The discussion on diversity, appreciation, and its necessity is the most important thing in this podcast. Technical education, while important, is less than 10%; ability to learn from others is 90%.
I had seen so many mediocre students from India from run-of-the-mill regional and state colleges succeed immensely in USA. IITs are over emphasized.
What you learn in India is the appreciation for diversity. Languages, religions, and practices.
Real education begins with the first job. Exponentially over what's possible in any college, especially at a young age. Work matures individuals fast to accommodate and learn.
Pakistan's education system is not as much what is taught, but what is emphasized. By diminishing and otherizing the minorities, Pakistan lost the essence of what's important. Sure, a few individuals like this guest can grow beyond the Pakistani culture, but such are rare.

Let me burst Mr. Javed Iqbal's bubble about the talent in Pakistan and the potential boom in its service sector. Many mid-sized and semi-large companies abroad don’t have the funds or budget to outsource jobs to more expensive countries like India, the Philippines, or Malaysia. As these countries have become pricier, companies seek cheaper alternatives, including Pakistan. These jobs don’t require significant talent, and companies are aware of this, so they’re comfortable outsourcing to places like Pakistan. Even smaller Central Asian countries are filled with similar mediocre service sectors.

Market cap of TCS = 166.6 billion USD
Market cap of Alphabet (Google) = 2.18 trillion
Therefore, to compare CEO of BAT GBS with Sundar Pichai is laughable! India has matured from GBS to GCC (Global Capability Centers) for every top bank in the planet and not just English speaking. GCCs do complex finance work - from banking to capital markets to banking and capital markets technology. JP Morgan alone has more than 70,000 staff in India. IIT, AI, GBS, GCC whichever it is and however it is in other countries BAT took the initiative to bring a global giant to Pakistan keeping in view the potential it has. It's a big change and a fair opportunity for Pakistanis. Use it wisely 🇵🇰 💖🧿

For shared services business to prosper, middle managers from outside countries have to come to the location to train the employees. Internet training doesn't work for any complex roles. Pakistan's terror fountainhead status will act as a deterrent for such movements. Most global service centers have expats coming and training/working for a couple of years. In Bangalore, Bombay, Manila, Poland etc there are always such expats.
But half the countries of the world have issued travel advisories against visits to Pakistan!
Mr Jawed himself admits that the Australia head of BAT doesn't come to Pakistan to congratulate GBS. He only speaks to him in London!

It letteral equivalent is by god's grace.. which still is religious in nature

In response to some of the sarcastic comments below, let may say the following; a good friend of mine, an IIT Chennai grad who heads a CAD related group in the US told me on several occasions that his Pakistani group does amazing work and the talent he sees there is second to none. He also works in Chennai with their Chennai office. So whatever the gentleman is saying cannot be taken lightly. Talent is a human attribute, it will be there in all human beings. The big difference between developed and developing societies is that the degree to which their populations are able to actuate this potential. In traditional, conservative communities, this actuation is hampered by other considerations.
