"......I'll tell you when it's art again". That joke was underrated.
Explain
@@Knowdis96 he was excited when he said that
While these parents are busy protesting books and pictures of sculptures, their kids are probably watching phub
Probably?
As long as it's straight.
it' has nothing to do with politics but you right
@@ErwinBlonk earworm went full retard political and filled have the glass. 👏 👏 👏
It really must suck to be such a mark for liberal propaganda. The Trans lunatics are coming for the kids. You'll only be able to deny it for so long, before some jerkoff like Bill Maher fjnally says it aloud and permits you to agree with him.
The stone scratching sound effects combined with Michael's screams of pain were great! 🤣
I saw this comment before I saw the moment and thought it was gonna be him scratching Michael Che, but the real thing was SO much funnier.😂😂😂
Omg it was perfect 🤩
"AAAAAAAAAAAA-"
I cracked up watching that scene.
Michael LONGFELLOW? heh heh, cute.
That opening bit with the rock grinding and screaming as David turns his head.... that was so well done. Such a simple thing, yet so effective. They nailed it.
This dude kills it EVERY SINGLE TIME. There is something about his delivery that I love
For over 500 years no one thought of this statue as “pornography”. Even through the prudish Victorian era, no one was bothered … no one. Our society is moving backwards.
The Sistine Chapel ceiling: The Pope, don't know which one had the figures painted over with drapery to cover the genital area. A lot of it has been removed but some of it couldn't be because of the paint used. It was during a time much like what Florida is now. France, Italy and more are full of art depicting the human form in painting and in sculpture, they don't censure any of it and they are far more religious than here. We have been to church here and in France on Sundays. French Cathedral that sat probably 500 and it was standing room only.
To be honest with you I learned in art history that this is what people do all the time. 1-minute society is okay with nudity in it . the next minute they're not okay with it.
Unfortunately religion actually plays a big aspect in this decision-making as well.
indeed
once, custom officers confiscated my father's magazine with a Michelangelo's David picture on it, because it was deemed pornographic.
It happened some forty years ago, in Saudi Arabia!
There was one person in the prudish Victorian age who was shocked and offended by a replica of this specific statue.. But, y'know, it was just the person the whole age was named after, so she probably doesn't matter much.
The price one pays for voting in retarded elephant party.
The head turning gag was so stupid lol I loved it 😂
I was rolling 😂
“Do you wanna see it from below?” had me wheezing. He delivered that line so earnestly! Both Michael’s killing it here😂
When my kids were in elementary school their Dad and Step Mom took them to Europe on spring break. My son came back and told me all about David. We never once considered it obscene or pornographic. I’m happy they were able to experience art in person.
Well, Europe isn't that prudish about nudity the way America is. I envy you.
Only inbred trash is offended by nudity in art.
@@canaisyoung3601 your response makes no sense. Her kids are not from Europe, nor dishes. They were on vacation 🤦♀️
When I saw nudity as a kid at the Chicago art museum I started screaming and my parents had to take me out of there. Some kids have different reactions 😂
Michael Longfellow. Perfectly cast. In stone. (Thank you, I'll be here all night...)
He really reminds me of Dennis Miller

A perfect surname for that sketch.
Thank you
I was in 6th grade in a Tampa, Florida public school in about 1956. We studied Classic Art for about a week or two, then our teacher took us on a Field Trip to the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. We enjoyed the Artworks there, and we certainly were not taken aback or frightened when we saw the replica of the Statue of David in the garden. We 6th graders just looked at it as Art. What has happened to Florida? Has it become some kind of "backwoods" place where they don't even have the common sense of 6th graders?
Sadly, yes. 😢
Back in Utah in the mid nineties, a teacher had a bunch of these nude statues and a few parents complained, but they didn't make her take them down.
Yeeeeeèr! Class of '02 Thomas Jefferson Senior High School, what's good👍🏾🤛🏾
It has nothing to do with art, pornography, or kids, it's all about politics. Florida is a major swing, that is now fully republican, and they want to keep it that. So they basically do and say anything to go as far to the right as possible. That way Florida will never swing back democrat!
@@iantodd6840 Wouldn't they swing back anyway with many from cold states move there ?
Kudos to Michael for getting himself covered in paint more than once on this episode. 😂
Was seeing the painted underwear supposed to be part of the joke? Seriously asking.
