Stafford had Megatron with a horrible oline and a horrible run game. Goff has a stacked team most importantly he has protection and the best oline in the league.
Its true, I love Goff, but there's no argument Stafford is better, the slappies just dont like hearing it. But it doesn't matter cuz they're winning now and we needed to make the trade to make the rebuild work
Matt Stafford never had the complete offence that we currently has. You could gameplan Calvin away without a solid run game. When he did have a decent run game we won 11 games and got screwed out of a playoff game. In fact if our coach went for it in the fourth quarter at midfield for a yard we wouldn't be having this conversation
By the time the contract hits about 4-5 more qbs get a bigger payday and the cap would jump about 30~m so it’ll be about the same percentage of cap as this year
That's what you normally do Maz with a 3rd round shaky knees qb that you trade back for twice.
It's fine. He's done his job well and we don't want to risk a change that may or may not work.

Missing is the concept that it's easier to restructure contracts than it is to spend empty cap space. Good teams don't let their best players leave to hit free agency. What they do is put their guys that have injuries or they know the tank is nearly empty.
Look at who the Lions let go in the last two years. DJ Chark and Reynolds, that's what hits the market way more often than not.

In 4 years, this money won't be that costly as the cap soars. So if Goff is hurt or they want a cheaper deal with Hooker... they will have an easier time to trade. If they want to... they may want to keep him and trade Hooker. We'll have capital either way

There are 10 QB's who would've won the Superbowl last year with this exact same offense. I've never seen a QB with the weapons and organization that Goff has had on his last two teams that can't win a Superbowl even though he has stayed healthy for basically every single game. It is mindboggling that people are acting like Goff is the reason that the Lions are this good. You literally could've inserted 10 QB's and they would've won the Superbowl last year and produced a better regular season.
