Performance "chips" can be found a lot of different places, and many times, make some BIG claims. Do They actually work? - Auta a dopravní prostředky
You forget that cars these days most of the damn hp is controlled by that ecu so adding the chip is beneficial .
No, I didn't forget that at all... There is a full video on the topic that discusses everything in much greater detail in the description.
I just put the Thornton chip in my truck and it’s definitely a lot quicker than it was, maybe that’s why they ask you what your driving before sending the chip out to you, it not one chip fits all
@@genevandyke4088 This is basically the exact point I'm making in the video. There's plenty of legit performance tuners or "chips" out there that can make a huge difference in performance in some cases. The crazy cheap ones that advertise working for any car are generally complete scams.
@@coltondoescarsyeah but you didn’t say that in the video
@@carsonwerner Yeah he did say that in the video...
Thank god..i thought i was the crazy one.
TO CLEAR UP ANY CONFUSION:
A link to an updated long form video on this topic is linked in the description that covers this topic in a lot more detail. For those not wanting to watch that video, please read below:
I literally said at the beginning that there are plenty of performance tunes, which are sometimes referred to as "chips" depending on the brand and platform that work very well. I am NOT saying performance tunes don't work. I have a 93 race tune on my Mustang and it definitely makes a noticeable difference. With that being said, however, there are plenty of claimed "performance chips" that quite literally do nothing. This is not just some random opinion I hold, as there have been actual tests done on some of these chips that involved examining the PCB and determining that it did nothing that could be dicerned outside of powering an LED to show that they were "on." Even Mighty Car Mods had a video about this exact topic years ago. I would recommend watching it. If a performance chip is making claims that are highly improbable or impossible, like improving horsepower, torque, fuel economy and more on ANY make and model, it's likely a scam.
The p
I do believe some of these plug in chips does change the pedal response time meaning making the car more snapper resulting in people believing they have more hp
@@user-pp9bl5gr1nYou're right. There are some "chips" that are designed for specific cars that can do a lot of different things, yeah. It's generally just the supposedly "universal" chips that you see on the internet with ridiculous claims that are totally bogus.
I use to run the RaceChip GTS tune and they seem to be a very reputable company out of Germany.. I ditched the piggyback tune since and got a flash tune on my car’s actual ECU from Blood type racing, another reputable company.. Now I’m wondering if i can run the racechip on top of the ecu tune 🤔🤔🤭🤪
I have one in my 2015 2ss 1LE and felt the difference. I took it off and drove 60 miles and felt it go back. Then placed it back in and drove for a while. Felt the power go back up
I have an Audi vortex performance chip that is working great.
Glad to hear it. Not all of them are scams, but some certainly are.
Thank you for the positive review, I drive a 2000 cavalier coupe . Already started modding. Pretty sure the chip will make a difference
@@georgerice4163dont get scammed man. Just did a quick search for chip tunes for ur car and all that came up were the scam chips going for $150
Hey I just ordered a vortex proformanxe chip for my 06 Pontiac
So is vortex a good brand ?
Not going to lie i was thinking about doing like the pedal commander or the roar pedal for my 08 Cadillac STS but idk
I mean, there's certainly products that actually have a major effect and are worth it. I don't have specific experience with either of those, but they are definitely more well known than a lot of the junk you see on Ebay/Amazon promising things that are impossible.
The roar pedal is the best bang for your buck if you want better throttle response. I got one on my Chrysler 200.
Throttle response controllers are good for removing the lag of the pedal now they don't add anything but give you more access to what you have in the vehicle.
I have one and it definitely wakes the throttle response, its worth the fun youll have
pedal commander works but its just an expensive throttle controller and it works. There are cheaper and better out there.
Eh...some will trim the fuel maps to lean out the engine a bit and give some power increases. Don't expect any miracles! We're talking less than 5hp for an n/a engine. Maybe up to 10-20 for a forced induction engine. Your money would be better spent on more air fresheners. My 2 anyway.
I got the vortex chip for my hyundai and i dont notice it much since its an older car but might just realise i got nabbed and wait to get a better car
What do you think about thorton chip tuners? Honest advice I lit just bought one and then saw this and other vids
@@loganrandall8786 I don't have any personal experience with them, but from what I've seen, I don't think I'd spend my money on them, unfortunately. They seem to fall into the category of generic performance chips that don't have any real way of making real performance gains like a custom tune will.
