For those saying the skater is crying; it's actually an involuntary response to a hard trauma on the brain. It basically reboots itself or freezes for a moment to try and evaluate what has happened, but it means our motor function and ability to speak are hindered. There was a case similar that happened on a season of The Ultimate Fighter where one guy takes a heavy, HEAVY blow to the head and just moans and whines on the ground for over a minute.

Surprisingly pretty common in skateboard culture. The crew will stay seated until they see blood then they start moving and maybe two people will ask if you are okay.

A helmet saved my life as a kid. I was riding my bike. I hit a rock and went flying. Landed on my face. I hit so hard that my helmet cracked. The crack started at my forehead and went all the way to the top. I am grateful for that helmet and will always wear them.
As a doctor you should know the damage is caused by the brain hitting the skull not the ground. They’ve basically given up on making a helmet that can stop concussions because it’s impossible
@@OnyxHuber1187 skull fractures allow room for the brain to swell without being squished and causing brain damage. Doctors actually crack skulls themselves when helmets prevent it but usually it’s too late by then.

I've got a skateboard and I've just been practicing the basics and cruising around getting comfortable on my board, but in the next few weeks, once I've got the money I'm gonna buy a good quality helmet (S1 lifer). There's no chance I'm attempting any sort of tricks without one, this type of thing can even happen doing simple tricks! Not risking my brain just to look cool
I’m not a skater by any means but I knew a backpacker that had a board and when she left the country she gave it to me. It was expensive (around $200) so I decided I might as well put it to some use. I skated on the flat surface which was make for skating and I didn’t at all think I’d be hurt. Anyways while I was just getting used to the board I finally decided to put both my feet onto the board and somehow lost balance and fell. I fell hard on the ground and landed on my hip. It was quite painful and I think it will bruise badly but I know a lady that landed on her bottom and broke her tailbone so she’s unable to sit down comfortably and the surgery has chances of paralysis so she is not going through with it. It gave me a harsh reality check today and I’m glad I didn’t break a bone or anything but it’s safe to say I’ll be staying away from that board from now on. Stay safe everyone

What's even sadder is you're more likely to get over a concussion but a traumatic brain injury can have you be a completely different person like those boxers who can't walk or function by themselves anymore
My dad’s buddy was on a three wheeler, wasn’t going very fast, hit some sort of pot hole or something, fell over and hit his head on a rock, (wasn’t wearing a helmet) and now he can still tell you that 2+2=4 but it takes him 30 seconds to get out the answer, this is great advice, please wear a helmet and knee/elbow pads when you are riding something even as simple as a skateboard.

I ride BMX. My wife really wanted me to wear a helmet when we first got together. I ended up buying one, and the same day of wearing it, I eat shit on a handrail and smack my forehead hard AF on concrete floor. Luckily I was wearing the helmet and protected me, and essentially didn’t feel a thing. My wife was there, and we were both in shock at how lucky I got wearing the helmet. Seems like the type to jump from skating the local skateparks 6 stair rail then he or someone got it in his head to take a trick down hollywood 16 before he was ready let alone prepared for that type of slam when you skate rails for a long time you learn how to bail out of a bad situation before it occurs I've had situations going up to a rail totally confident in myself and ive still hit my axel on the way up and still got into the trick and landed it but i did hear the metal "ting" sound as i got into frontside board slide i didnt let it bother me much but i stopped to adjust and go through the motions over & over before i got back on that rail

Seems like the type to jump from skating the local skateparks 6 stair rail then he or someone got it in his head to take a trick down hollywood 16 before he was ready let alone prepared for that type of slam when you skate rails for a long time you learn how to bail out of a bad situation before it occurs
I've had situations going up to a rail totally confident in myself and ive still hit my axel on the way up and still got into the trick and landed it but i did hear the metal "ting" sound as i got into frontside board slide i didnt let it bother me much but i stopped to adjust and go through the motions over & over before i got back on that rail
this is why i don't do tricks on scooter,skateboard,and bike.
