process of deciding on full sus or hardtail and I went with hardtail just because I’ve never even touched a full sus and I’ve never ridden with shocked front forks so I figured I’d try that out before going full sus.

    im about to be getting the san quentin 2. i am curious as to what spec fox fork youre running, and since you helped with the frame design, what travel fork did you build it around?

      Henry Hopkins hey dude. All the testing was done with the same bike you’re buying, but since getting mine I’ve decided to run a 160mm fork which is very very slack but works well for me. I’ll swap back to a shorter one again soon though

    Yo Matt! I recently bought a San Quentin 1 and although it hasn't even been delivered yet I'm already looking for upgrades. I noticed the frame of the San Quentin 1 has 141mm open dropouts and I found it really difficult to find a wheel that would fit those dropouts? do you maybe have a solution for this, or maybe some recommendations? Cheers!

    I recently rented a FS DH bike at a local ski area. It was fun, but I just couldn't feel the terrain like on my hardtail. I like the aggressive handling of my HT, and I also like its massive torque when climbing.
