I buy mostly PS4 games that aren't true high powered AAA titles for this reason- I still have my PS4 Pro with 350 plus games on both HDs along w PS5 disc. Like the best of both worlds- but sometimes, like Joe and Mac disc today, you don't see the ps5 download prompt...where as Key We for example, had both on bar on top of PS5 as soon as I inserted the disc. Good video, this stuff is kinda confusing when you first get into it, and not self-evident at all!

For some reason I got the PS5 version of Skywalker saga with the PS4 disc inserted, but the PS5 version doesn’t have the same data as my PS4 version. So I would have to start over on the PS5 edition.
I know this is a bit late but you can go into system then data transfer and transfer the saved data of skywalker

You can't do save transfer for Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga I believe. However your DLCs are saved.

Do you need to do this if you have the PS4 game on an external hard drive and connect it to the PS5? I just started playing without the free PS5 upgrade. Seems to be fine.

Do you need to have your ps4 or ps5 connection to the Internet? I have assassin's creed Valhalla ( and other games) on the ps4 and it can be converted to the ps5. But I don't have Internet to either

all you have to do is upgrade to the PS5 version of the game like the video shows . you only get intergrade if you have a disc copy of ff7 on the PS4 - otherwise you have to buy it again on PS5 .

Does this mean you are saving both full games on your ps5? For example you have COD the ps4 and ps5 versions both installed? Also can i delete the ps4 versions because who is gonna use that.

oh so you have to download the basic ps4 version and THEN u get the upgrade? because I'm downloading destiny 2 and it gave me all the files that you'd usually get on ps4. I picked the one that says ps5/ps4 but in my notification it says I'm downloading ps4 version. a friend of mine told me he got the upgraded version when he downloaded the ps4 version first.

So I just got a ps5 and bought resident evil 2 for ps4. I upgraded it to PS5 but and now it shows both ps4 and ps5 versions on my game list. It also used up my gigabits for both versions. I deleted the ps4 one but every time I put the disc in both Icons come up agin and it also takes up gigabits.

I was wondering the same here. I started playing subnautica on ps4 and now i can't load my old world on the ps5 version. I can't just transfer save files because they're like 2 different games. I also have ps plus and that doesn't help.

I think u can only transfer over the date when it comes in a cross gen bundle but if u just buy standalone version of ps5 then it won’t transfer your date. I’m not completely sure buts it’s what I’ve noticed

But all the trophies will not update on the ps5 version right? Cuz when i updated skyrim to ps5 version the progress said 0% and no trophies even after i transferred the data over it loaded me to my save but no trophies amd still say zero progress
