i feel like such a cliche Tool fan sitting here with a shit eating grin watching them experience Tool for the first time
Funny how there wasn't such a thing as a cliché tool fan back in the early nineties.
Totally agree. I was surprised they hadn't listened to Tool before. Such an amazingly complex band with beautiful and charging songs. I bet they are hooked on Tool like the rest of us.
Vicariously I listen for the first time... From a distance
it really is a wonderful feeling. Thank you guys for bringing joy to the year.
You're not alone. 😁 I try to watch many reactions and discover amazing channels like this one. First time watching
"is he an octopus on acid!?" Yeah, That's Danny Carey basically
There are guys who are more virtuosic with the double-bass (George Kolias (Nile)) as well as with polyrhythms (Horacio Hernandez) but Danny blends technicality and soul into a musadelic concoction...!
was about to comment this hahahaha. literally the best comment ive heard about tool
One of the greatest drummer vids on youtube period is Danny Carey Drum Cam Pneuma.
The most accurate description of Danny Carey
You're not wrong. Lol
This is by far my favorite Radiohead album.
What ?
🤣😂🤣😂
I will eliminate your last name from existence
I think I love you
Did you see the words though?
"That's gotta be drop D" Welcome to TOOL
Lol
Just want to apologize to any TOOL fans that feel that I missed out important parts of the album while editing, but like I said this was my first listen as well, so unlike the Radiohead albums I had no way of pinpointing what parts to keep in the video. Next TOOL album we do I will post the entire reaction unedited, even if it kills my computer LOL.
Going to post another version of this video as unlisted for anyone that wants to check it out without any cuts or edits.
I was about to leave a comment about this. I really tried to get through the video, and was trying to ignore all the jumps but had to give up after Schism. You included most of the calm interlude but skipped the entire climax of song!?
I want to stress that I liked the commentary, but the seemingly random jumps were too much. To be fair, maybe it's just not for me, but I am trying to be helpful!
I guess I don't understand why you _had_ to, "pinpoint what parts to keep in the video." I'd rather see the entire listen split into several videos than this.
Maybe this is why other reactors pause once every 30 seconds; so they don't have to edit parts out? Idk.
Why not just upload the whole thing unedited? This is kinda unwatchable, I had to stop in the first song
You guys should take mushrooms for the next tool album reaction
@@serclintalot4497 yeah I'm thinking for future TOOL videos we will just do individual tracks and release the videos one by one. People seemed to like the editing on our Radiohead videos because I've been a fan for years, so I knew where all the best parts of the songs were.
Pay to watch y’all’s reaction to TOOL? Wow, That’s the first.
Lol who do you guys think you are? Unsubscribed👎👎
I went to see Tool live last year with my dad. He was a big metalhead when he was a kid but kind of fell apart from it as he grew up, and he'd never heard Tool before. He still talks about how it was not only the best live show he's ever seen, but a life changing experience for him.
Nice story man. I wish I could take my dad to a Tool concert. I've never seen one because I live in Sweden and they almost never play here, but that's my nr. 1 band on my bucket list to see live.
I took my 62 year old dad to a Tool concert in 2019. He had a blast
🖤🖤🖤🖤
I was fortunate enough to go to see Tool in 2019 for the first time with my dad, my brother and then girlfriend...
Best live show I've seen/experienced so far (even better than Rush and Metallica, of course this is subjective).
Peace from Mexico 🤟🏿
He took the ticket to ride
There’s 47 different time signature changes in the song “Schism” alone. Yeah, this band is nuts. Great reaction guys! I hope you do Ænima at some point if you ever get around to it!
Wow! I’m just replaying the whole album now and I’m more blown away than the first listen :)
Well, its mostly switching between two different time signatures, so its not the most outlandish
@@kevinfromttt 10,000 Days is worth multiple listens, as well.
There's like Maybe 5 it mostly switches between 2
Actually according to music historians across the globe, there’s 142 time signatures in the first 3:54 of the song alone.
"Is he an octopus on acid?" - classic!!
Band: TOOL
Drums: Danny Carey
Bass: Justin Chancellor
Guitar: Adam Jones
Vocals: Maynard James Keenan
The first time I heard the transition of Parabol into Parabola I felt like I ascended to heaven
same here, man. it was absurd.
"Julian Casablancas and Jordan Peterson react..."
