Weather Heatwave For Ireland, 1995

  • Warm weather in Ireland sees thousands enjoy the beaches but means farmers must be careful.
Thousands took to the beach as forecasters predicted the hot weather would last the bank holiday weekend. Temperatures were averaging 26 to 29 degrees and sun-worshippers just could not get enough.
The view at Portmarnock was like a scene from a foreign holiday brochure.
The heatwave was however causing drought problems for potato farmers, who had to water their crops. According to farmer John Sheridan, this was an unexpected expense. There was also a fall in demand for potatoes. Minister of State Eithne Fitzgerald called for vigilance, as there had already been 16 accidental deaths on farms that year.
An RTÉ News report broadcast on 3 August 1995. The reporter is Joe O’Brien. This report is introduced by Mary Kennedy.

Great memories of that summer. Every day at the beach. Perpetual smell of suncream and barbequed food. Watching 'Shawshank Redemption' for the first time when it was released on video. And the pop music was deadly, e.g. 'Girl Like You' by Edwin Collins, 'Common People' by Pulp, 'Alright' by Supergrass, 'Waterfalls' by TLC, the whole Blur/Oasis thing. Golden days.

@@marynadononeill Yeah i seen it. Sure when I was in school Al gore was shitting about icebergs been melted by 2020 and polar bears going extinct. The opposite happened. Icebergs became larger, but some did crack into the sea i suppose. Then it hit me a career politician like Al gore is saying this as he flies around the world in private jets. I should have known better.

@@TheSpaceman332211 I also went all in for the climate hoax. I really studied it. Followed a video blog by a Canadian scientist and learned a lot about the jet stream, the climate and the weather. It was actually interesting. Then I learned from others that CO2 is already saturated in our atmosphere so all this anti CO2 and wrecking our lives based on "carbon" , which is an euphemism for carbon dioxide, is pure and utter bollocks. Then I learned about the corruption of the scientists and yes the 'green' politicians and I was done. What they are trying to pull off in Ireland is nothing less than destruction of the culture.

@@marynadononeill 100%. When they stop letting rich ppl, elites and politicians owning renting/private jets, live in mansions, make them start eating rubber mince and force them to use public transport thats when I'll care about climate change. These fuckers fly to the supermarket. Apparently the sea is rising the last 70 years yet there's lots of new apartment builds been bulit on seafronts & marinas up and down the country. Yet banks/insurance companies have no problem taking the risk. I agree i think it's bollocks to make ppl poor & take away more freedom. klaus schwab said recently at davos he doesn't want ppl owning cars or farmers in control of the food supply.

Nobody has said that we have never had a heatwave before ? They are just happening far more frequently, they used to happen once every five or so years and now are happening a few times a year and becoming hotter. We literally broke the record for the highest temperature ever seen in ireland this year and are expected to break that record again next year.
