  • We fell for Bacalar. Hard. Even though we’ve just started these 99 days in Mexico, Bacalar may be our favourite spot already. With amazing blue waters, a laid-back feel and delicious foods, we were just about ready to start looking for a place to live.

    My husband and I just got back from Tulum, Bacalar and Holbox a week ago (10/19-10/26/18) and it was the best vacation we have ever had so far! He watched your videos at least a hundred times before we left...lol! We took a catamaran around the lagoon with the same company you did which I highly recommend. The water in Bacalar is UNREAL!! It’s like a computer screen saver but it’s real. Tulum was lovely as well but it still had a bit of the seaweed issue so we only stayed there 2 days in the city part. We really loved Holbox as well but the local people everywhere we went made this trip even more special. We almost ran out of gas on the way from Tulum to Bacalar and these awesome guys saved us with some gas. We were really taken care of the entire time even with the minimal Spanish that we knew. We walked around at night and felt totally safe in all three locations. The food was also phenomenal. Thank you for sharing your journey bc it helped us plan a wonderful vacation and discover a new place on this earth to love💕💕💕

      Did you guys lke bacalar or holbox better?

    • @red_edj
      @red_edj Před 3 lety

      @@amvespinosa Holbox for sure. If you are looking for a low key, relaxing vaca both are nice. But we liked Holbox better (especially my husband) b/c it's a very unique small island and you can literally walk around barefoot. The lagoon of Bacalar is one of a kind. The water is so beautiful and clear and it feels like a slightly warm bath. We actually went back to Holbox and Tulum for a week at the end of Sept 2020. One important thing to consider with Holbox is the time and transport to get there. It's a 2.5 hrs ride from Cancun Airport and another 30 min ferry to the island. I would recommend you plan at least 3 days there if you plan to go and book your transportation well in advance to avoid paying really high taxi/shuttle fees bc it's quite expensive.

    Great vid u guys. WOW .. I've been to Quintana Roo so often .. the entire Yucatan Peninsula .. and have not been to Bacalar. Now after having seen many vids from travelers to Bacalar .. I will have to make the effort on my next visit to the Yucatan. I'm already addicted to Mexico, it's culture, and food .. and try to go there as many times as my budget allows. Born in the Netherlands, childhood in West Africa .. now living in Canada .. I am still a tropical boy at heart. "You can take the boy out of the tropics .. but you cannot take the tropics out of the boy" .. LOL Montreal winters are just too cold for me. Viva Mexico !!

    Beautiful videos guys! A question for you... Holbox or Bacalar? I'm planning a solo trip next January/February to do a lot of nothing! I love seeing wildlife, living on cheap tacos and amazing street food, finding good coffee/lattes, and I'll need some wifi. Not really into nightlife or partying; I love peace and quiet. Any thoughts or suggestion for one of these places over the other?

    • @sarahcosca

      Bacalar is so beautiful. I will say there are some shops, a few restaurants, and not that much else going on. If you are looking for relaxing vibes, this is the place to come. The lake is so amazing. If you are looking for somewhere cheap, safe and clean to stay book The Yak House Hostel on Hostelworld. The wifi worked great there and it was VERY peaceful. They had sunrise and sunset paddle boaring & boat tours. I went in January and the weather was gorgeous! I highly recommend Bacalar.

    Hey guys, we are looking for the slow pace for one month living with a child. I was thinking about Bacalar, we would like to meet some locals, kids and buy some food on the local markets? Do you think that place should be for family? We have a small child 3 years old therefore we don't need any loud places , or big tourist places. We are thinking about Chetumal or Bacalar. We have been in Mexico, but not in these places .What is your suggestion?

    • @FeatherandtheWind
      @FeatherandtheWind  Před 5 lety

      Hey Viktoria, we really enjoyed Bacalar and I think it would be a good place for the slow pace that you mentioned. I don't know about many activities for young kids specifically but it's quiet, the locals are friendly and the vibe is relaxing. What time of the year are you thinking? During high season, it may be hard to find a month rental for cheap online but maybe phone calls or asking around while you're there will likely get you a better deal. Bacalar is close to Chetumal so you could do a day trip to the city for other activities (or for visits to Walmart, etc). We also have a Chetumal video on this channel in case that helps with your decision but I personally enjoyed Bacalar more and we only got to see a portion of the lagoon while we were there. Hope that helps!

      There are some small fish in the lagoon but not much else since it's freshwater and pretty shallow for the most part. We experienced more mosquitos here than in other parts of the coast but a small price to pay for the beauty! And definitely birds. Lots and lots of unique birds around the lagoon.