@@coltondoescars thanks so much for the feedback, at this pt I feel like a new horn would do more for my cars performance 😂
Iies risky but you actually can….he cappin😂
definitely doesnt know hes talking about, mine works just fine
@rated_tox1c990 Dude, like 10 seconds into the video I literally said that there are plenty of examples of performance tunes that work very well... No one is singling out your tune specifically.
I have an 07 crown Victoria police interceptor.
What performance chip would you prefer or think would be sufficient & works great with my car?
I'd look into actually tuning companies that offer support for your car, and see what they use. I would assume something like an SCT X4 would be a decent option. 👍
@@coltondoescars isnt the SCT x4 the Marty tune? I’m in California but it’s illegal here.
It's just a handheld tuning device that a lot of different companies can use to send you custom tunes on. It's very common and has a lot of applications.
Jb4 doest not mess around ,or GTS racechip its okay
There are certainly solid options out there from actual reputable companies.
If you go and get a race chip, it is Taylored towards your vehicle. The ones you’re explaining are knock offs on Amazon or Walmart.
Well... Yeah, that's exactly what I'm explaining, and that's the point.
What's a good recommendation for a car I am leasing?
Well, I suppose that would depend a lot on your budget, and what exactly you are looking for in a car. There's lots of good options.
@@coltondoescars $300 and under. Just need a bit more power. I have a 2023 Tucson and need a bit more power for passing etc
@@snuffaluffagus9527 If I'm honest, I'm not super well versed in the new car leasing world, but I can try to help. Obviously, you mentioned wanting more passing power. Since you currently own a Tucson, one question I have is whether storage space/practicality is important to you?
@Colton Does Cars I have a kid and stuff does go along with the kid so there's that lol
how would you improve your gas mileage then?
Best way to improve gas mileage, honestly, is to change your driving style. Certain mods like upgraded ignition components, or intakes can technically help with gas mileage, but not usually by a lot.
Lpg lol
Get cold air intake tune ur car does save gas and headers
Ride a horse
Or even better a bicycle for exercise as an occasional option
Very accurate
Monza Drake Box is working just fine on my car.
This dude has zero idea on what he’s talking about
There have literally been plenty of tests on this exact thing from different sources, but sure. 😂 Keep in mind, I'm not commenting on ANY performance tune. I have a tune on my Mustang. I AM talking about the so called "performance chips" that you will see on Ebay, Amazon or similar sites that say they work for any make and model and claim a bunch of stuff that's not possible.
@omenofficial I think you’re the one confused lol
@@doubled334 nah, it’s you 100%.
@@OmenOfficial can we have sex?
I am now dumber for watching this video. Jesus
Judging from this comment, that may have happened naturally.
dont use the LORDS NAME IN VAIN , whats wrong with you fool ?
Kia has 0ne 2.0 I4 that puts out 147 horse power and another same engine with a tune that puts out 167 horses that’s a huge difference so obviously there are tunes that work u just gotta get the real deal stuff and study 📚 Honda guys don’t ride around with laptops Gor no reason and Forte are all programmable I’m sure it can be done 10 horse even 5 is a huge difference in these slow bricks I love them but they are slow.
@@kingzionmusic I don't disagree that tunes as a whole are very important. Tuning is the most important thing to building a good car. In this video, I'm only referring to the cheap, knockoff "chips" you find on Amazon and eBay that genuinely do nothing. I have a video linked in a pinned comment that goes into much greater detail on this.
DiabloSport
Why don't you actually test
Maybe bc u don’t got a turbo wowowwwww
Whether or not a car has forced induction or not has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it would see results from bogus scam performance chips. A LEGIT tune can aid in performance on NA cars just as much as turbo cars in some cases.
@@coltondoescars true I got it to see my self shittttt I need real tune
You’re cute
the man said 😂
I will love to tune me 07 mercury milan but every time I call a tune shop they keep saying they don’t got this and that bro I just wanna make my car have more horsepower like I got money to it’s called a project car if I wanted to buy a fast car just so ppl can glaze my shi I been would’ve did it but i wanna create my dream car
And another thing not to be racist but I’m about to be why the hell it’s only the white ppl to act like that any other time I got to my friends shop full of ricans I always get treated with respect or when a group of asian kids was giving me compliments on my car but white ppl noooo them mfs laughing like I can ask my dad or mom to finance a bmw or scat
Definitely research tunes for your specific car. You might be able to find some info on forums or a tuning company that specializes in your vehicle.