@@katekramer7679 I was wondering the same thing
I guess they used this sketch as a primer haha
@@asatorhayha I hope this excellent joke gets the likes it deserves

"For the children" is Never for the children. It's adults wanting to maintain some control over a scary world full of stuff that scare them.
Exactly!
Finally, someone said it.
Except Wu-Tang. Wu-Tang is for the children.
You got it. But they are minupulated into this fear. That's the infuriating thing.
@@CaptainTenille Hey, hey, Wu Tang is nothing to fuck with!
Are we not gonna talk about the Italian Matt Foley "in a man down by the river" joke, because it was hysterical. 😂
Or the fact that the writers were right: SNL does have an Italian version. It's called SNL Milano. No word on whether or not it has full penetration or a gay Matt Foley.
"Have you ever been in a fight with your dong out?" That is such a great question.
For Harambe, of course. 😂
"It really distracts the other guy" 😂
Fight Club vibes
"Rock out with your rock out."
@@matthewjames206 Hahaha that was a good line
Michael kills it everytime when he shows up at Weekend Update! Marcello, Devon, Michael, Molly they are literally proved themselves in their first season!
Which is funny, because the cold open of the Miles Teller episode made them out to be poor replacements for the cast members who left. I know it was SNL making fun of itself like when they did that sketch about using Kerry Washington a lot because they had no black female cast members at the time, but that cold open had me worried that this season would be one of the bad ones.
the fuck do you mean no they haven’t??
"literally"
@@jamesmcinnis208 ?
He is funny and hilarious and kinda hot
I love that he refroze back the original position at the end🤣
You could see him pre-breaking in anticipation of the head-turning gag ☺
The amount of braincells I lost reading the article about the teacher being forced to resign for this is unreal. THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS!
I read that the principal was reinstated. I hope so!
@Susan Keith I actually didn't hear about that, I'll have to check it out to see if he was put back.
Michael Longfellow is such an excellent cast member
"Wow, that hurt like hell." Delivered EXACTLY like Norm Macdonald. Goddamn that was good.
The spirit of Norm is with them. “Can’t fire me now, I’m dead!”
HOLY SHIT i knew that reminded me of somebody
He does remind me of Norm. His body language too. He has Norm’s wide, straight shoulders.
What does the Lord damning people have to do with it?
Completely agree.
Michael Longfellow was perfectly cast here. If David had been a real person, he probably would've been a lot like this.
He was quite beautiful when he arrived as a statue. Not even kidding.
the Renaissance Twink
There has been some Italian dude posing for the artist. I hope the joy was mutual.
Penis size - as I hear - was depicted like that because it was thought to be reverse proportioned to thinking ability. So an important, holy guy like David would have a teeny wieny one.
His last name fits the role of the David statue perfectly!
Who?
That scream is beautiful lol
this is michael's best skit so far, he played it perfectly and the head turning moment was great
The scream and the grinding noise when he turns his head. 😂
Seeing Michael as Michelangelo’s David made my morning! 😂
0:36>> .. that excruciating grinding sound of his neck.. 😂😂😂
I like how Michael is the go-to guy for portraying controversial figures.
This all started when he play Puxatawny Phil. Then came that Dilbert costume which reaffirms my belief that the SNL crew members either do the same drugs as the writers or Lorne hired ex-Hollywood hair, costume, and makeup people, because I remember a time when SNL's hair, makeup, and costumes were kinda basic and you needed to use your imagination or rely on acting chops and a good performance to picture the cast member or guest host as the person he or she is playing.
Wow that head-turning was epic. Also, "I'm beautiful!" 😂🤣✌🏾
Seriously I was dying. Random stupid things like that sometimes are the funniest ever.
1:13 I thought the thing below Michael's waist was the knot holding his sheet up or something. The fact that it was actually David's pubic hair is GOLD! 🤣
They slipped that right in 😂 and the way he pat slapped it I died ☠️
Me too 😂😂😂!
David's pubes are marble, not gold!
You meant it was stone, not gold lol
What sheet? It's undies.
Michael give such Norm Macdonald vibes and I love it. If he stays on long enough I hope he ends up on weekend update.
Agree!
