The bad cardio during the early stages of his career probably has something to do with his alcoholism, if I'm not mistaken he was already a champ when he decided to quit drinking
I think this absolutely correct. On top of the alcoholism he was probably very unfocused and cutting corners in life in general
Yeah he was already national champ while being an alcoholic…you are right…I’m a former drug addict (now clean for 6 years) and let me tell you doing these stuffs really affects your physical capabilities…definitely played a big role on his work ethic as well
He was a drunk most of his kickboxing career, he did quit before he became a 2 division champ in Glory but i've watched every interview he's done about it and he never gives a date.
@@joshthemediocre7824He has already given a date. It was in 2012, after the fight against Jason Willnis (I don't remember his name exactly), where he (Poatan) lost because he was kicked a lot in the leg. Since then he has stopped drinking, but it is scary that he started training at the age of 22 and in some years he became world champion (while being an alcoholic)
@@Kaueh-hv3gtJason Willnis?
It’s wild how different his stance was in the beginning
and it did not work for him
The referee with white hair you can see in many of Poatan’s fights is one of the people responsible for keeping the kickboxing alive in Brazil, dedicating his life to this sport, giving young poor kid the opportunity to training for free and forming many athletes. Props to ‘mestre’ Hamilton Machado! 🙏
Ele é foda!
The irony that Alex's first kickboxing match was in a cage. Sometimes, forshadowing isn't just used in stories
I mean this is a story though lol
Huh never would’ve noticed that but that’s a neat little tech tip
It was written in Gods book.
@@MagnusGalactusOG TRUE!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯
Alex's career is written in the stars. The first fight in the cage and the standing TKO, then the rivalries with Wilnis, Izzy, Yousri and Almeida that transcend organizations and even sports. Not to mention how late he started training as a raging alcoholic. You could not ask for a more perfect outcome.
Who is here after Alex vs Hill?
yep
He gave him sweet dreams
let's be real who had hill for the win is just a stupid prediction
@@NooB-cs5ed I also used to see this comment a lot around the time of Charles vs Gaethje.
@@NooB-cs5ed basically every "MMA analyst" did
Random fact Poatan started training when he was 20 years old, so we are literally seeing someone with just a few years of training demolishing people who dedicated their lives to fighting
Started training at 22 no?
True but some people are actually born with the gift some people have to work hard hard to perfect it
bro at this point he almost got 2 decades of profesional fighting so it is like a life training
@@ezequielcorrea8302fr , what is he even talking about.
Tryhard glazing at display
When people say Alex has no chin or someone is going to beat him easily in his stand up game I know they have no idea what they are talking about
He's got that kill or be killed style, he's dialed it back at bit since the Izzy ko loss though.
@@ceedub3966he’s definitely more calculated after the Izzy KO
14:20
How crazy. Alex still has this scar below his left eye. Alex Pereira and Artem Levin were at UFC 300. Artem was in Arman Tsarukyan's corner.
Very well observed
bro said hold up let me cook to herb dean
Hulmc
Cesar Almeida is now on UFC too, and he has won his debut fight and his fight on the Contender Series.
sweet i didnt know that
What’s so interesting about Alex is that even in kickboxing he didn’t have a traditional kickboxing style but his own unique style that catered to his power as he wasn’t quick nor heavily reliant on kicks. It’s crazy though because his style perfectly fits for MMA. What this man has accomplished in less than 2 1/2 years in the UFC is very special and not talked about enough. Being champ in two divisions in less than 10 fights in the promotion is seriously unheard of and probably will never happen again
Facts, Pereira looks deceivingly sluggish and seems more into traditional instinctive striking style but yeah, power of deception, he has cunning striking IQ and continues to learn from his mistakes.
yh even in Glory they used to call him a strange boxer instead of a great kickboxer, like he was fighting with a capoiera dance style
18:16 the staredown was lowkey tuff af
why were they throwing tho🤣
@@gomerpyle691I’ve been looking for someone to say that 😂 no one even cared they were throwing
@@oXahusTz word that shit was crazy lmao Poatan ate them shits too
And now he came to UFC too
@@oXahusTz they were joking u can see Glover smiling and still separating the guys under adrenaline after battle(rewatching now not sure if it was Glover, video is kinda blury)
As a brazilian, he really said he couldn't let him get close
his opponents probably wannanow, but Alex just couldn't.
In his first fight, he only had 2 years of training
@@32bit27he meant kickboxing not mma you fool.
@@32bit27he staking about the kickboxing fight genuis
god tier video bro plz do more fighters, and a way to make it better is when your showing photos from the fight pause it while the punch connects so we can see the effect more clearly, the weasel does this very well you should copy that
First video I’ve ever seen from him and instantly subscribed need more fighters
Thanks for the advice. I only gave myself a week to make this. The script was like 5 days and editing was 2 days. I'm learning as I go and yeah editing with images is hard bc copyright is so messed up lol. You will see it better in my next vids 💉💪
Flat out GOD TIER content
@@AbridgedMMAnah ur good asf bro that’s crazy
Completely agree. A legend like Pereira deserved a legendary video like this. Well done!
crazy well researched and well put together video
Fire vid, subbed. No bullshit, solid commentary, good editing.
I am only 6 minutes in,but I needed to take a moment to thank you for this video. It must have taken a long time to put together. Great work
jeez this is a good video, you just became my new favorite combat sports channel
One of the best Poatan vids I’ve seen. Great work!
Whenever I hear someone say that I suck, I'll just remember how bad Pereira seemed in his first few fights
if u fight like he fought in the first fights u should consider fighting amateur
@@TheJarlath9
I fight nowhere near as good as he did XD
If you suck, it just means you have a lot of room for growth 😼 and growth is fun.
