During his spell in charge, Saunders guided Villa to promotion, two League Cups and a league championship in 1980/81.

@@playuppompey2943 How is that disrespectful? A top man who probably didn't give Pompey much thought as he won league Cups, League titles and built a side that conquered Europe with Villa. Put your petty rivalries aside and accept he was liked and respected by all of football. Anyway, his true legacy was at Villa. End of. Disrespectful 🤔

Absolutely should have a stand named after him. Would have been proper for him to experience that during his lifetime instead of now when the guilt sets in and it's a knee jerk reaction to his death.

Back in the days where Managers were also given some time to build a squad. Saunders was a genius.
The ground will show exactly what Ron means to all of us Villa fans tomorrow. Applause, chanting, tears and pride. RIP Ron. A million thanks for those marvellous, incredible years you gave us. The best years of my Villa supporting life, every team played attractive, attacking football with dignity and finesse. No reliance on brutality and cheating, Ron's teams worked hard, played superbly and always with passion. His smile might have been rarer than a Birmingham City cup win but what a wonderful manager. RIP Ron and thanks.

It was rons team and system that won the European cup even tho he wasn't in charge when we lifted the trophy,it was all his hard work and great management skills that got us there.best villa manager and best villa team!

One privilege of being an 'old git' now. I watched that era from the age of 13 when he took over '74, and clearly remember the atmosphere at Villa park as we steam rolled most teams that turned up. Happy days as a youngster watching what turned out to be legendary players: Aitken, Graydon, Little, Nichol, Gray, Mortimer, Shaw, Withe, Morley - to name but a few. UTV!