"our matt foley lived in a man down by the river" lmfaooo
I just love the characters they have Longfellow play on the weekend update, I lost it with the screams when he was turning his head
“Wow, that hurt like hell”. I heard Norm’s intonation there 😲
that longfellow kid is gonna go far. his standup is hilarious, too
He needs more skits. Love his deadpan delivery.
Michael had me longing to see more of his Longfellow! 😄
I like how Longfellow keeps his tunic over his shoulder for the entire appearance, just like the statue lol
That head turn though 😂😂😂
the Italian version of SNL 🤣🤣🤣
There are actually overseas versions of SNL. I know the UK had one and there is/was one in South Korea. I don't know about an Italian version that actually allows sex and a homosexual version of Matt Foley.
Anyone else get Vinny Vedicci vibes?
@@johnnelson6124 Not really

That screaming head turn gag was so silly... I loved it!!!

Wow, Michael Longfellow had me on stitches the whole time!
Having had the chance to actually see Michelangelo's David in person, should definitely be learned about. Renaissance art is amazing history. Leave it to Florida to be the one's here😅
Edit: The principal got fired for showing this....that's stupid af lol.
"The Simpsons did it," over 30 years ago!
It's Florida.
They also can't count either.

3:15 I love Che’s immediate off-screen “wHat?”
That deadpan scream was fantastic.
Michael Longfellow is such a refreshing natural talent cast member. I would have loved to be there when they pre wrote this particular scene and when someone mentioned: “how funny would it be if we asked David if he could actually turn his head?”. So creative & well written. Bravo! 😅
Standards and Practices must have a lot of fun with this one!
"I'll tell you when its art again" LMAO
I taught art to kids in a private school for 30 years. I had to cover the goods on all naked artworks of historical importance, as decreed by the administration. So I used stickers. The kids were totally more intrigued in exploring art after that...
Whyyyyy😂😂😂😂😂😂
That makes it so much worse 😂😂😂😂
When I was a kid in the 1960s, we saw nudity from hippies at McDonalds and baseball parades. We were told nudity is natural and don't stare or point as that's rude. Somehow I managed to live until my senior age raising children to adulthood with all of us being responsible contributing law abiding citizens.
Good teachers always find a way!
Nobody portraying Michael-angelo's David and David's "controversy" could be better named than Michael's LONG-FELLOW!😊
A man down by the river is the funniest thing I’ve heard on SNL in 5 months
So good.
You can get the statue of Michelangelo in Animal Crossing. Animal Crossing was released in 2001. People in Florida truly live under a rock.
Hopefully, not the rock that David is made from.
Getting Michael shirtless for this extended period was 🔥
“God, Americans are uptight” did not get enough love 😂
This might be up there with Bowens impersonation of the Titanic. This was fucking hilarious 😭✋🏾
Iceberg
I found this one even funnier! So many good moments.
That's why it's the greatest. An old ass piece of marble still relevant in its composition.
Damn, Longfellow has become the undisputed champ of WU desk pieces this season. Well done.
But Bowen Yang is still holding strong as the talk show trash lantern fly and Jafar, with Jafar being the best one. And Longfellow just started. One minute, he's appearing as himself and cracking jokes about his divorced parents in the same way Pete Davidson cracked jokes about his dead dad, widowed mom, and the mental disorders that have been with him since childhood; the next minute, Longfellow's playing a vaping groundhog, a live-action version of Dilbert, and Michaelangelo's David.
They are LANDING EVERY WORD!!! 😂😮😂
@3:19 Re: What DAVID is referring to: "The SNL w/ "Italy's Matt Foley who has A man who Lives 'in' a Man Down by the River".. (Referring to Chris Farley's Motivational Speaker's iconic skit on SNL of yester-year). This classic parody character for troubled youth was always a popular favorite from a gifted comic (Farley) who never disappointed. Farley's passionate speaking in the guise of a realistic burnt out Mall Santa, Classroom visits wearing out-dated clothes, or jumping out of closets in a Family's home in a useless way to teach kids drilling in them to study harder and stop causing trouble, i.e.: randomly throwing eggs at houses and to stop impish pranks like putting flaming Dog Poop Bags on people's porch after ringing their doorbell and running away, laughing. David Spade and Christina Applegate broke character (long before Lindsay Lohan made it popular with her Disney sketch in Debbie Downer, or the Alien Abduction). As the awkward and portly Matt Foley's cartoonishly-funny physical comedy exerted efforts trying to convince kids the pitfalls of smoking pot, avoiding study for school exams and a feudal attempt convincing them to instill a drill-sergeant's yelling demands to try and discipline their delinquent actions, otherwise they, too would consequently live in "A van down by the river". Without spoiling it, hopefully viewers can view the comic masterpiece Lorne Michaels has panned out for decades. It was so popular, the Matt Foley skit might have been made into a movie had Farley not died so young. RIP Chris Farley & Phil Hartman who is also in the skit! That being said, Michelangelo's David is on view at the Accademia Museum in Florence.