Oh God, now I'm kinda curious to see their real reactions...
"That part before the drums come in, well that's chaos, man. That's the belly of the whale. It's no joke."
@@dripcaraybbx I’ll never be able to speak about Danny without mentioning this now XDD
@@jay3398 You're welcome!
My though was "Jordan Peterson and Ville Valo reacts..." :D
Jordan would tell Julian to clean his room
Actually i have horrible relationship with my father and see them have such a great relationship together makes me look forward to have this kind of relationship with my 5 1/2 year old son too. It made me cry seeing something i never had or ever will have with my dad. I hope you know how lucky you are. Thank you for this.
"Lateralus" is one of the greatest pieces of work ever released by a band. In my humble opinion, the best Album ever written. Nice reaction, gentlemen.
Hey Connor. I have been listening to it since our first listen and I have to say it does get better and better. I'm really starting to feel the time signatures and I keep hearing new things I missed on the first go round. :)
Agreed! I first heard Tool in 2001 when Schism was on the radio. Within a couple months, they became my favourite band of all time. They remain so. THE. GREATEST. BAND. ON. EARTH. period.
I agree 100%
You are way over your head. Aenima is better with every aspect. But, taste is subjective, so...
u need listen more music
"When I learned to let go of the time signature, I experienced ego death" is something I convinced myself 20 years ago while staring into the album art.
"Godspeed you black emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven" is gonna be an intresting experience for both of you, hope you listen to it !
I was just scrolling through to see if anyone had requested this on yet. Was the first album that came to mind after I found these guys last week
Hell yeah!
Yes please !!!
East Hastings is my fav from them love the eeriness they capture
Montréal's own! I agree with this suggestion!
Internet at it again, sweet.
Tool's maybe an acquired taste but Lateralus really is a modern classic.
Keep it going boys!
Radiohead to Tool is a perfect progression
I was raised on Tool. It was my favorite band for so many years. Radiohead very narrowly stole it's place, they're both in the absolute top tier in my book.
the two "simple enough so any idiot can get it but deep enough so those idiots think they're really smart for getting it" bands!
full disclosure i love both
@@resiseven7407 We're all tools
@@Lewisl4d2 that's why the band is called that. so anyone wearing tool merchandise brands themselves as what they are
My 2 Favorite Bands, over 40 shows between the 2. Will see them till the day I die.
As a 30 year fan of the band, amazing job. It's almost hard to believe how well you did this as alot of tracks are combined.
Tool are a mix of King Crimson, Floyd and Zeppelin, with an emphasis on the Crimson.
As a 41 year old man, Tool and Radiohead have been my favorites hands down my enitre life. They somehow survived the money, fame and drugs and are still playing, it's quite the blessing for fans.
If they tour in 2022 go see them, they are approaching their 60's so there won't be many opportunities left. I've seen them 20 times, each time more spectacular.
Id love to see you guys do Aenima, Fear Inoculum, and 10000 Days in the Future
All the best on your channel.
Love this comment. My father and I need to see both Radiohead and Tool live at some point, even if we have to travel to see them. Thanks for checking out the video and all the best to you to!
dude i JUST saw them a couple days ago in MI for the first time ever and im so glad i did before they stopped touring, the best show i have ever seen
Interesting fact for you, the song Lateralus is based on the Fibonacci sequence. You can find videos about it. You should do Tool's "10,000 Days" album as well.
This wasn't created on purpose...Maynard told about this on Joe Rogan's podcast actually.
@@gokcengolge2366pretty sure he was being sarcastic lol, the whole 9 minutes of the song go up and down through the fibonnaci sequence (counting the syllables), there's no way on earth this was an accident especially when the album mentions maths a lot in general
@@liluminati9791Watch the podcast.
@@liluminati9791yea i think he said the first riff was an accident and then they realized it was the fibonacci sequence and then made the rest of the song like that
The Cure - Disintegration
Unbelievable album if you’s haven’t listened already
This reaction would be amazing to see, such a mindblowing album.
One of my favorite albums of all time, such a classic and groundbreaking project!
Perfect album for sure.
#1 Disintegration #2 Lateralus
My 3 favorite bands are tool, nine inch nails and the cure. Yes I'm in therapy

