    My lady wants to order me one of those sanding machines. She never seems very interested in my knife making tools but she’s very interested in this one for some reason 🤔. Great video.

    Awesome job on that grinding you make it look a hell of a lot easier than it is. I just purchased a tr maker sanding block it should work great when I get my machine

    Just adding my 2 cents. If you're new to knife making- get good at grinding
    Its literally what makes a piece of metal work as a knife, the geometries are everything that is the final products worth because it didn't really matter if you made it out of a railroad tie or a piece of high alloy tool steel. If it isn't going to cut well then you've simply made something ornamental and this is what you have to understand in order to make all that effort come down to that thickness behind the edge. There isn't much point in complaining about it, its precise hand-eye coordination, its not pretty, there's no glamour or fire or someone to award you a prize, just filthy and sometimes dangerous hard work that has to be done as best you can.
    Use very bright lighting, wear your respirator and some eye protection.
    Pay attention, if you get tired, stop and have a break before you break something else or yourself!

      I totally agree. The ability to grind a bevel is the most key skill every knifemaker has to learn. Thanks for watching, Kris.

    I saw that you made three Japanese blades there are two katanas there is a Wakizashi but there are other types of Japanese blade such as the Tanto. the Kogarasu-Maru. The Nodachi. The Ninjato. The Shikomizue. The Tachi. The Tsurugi (sword) or ken. the Chokutō and the Shirasaya and if you can try to forge your new Japanese blades in your site and you can make them a little more FANTASY like for example guys with dragon heads or other animals et cetera et cetera et cetera et cetera et cetera finally there is an infinite possibility

      I’m really not that into Japanese weapons so making obscure ones doesn’t interest me. Thanks for watching.

    Any chance of an upcoming mokume game san mai knife build? Fits your theme of doing different builds all the time and challenging yourself or are you more focused on the viking challenge build right now? Gotta say, I can't wait to see all the awesome builds that are going to happen with it. Seax, viking swords, axes and spears? All awesome things I want to see built tho I do love your feather spear from a while back a lot

      I’ve made mokume gane before and put it into fittings already, just never as part of the blade. Maybe some day. Right now I’m busy on my Viking challenge build so stay tuned!

    But Denis, your new machine, lovely though it is, eliminates the Zen embodied in sanding the traditional way!

    Can it really be called hand sanded when a machine is used?

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  Před měsícem +1

      Is ANYONE really concerned that something was sanded purely by hand or with the aid of a machine? 🙄 We call a knife hand made even though we use a grinder to put in the bevels, should be we using files? Don't be so literal, Brian. 😉
