In one of interviews Uematsu-san said that he imagined Cloud standing in rain during night while he was writing this song, and I think he nailed it.
This song has HUGE crisis core vibes. I remember when the song was 1st unveiled I was super skeptic about it. Once you finish the game and this song starts with the credits, it hit me like a train! It is so incredible good!
Yeah I agree. Crisis Core brought that country rock vibe to FFVII and apparently with this song it lingered

Same composer, for the same game. It is made to fit the old OST. It is normal to be confused and think maybe some version of this was in the original.
Gods, this song gives me shivers every time. It wasn't in the original, but it borrows several chord progressions from its soundtrack. That, together with the lyrics, truly capture the bittwesweet feeling of the "Remake".
This is the perfect end credits song for this game. I can't even imagine anything better.
If you haven't played the original game, you wouldn't know the significance of this song and what it means.
Takes me right back into Lockdown 2020.
In simple words, this song is about loss & grief and learning to forgive oneself and moving on.

0:30 that melody has been stuck in my head for so long man. the game itsself meh but the ending sure was emotional with this song + knowing what happens in the future.

FFVII Remake soundtrack is so good. The best part of the game for me, because the gameplay definitely wasn't it. It also looks gorgeous.

@@Vendrix86 classic mode makes the game even more boring. The game lacked mechanics to make it interesting and it just felt like a button mashing party against enemies with insanely long healthbars. Doesn't help that hard mode is locked for some reason until you beat the game once.
The most fun fights were always against other humans/soldiers because it actually made use of a lot of the good mechanics, but 90% of the enemies just felt like health sponges with uninteresting movesets. To this day I haven't forgotten how awful the house boss was.