Loving the Canadian accents, as a Canadian myself hahah. Keep up the good work guys 👍
Thanks for stopping by man! Love the concept of your channel. Maybe my father and I will start reacting to weird and obscure albums LOL
@@turningthetables Oh dude.. I'd 100% watch that

As a Canadian I didn't even notice. They sounded normal to me :P
Much Canadian, eh?
Schism is a wicked tune. Alternates between 5/8 and 7/8 time signatures for the majority of the song! It’s a crazy song and I recommend cover solutions bass cover. It has tabs, but it includes rhythm and harmony notation. Love your reactions!
Swans "To be kind" or "The glowing man" or "Soundtracks for the blind"
Now that would be interesting. I wonder if they have that much time for this show on their schedule, though. 😛

Suggestion: 'Massive Attack - Mezzanine' and 'The Verve - Urban Hymns'. Both 90s British classics. Edit better add 'The Stone Roses' by 'The Stone Roses'. Being from the US you probably don't understand just how massive and important this was in the UK. This was our (UK) version of the Summer of Love.
Seconding Mezzanine, great album
Seconding Mezzanine too
Mezzanine is such a great album. It's my go to album for bass testing headphones and subwoofers.
Was literally about to suggest Mezzanine! I would loove to see a reaction to that.
With you on Mezzanine; not with you on Urban Hymns. A Storm in Heaven is Verve's best album.
Cool to set you both react to it going in blind. Maybe the best metal album ever made.
Oof, looks like you meant to say best album ever made. 👽
Yesss it's what I asked for last video I had notifications on! Love the MF DOOM poster! Watching the video rn
That dad joke/zinger/self deprecating sense of humor your dad has is awesome. Had my husband and I dying woo it got awkward/personal 😂😂

@@kevinfromttt if you’ve become a big TOOL fan you should react to the Vic Firth video of Danny Carey drumming Pneuma its absolutely insane!
love how you have two perfect indie-folk albums on display

undertow-aeniga- cant be beat still champ
Que the thousands of people requesting the Danny Carey pneuma drum cam video.
I am really looking forward to see this channel grow! You guys have a great chemistry and the albums thus far have been impeccable. The production quality is great and you guys have such a good approach to it, calm and composed.
Thank you very much! We have lots of future plans beyond just album reactions, and we're hoping to keep improving the production every time! Comments like this mean a lot and we really appreciate it! :)
Danny Carey is arguably the greatest drummer ever. Watching him live play pneuma is absolutely bonkers, I'm a drummer myself and there is no way I could ever get to the unreal amounts of changes that he has to go through in one song. The creativity and elite level of play throughout the entire band blows me away
Ride the spiral to the end and may just go where's no one has been.
Spiral Out X3
One of my favorite parts in any tool song. I def missed the reaction on it.
Deftones - White Pony, would absolutely love to see you guys react to that. So happy to discover this channel. Great videos guys
I'd even suggest Diamond Eyes and their self titled . It's crazy enjoyable watching others enjoy and vibe to our fav albums. That's fellas
I'm a Koi No Yokan kinda guy
Fun story about Ticks & Leeches Maynard (the singer) refuses to ever play that song again because he lost his voice recording it and apparently couldn't speak for weeks.
I saw them play Ticks and Leeches live in Irvine, Ca. He didn’t scream, but used a vocal effect throughout.
They played it in 2012
I look at the album artwork behind you guys and am very excited for the future. Keep up the great stuff!
This album will really grow on you with multiple listens... so many time signature changes are a lot to digest on first listen... it will sink into your blood eventually and age like fine wine.
Hey Josh. You are correct.. I am listening to the album in it’s entirety again right now and it really is growing on me. There is so many amazing parts I didn’t hear on the first listen.
In our reaction I was saying it made me wanna work out as it pumped me up, but today I’m painting the garage and find it super chill.
I think the structure or timing really grows on you. Now I think I’m officially stuck on this band :). Cheers Kevin
Damn he really does sound like Jordan Peterson
Haha I’ve been thinking that since I saw the AMSP review. It’s almost exactly the same voice
LMAO
Yup, I've thought this since the OKC reaction. Not only that, some of his mannerisms, speech patterns, and even his appearance (in a very general way), totally give me a Jordan Peterson vibe.
I wanna know what you guys would think of the Nine Inch Nails album “The Fragile.” Best double album of all time.
That would be cool. It’s a long one, though. Also, why does this channel have such good album recs in the comments? I never see commenters ask for this kind of stuff on other album review channels.
@@j.prt.979 yeah I also have been scrolling through and keep thinking "my god these are all albums I want to go listen to now"
Freaking incredible record indeed!