@@dogestranding5047
Growth is is very fun. Nothing feels better
Artur Kyshenko is a kickboxing legend who fought Buakaw and Nieky Holzken on a lower weight categories. So Alex losing to him wasn't embarassing at all. A kickboxing fight I'd like to see back in the days was if Alex could fight Rico Verhoeven in HW...
why does no one mention he was roided and banned for years because of it
@@inyugen oh ofc he was thats why he fought in Kunlun. I suspect Albert Kraus was also on juice when he was fighting in China.
Why does everyone call Jon the goat despite his ped use?
@@ceedub3966 except not everyone does tho
Artem is a hugger. Anytime someone gets in close, he clinched them. The ref breaks it up then he swarms you, then if you try to get something going, he hugs you. Rinse and repeat.
Tactics. I guess you expect people who aren't as tough or powerful as Alex to just straight up bang with him? Yeah fuck that.
@@ceedub3966Fair enough
@@ceedub3966 Not blaming him. But the ref could damn sure do something about it 😂 Artem is just saving himself a headache later
That video was... so much better than anything ive seen in a GRIP of time! Fn outstanding brother 👏
0:11 it's like he was born with those tattoos 🤣 ok I'm sold immediately on this channel!
The Strickland part was COOOOOOLLLLDDD
Sick video format CHAMA!

Thanks so much for this!
please man keep making these kinds of videos, it rlly is a one of a kind thing
Would love to see more of these career breakdowns, maybe not complete careers tho cuz of the crazy records in kickboxing
16 minutes in and really enjoying this - you clearly spent a lot of time on this and did crazy good work - that sub count is wild for this kinda quality. Good luck, sir.
So we're just not gonna mention mustache only Pereira?
I love this vid bro you should do more of these💯🔥
Need more fighters covered in this format, great video keep up the good work

Phenomenal video
Much love bro, great video. 🗿
Super quality video
Thank you for the break down
Best mma content on CZcams
awesome video
You should do more of these type of videos theyre great!!!!!🎉
Alex's start in MMA was complicated mainly because of the organization he was in, Jugle Fight was literally a jungle, he said on Werdum's podcast that he had to fight twice in the night to earn $100 Reais (Brazilian currency)
this guy funny af. great video.
W video I subscribed
I like listening/reading what Pereira has to say.
He actually is a champion bloke, then champion fighter.
excelent video very fun to watch
great vid
Bahahaha the sean Strickland part all was needed to be said 😂
That's a great nice ass video. We love the way Alex is respect outside Brazil.
exactly my type of vid of my favorite fighter🤑
Cesar Almeida is now in UFC too.
Bro this is an amazing series
Love these pereira vids just so satisfying
Please do more vids like this bro
lovely typa video
Good job .
nice video
you should do more videos like this
as someone who's only known his brief but amazing mma careeer, cheers for putting this together.
This is awesome. Historical documentary.
Amazing video wow.
What song did you use in the glory win streak section?
takes dedication for this videos fr
46:53 into video and i didnt subscribe till you said the punch was an easter egg LMAOOAO i died
Did you update his latest fight ? he basically slightly touched Hill then Hill slept lol
Yousri is actually very talented and at UFC level, but his biggest problem is himself, he us such a stubborn fighter who for some reason doesn't listen to nobody and it shows, especially in MMA, he wins against great fighters but then loses to fighters who are not nearly at that level, he's currently training at Texeira with poatan and things seems alright but, i think he can do way better.
yh hes the LFL Champ which is a small fight org in Netherlands
holy smokes needs more views what a vid
What is the music playing at 6:40
Cesar Almeida just went to UFC and won his first fight for knockout actually, would love to see him more in the next UFC fights
Simon Marcus also got beef with Dave Leduc
You did adsanya vs pereira 2 a disservice by not showing pereira in trouble and on the verge of being stopped (standing count not shown also) before knocking izzy out. Apart from that, great video
This video is great, you could do a similiar one with justin gaethje i think he has a bunch of really great early fights that alot of fans dont know about in wsof
this video would be so much better if you didn't just show some pictures of the fights but the actual video of the knockouts...
Cesar Almeida is in the UFC now and showed up in one of Pereira's youtube videos recently... they seemed very friendly
10/10 video
I want this dope tribal ambience music playlist
Damn you really foreshadowed Alex's tendency to do knee into the opposite side hook into the izzy 3 where izzy knocks him out after he does it. I used to not believe izzy was playing possum and thought he just got lucky but you showing this through all of his fights shows this actually might have been calculated.
The knee to left hook is to make them move there guard it’s actually pretty good
30 year old pereira is 99 overall
If he have ground game he would be unstoppable.😂
Watching him level up is wild
Artem Levin and Artur Kyshenko were some of the greatest kickboxers of all time at 81kg and 72kg respectively and both had good boxing fundamentals (Eastern Euro style kickboxing is boxing heavy, same as Vakhitov who was also dominated by Levin) so Alex couldn't land that left hook. Unfortunately the 80kg kickboxing scene after 2016 wasn't great but Alex's shows against Simon Marcus cemented him as a great in kickboxing.
After the Levin fight, Levin complimented Pereira and said that he would be very good one day.
Daaymn, Pereira Left Hook needs to be Studied 😮
Alex is the boogie man just like Matias is in boxing 🥊 we gotta make them believers
Sou brasileiro e fico extremamente feliz pela qualidade no vídeo. CHAMA 🔥