Surprised the audience didn't laugh harder. That joke killed me.
Thank you! I had NO idea what this joke was about.
Thank you for your intelligent background explanation of this hilarious skit.
this sketch was surprisingly good - better than I expected
Michael Longfellow is a freaking great addition to SNL! Love when they give him moments to shine! This was hilarious
One of best SNL sketch of the season it was so funnier especially Michael being alive as Michelangelo David statue.
We always joke about the Us not having culture, but reality always manages to one-up our expectations
I'm just sad we didn't see Michael's Longfellow
Omg the scream when he turned his head was so unexpected 😂😂😂
Seeing it the second time really makes me appreciate it more.
Great writing and acting. No wonder it's a youtube hit.
This dude's awesome already. Energy of Mulaney, Hader and Fred Armisen combined!!!
And a ton of Norm.
"and I'm a very pretty boy" the delivery on this cracks me up.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 need more sketches like this!!!
"ok, now it's pornography" made me snort
I took an art history class, in college, & the professor was very passionate about anything he presented to us, it actually made it more interesting. He showed us David &, while being a little sheepish, pointed out that David's testicles were hanging low, meaning he was "ready for battle."
There was an SNL sketch on season 39 (Paul Rudd with musical guest One Direction) that was about Michaelangelo and how everyone made fun of the small genitals of his David statue, even though that was the style at the time.
_pointed out that David's testicles were hanging low, meaning he was "ready for battle."_
Huh? What was he even _talking_ about?
@@Bill_Garthright I think he meant it like a "testosterone" thing (he was a male professor). I also hear that, like a woman's breasts/genitalia, testicles aren't exactly the same. And who knows, maybe, at the time, that's what they believed??
Because of penis size insecurity of the age, penises were depicted as smaller to celebrate masculinity without being threatening to males.
Ok I had to pause after the head turn for 2 solid minutes so I could finish lmfao
that scream turning his head fucking got me rolling on the ground laughing
and im at work
They did a very good job of sculpturing and contouring his body. I love the SNL special effects people!
Michael has some early Norm MacDonald influence in his delivery 😂😂😂❤
Im drawing him for my college art class and we had a debate about this
"The Simpsons did it," over 30 years ago!
Yeah, the episode where Marge gets the violence on Itchy and Scratchy toned down, prompting the kids to actually go outside and play because of how boring it's become, but when her censorship group goes after the David statue for nudity, Marge is branded a hypocrite because she doesn't see anything offensive about it.
Hey, do you comment on VT stuff? I think I know you
This confirms it Michael Longfellow is my new favorite😂❤
The Matt Foley joke didn't get the appreciation it deserved
“Our Matt foley lived in a man down by the river” IM DEADDDD
I went on a small tour of the Vatican. Just our family and one other- a mom, a dad and two boys around 11 and 13. They were from Tennessee and were all wearing Jesus shirts. They were absolutely HORRIFIED by the nudity in the Vatican. I was horrified that they traveled all the way to Italy and had no concept of Renaissance art.
love that i knew it'd be michael bc of the costume work it would inevitably involve. don't know who's idea it was for him to be the go-to guy for characters with extensive make-up but what a choice lol
I think after they had him as Puxatawny Phil, they decided to step up their game, which is why we got Michael Longfellow as Dilbert (which was highly disturbing) and now this (which is equal parts funny, disturbing, and kinda hot).
It says a lot about Professionally Outraged Parents that they don't even know there's a difference between "nude" and "pornographic".
Pornographic , FYI, is when it's one of the more explicit Zeus and Leda. Her just standing there and petting the swan's head doesn't count either.
I laughed so hard. Hilarious.
This made me laugh so hard I also cried for all the times I hurt and then wiped those tears for all the times that people were being petty in my space and in my area