Excellent album choice for a reaction. I can't believe Lateralus is 20 years old.
You all should do/look into:
Mars Volta, "De-Loused in the Comatorium"
Karnivool, "Sound Awake"
I wish I could have the experience to listen to Schism for the first time again. When I heard it for the first time I was 13 and it was coming over alternative radio back in 2001. Y'all are lucky to have eachother and to have this experience now with your understanding of music and instrumentation.

I love the way your dad describes musical texture. "You feel how thick that bottom end is." That's such a perfect way to describe that section of Schism. I felt that. Also, your father's reaction to Yeezus was tremendous. These videos are so cool guys, keep it up please!

@@turningthetables off the top of my head....The Mars Volta - Deloused in the comatorium. One of a kind band.👍
100% agree with that
Please do some more TOOL! I think you guys have the exact mindset needed to appreciate the IMMENSE sound that these guys create. For future reference, the band members are Maynard James Keenan on vocals, Adam Jones on Guitar, Justin Chancellor on Bass, and the LEGEND Danny Carey on Drums. Their next album, which was released 2006, 10,000 Days would be an incredible listen-through. Great analysis and breakdown as always guys! Really dug the Radiohead stuff you did and excited for more content.

the song lateralus is one of the truest works of art in any musical genre in my opinion. it is a lyrical and musical masterpiece. the songs time signature, the guitar, and the vocals all follow the fibonacci sequence. its like a 3 layer puzzle of a song.

Heads up on your tool journey. These guys put a lot of effort into the messages and themes in their albums. Almost all of them seamlessly fit or coexist together, constructing a beautiful narrative of whatever you interpret it. You guys jumped in the deep end (probably their most regarded piece) but their other works are just as endearing and unique to the ear.
This show works on so many levels. Not only do we see the father/son relationship that I, and many others wish we had, but...I have never listened to Tool either, and when you put the music in this context, you throw preference and expectation out the window and simply listen to what sounds good, what gives the music its value. This series of album reactions you and your father have created is pure music discovery, analysis, and appreciation. And now I enjoy listening to music, that which is both new and familiar with a new set of ears. Thanks guys
I just found you guys because I'm a huge tool fan since I was 16 (I'm 40 now). I love how you two interact with each other and are very entertaining. Because of that I've watched everything you put out so far. Keep up the good work!
This is probably the greatest album of all time, period. Seems like no one talks about how great and what the albums means to be so great. Every time listen to it I just start getting emotional but in a good way, just how beautiful the sound and the production is just impeccable. It’s almost to the point when it’s not a record, it’s more of a message.

You guys should do The Mars Volta, particularly the first three albums. Love watching y’all experiencing some of my favorite albums for the first time.
I don't know why everyone ignores Octahedron and Noctourniquet. Those are their best albums imo. Yes their earlier ones have some good songs but the production value and overall flow of the albums improved with time. Not to mention Deantoni Parks' drumming on Noctourniquet which is insane. Both The guitarist Adam Jones and Bassist Justin Chancellor are in a dropped D tuning. Actually the first album from Journey prior to Steve Perry joining is a fantastic record. Neal Schon and Greg Rolie were fresh out of Carlos Santana's band. Greg is the singer who sang Black Magic Woman and he played Keyboards. Aynsley Dunbar kills it on the Drums. The song Of a Lifetime has an epic guitar solo and is the highlight of the album
